For a place with so many awards me and girlfriend were looking forward to our visit for Sunday lunch on 5.11.2017 and what a let down it was very disappointed had beef and pork was 1 slice of pork and beef sliced thin and veg nothing special decor very dated in need of reverb I've no idea what these food critic's looking for and was very over priced def will not return I'm sorry but honest
Small menu ( 5 mains available but changed frequently ) plus starters and desserts. We had the shoulder of lamb with roast potatoes and veg. Very tasty but one portion had a lot of fat. Nice for a change but won't be a regular haunt.
I go here with my family for Sunday dinner whenever I come to visit the North East. A real gem! The food is always amazing and the staff are always extremely friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended if you have the chance to go. It is very popular, however, so I recommend booking ahead if you are a large group or are going around a busy time.
Great service & tasty beer. Didn't try the food but it sounded delicious as they were having a Wagu weekend!
Went for lunch on our wedding anniversay, friendly atmosphere and warm welcome. Limited menu, had steak, small portion but tasty, pepper sauce was thin and all pepper corns were sunk to the bottom of the jug, first choice pudding not available but sticky toffee
As others have said it's very nice but expensive for what you get.Menu didn't have that much on it. You just want more for the money. The meal was over quickly. But it was all very, very nice. Good handpulls so no complaint there.
Great beer, nice atmosphere and good service. Couldn't ask for more.
This is hands down my favourite pub/food in the North East. Modernised traditional dishes cooked to perfection. Generous portions, home baked desserts and modest but delicious wine selection. Staff are down to earth and have good chat. You will not be disappointed by anything on the menu here!
Amazing food, amazing service, super friendly and possibly my favourite place to eat in the UK.
Me & a mate had our first visit here for dinner. Nice old fashioned pub situated high on a hill overlooking the Tyne Valley. A comprehensive menu full of local produce & locally foraged goodies. For starters I had the lobster bisque. Pretty More
Great food & great service. I thoroughly recommend and look forward to going again.
Imaginative food; reliably superlative, our favourite gastro pub ever.
Just perfect! The service was so welcoming and warm. The menu selection fantastic and inventive plus all locally sourced. The ambience so cosy, homely and traditional. The great reviews are truly justified. Will be back!
Absolutely fantastic, great food, great drink and a fantastic atmosphere.
Warm, friendly atmosphere, excellent service from helpful staff and exceptional locally-sourced food make this an outstanding pub restaurant.
Lovely pub. Excellent Sunday lunch and a good drinks menu. Better still, all produce locally sourced and produced.
The service and food were excellent. It's not a traditional British pub. It's a great restaurant. Booking is essential.

Superb little pub with fantastic food and great real ales. The staff make you feel so welcome as do the locals. After only 3 days we were honorary locals. Don't pass by here without paying a visit.
Loved it and will be back, menu choice is so good
Unique and different for Sunday lunchtimes.
Exceptionally good local food in a nice country pub. Look out for special nights were they do interesting food and drink. They have two dishes which are a must eat, the black pudding and the burnt cream! Staff are always helpful and knowledgeable about the food.
Booked for a party of 7 on a Saturday afternoon. Food was fantastic all round. Decent selection of local beer. Staff were friendly and attentive.
Food was excellent, staff very friendly, cosy little pub.
