Really enjoyed the Family Folk Machine concert held at the Englert. Such a beautiful venue!
Really enjoyed the Family Folk Machine concert held at the Englert. Such a beautiful venue!
The Englert brings in a lot of different shows and guest, from music to comedy, plays and ballet. It's great having this right downtown.
Beautiful theater, stage is easily visible. I am however, 5'5" tall and my knees were literally pressed into the back of the seat in front of me. Not all seating rows were this close, so you may want to choose your seats accordingly.
The Englert is a lovely downtown Iowa City staple that provides wonderful live entertainment for the community.
Wonderful, historic theatre with a dedicated volunteer staff and excellent concessions. The calendar is full of incredible talent. Happy to support this organization.
Nick Lowe and the Los Straitjackets as backup was fun. I took my wife for her birthday and she had the time of her life!!! The Englert theater is a really wonderful venue for great entertainment.
Went to a show here last night. The band that played was fantastic. Did have an issue with the venues policy of allowing people from the audience move from their seats and go stand in front of the first row and aisles, thus blocking the view of the people already sitting there. I spoke to the manager about the issue during the intermission. Was told that if people standing in the aisles remained an issue during the second part of the show that we would be able to move to different seats. When the second part of the show started the issue became worse because even more people came down to the front of the theater and stood in the aisles blocking the view of even more people. Got up and left the show to talk to the manager again. After discussing the issue again was told that this was part of the Iowa City experience. I then kindly said that because of what was happening that I would have to ask for a refund for the tickets that I had purchased. The manager kindly refunded the complete purchase price and apologized for the issue. While I was talking the manager during this time, my wife had gotten up and, by herself, removed a number of people from the aisle who were blocking our view.
Since this, I have concerns about another show that I have already purchased tickets for which will be at this venue in a few months. Is the same issue going to happen at this or any future shows at this theater? I pay money for reserved seating so I can watch a performance on the stage, not to watch the Iowa City experience.
We had issues with ticket handling and the people who work for Englert Theatre were amazing and were able to help us. They were very nice about the situation and very helpful.
My friend had some fanart to give to Jacksepticeye for the event and we weren't sure where it needed to go. So we asked someone who worked/volunteered for the event and she helped get her artwork to where it needed to be. She was a lovely lady and we were grateful that she helped us out.
Great place to hear a show. No seat is a bad seat in this theater.
Beautiful venue! I like being able to sit at a concert. They do a lot of things for the community! However, tickets are often overpriced here.
You know it's a solid venue that is clearly very very well run from a management perspective. Small intimate atmosphere makes it pretty decent you should probably check the alcohol policy before you go into your show because sometimes they close down early.
Poses as community theatre but is a for profit Enterprise run by liberal elites.
Beautiful place to see everything from major musical acts to local performances.
Fun, old theater with comfy seats, simple refreshments, and it is easy to park nearby.
Saw Six Appeal here. Cool old stadium, comfortable seats and the sound was amazing.
Excellent restored venue hosting a broad range of live events. We love attending events here, the staff and volunteers are always helpful while the restoration brought back to life this classy theatre. The upstairs bar area is handy and offers space to enjoy a drink while not sitting in your seats.
I'm glad I decided to travel to see this show at this place
The Second City - It's Not You It's Me ...and it was great!!! The theater was easy to navigate with wonderful staff available to help find seats and answer any questions.
Amazing classic theater that maintains both a cozy and a glitzy feel.
Great venue for performers! I always enjoy the shows and seating is great, especially for shorter people. The ushers are helpful and the greeters are very polite and friendly! Love going there as often as I can!
A lovely historic place. Got to a rock concert and the upper level has an art gallery at the bar area. They were exhibiting some stunning photos of pop and punk icons from Blondie to Divine from the film Pink Flamingos.
Always love catching a show at the Englert, a great Iowa City treasure. Not a bad seat in the house IMO, very friendly staff, and they host a good mix of entertainment. So glad the Englert was saved. If you haven't caught a show there yet, I think it's about time.
Hands down the best place to see a show in Iowa City, maybe in Iowa... maybe in the world. I don't even bother seeing bands in IC unless they are at Englert or maybe at the Mill.
Great venue! I have seen concerts and silent films here. Love the atmosphere! Can't wait to see how they continue to improve the facility.
Love this place, not a bad seat in the house. Have seen many shows here, my favorite is when Second City comes over Valentine's Day weekend.
Old fashioned glamour and comfy seating are the highlights. Good for a wide range of shows
Great venue for events. Large enough to bring in good shows but small enough to provide an intimate experience.
Don't know about the place itself, the show (a capella competition) was out of this world!
The Englert is beautiful two story local theater that hosts various events through out the year. They are a regular venue in many of the towns festivals ( Mission Creek, the Witching hour, Green Gravel...) There isn't a bad seat in the house, it is pretty fantastic.
So glad to see the Englert restored and functioning!
We saw John Hodgman perform Vacationland here, and it has a very nice atmosphere.
The nutctacracker show was incredible. Definitely a good place to see a show.
