Best educational experience I've ever had. Admittedly there have been some issues with schedule management but nothing worth taking a star away for! Principal has never given students cigarettes. Students given fair trial when it's reasonable for them to recieve one.
I'm a student at Dragon Academy, and this has been the best educational experience I have ever had. The teachers are very helpful, engaged and they give an individualized experience. The Principal is very engaged and dedicated. I am always longing for the next day of school.
Like many of the other students of Dragon Academy, I can't put my real name for fear of expulsion. Nothing is well organized at this school, and nothing is consistent, not even the name. To this day it remains unclear to everyone if the More
The Dragon Academy has truly changed my life for the better. For most of my school experience, I always thought that I hated school. The tests, homework, and extensive studying. I thought that school was awful. My views drastically changed when my parents enrolled me at The Dragon Academy. This school is a place where I feel safe to express my thoughts and my opinions. The atmosphere is friendly and laid-back, it's a safe environment. The teachers have a way of making learning every subject exciting while being collaborative. As for the students, I have made so many good friends and there is absolutely no problematic drama. Overall, The Dragon Academy is a school where all the teachers and classmates are incredibly caring, learning is actually enjoyable, and I'm genuinely excited to go to school every morning.
The Dragon Academy is a phenomenal and incredible school. The staff is comprised of astonishingly passionate, brilliant mentors. The school fosters a supportive community of inspired students. The Dragon Academy prepares students for success in university and beyond through its use of seminar-based classes, which prioritize discussion and critical thought. The school ignited my passion for knowledge and education. I attended The University of Toronto after graduating from The Dragon Academy, along with many of my peers. I believe The Dragon Academy is the primary factor driving the immense success, which my fellow graduates and I have experienced. I consider Dr. Meg Fox, the founder and principle, to be my single greatest role model and teacher. No other educator or personal hero has contributed so greatly to my development as a scholar and as a human being. The gratitude I have for Dr. Meg Fox cannot be expressed through words. I would strongly encourage any parents of high school students to visit the school and experience what The Dragon Academy has to offer. The Dragon Academy will nurture your child s curiosity while providing a superlative high school experience. My parents tell me they adore The Dragon Academy because they saw that I grew happier and more fulfilled each day. I truly believe the school dramatically increased the quality of my life.
I attended Dragon for five years, and each year