The concert itself was great, good ticket prices and affordable drinks. The seats were comfortable and it was a fun atmosphere for a show. Only complaint was having to wait in line for the doors to open and then wait again to pick our seats. The seats should be available as soon as you go inside in my opinion.
I love it ... the concert was great and sound system was very good
The Englert is a historic theater that has been renovated to its former glory, and is owned and managed by a non-profit. It's my favorite place for live music. There's really not a bad seat in the house, and it's a very intimate venue. Buy a ticket & see a show!
A fun old place for a concert and it's located right in the middle of downtown Iowa City so you have a selection of restaurants to choose from. We went to The Airliner for the first time in about 40 years and it was a lot of fun and unchanged.
Very nice for a small city. Lots of exciting acts and speakers coming through.
I went to the Englert Theater to participate in a fundraiser for Girls On The Run annual Luna Fest & watch some great films made by women for women. The event was awesome & the films were very inspiring, moving me to tears & joy in some cases. It was a great venue for the film festival, silent auction, and treats. They also had 2 bars for ordering beer or wine.
Date night with spouse to see Gaelic Storm here. A wonderful venue. Lots of character & charm.
Great theater to see a show! I've been to better theaters but there's nothing bad about this place. I saw the Avett Brothers here about 6-7 years ago and it was an excellent venue for the show.
I've enjoyed a few shows here, always a great time. Balcony seating still offers a great view and it's a pretty venue.
We went to a concert by Art Garfunkel -- it was glorious! The Englert is a wonderful theater in the heart of Iowa City. The ushers were very helpful and the doorman was delightful. We always love going to the Englert.
After seeing St Paul and the Broken Bones at the Englert Theatre, it quickly become my go to spot to catch a concert in Iowa City! The staff is so helpful and friendly and the attention to detail is like nothing else I've experienced. Can't wait to go back and see another show!
Very historic. Great performance. Not a bad seat in the house. Also a pleasure to perform there as well. They have dressing rooms and restrooms downstairs back stage.
This is a small but stunning historic venue. Comfortable and very nice acoustics.
The best concert place in town. Kamasi Washington almost exploded it with his music and talent.
Great experience! Beverages are pricey. Love the heart the theater carries.
Very beautiful venue, comfortable seats, great show PMJ!!
Great venue with comfortable seating. Very beautiful venue. I enjoyed the beer and wine bar and the fact they have one on both levels.
This theater is located in the heart of downtown Iowa City. I love to make a day of going downtown with shopping, than dinner, and a show at the Englert. This historic theatre hosts lots of live music, some films, and comedy. I also love that the theater participants in lots of great community events includuing being a regular stop on the Iowa City Gallery Walk and the Downtown Elf Hunt which is popular with kids each holiday season. They host the Nutcracker Ballet each Christmas as well.
Love having seating at a great concert. The seating in the back has some extra leg room, if you know anyone that has disability from sitting in confined areas. My girlfriend needed that to be comfortable, after healing through two knee surgeries.
Beautiful old theater, well restored and hosting a great variety of speakers, music, and events. Saw John Waters speak a few days ago, going to Alloy Orchestra in a couple of days.
Hadn't been to the Englert theatre in years! Wonderful music (Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn) and very attentive staff!
We just had our wedding ceremony here, and it was amazing! The theater is beautiful and they did a great job making the place look perfect. The staff was super organized and helpful in making sure our day was amazing and on schedule. I could not have asked for a better experience.
Local historical landmark and a fantastic place to see a live show. Not quite as upscale and fancy as Cedar Rapids' Paramount theater but beautiful and host to incredible live music as well as ensembles such as Second City. Wonderful venue, highly recommended.
We went to the Nutcracker. Very friendly and clean Englert theater.
A wide variety of quality entertainment at reasonable prices. The acoustics are not great. No on-site parking, but it's within reasonable walking distance.
Good experience. I think their box office line area could be improved; it made it hard to get into the theatre with the setup. Overall I enjoyed it. All the workers are volunteers. They keep the theatre clean and are helpful. Although most seats are on the main level, it's set up on a slight incline so you can see without issue.
A beautiful historic venue, and some truly amazing programming.
So awesome to see the great reviews and comments about the theater. My family owned and operated it among others in Iowa City for years. So happy to see how it is being operated now.
Beautiful theatre, one of the perls of Iowa City! The service from employees and volunteers is always excellent. There's big variety of different events that keep people from all fields and backgrounds entertained!
I grew up in IC when this was a movie theater have plenty of childhood memories here.while I think it's great they keep it historic we found the seats to be uncomfortable and crowded. The drinks here were expensive $6 for 8 oz plastic cup... Gaelic Storm was a great show!
What a great old theatre! I was on the balcony for Paula Poundstone this past weekend for the first time. Great ushers and other staff! I'm 6'3" and seating had enough leg room! I can't tell you how often places like this where I have to turn my legs to fit!
Lovely restored old theater. Wide variety of talent booked. Really love this place.
Always have a great time here. They do a great job of scheduling amazing talents and the atmosphere of the shows are always fun and lively.
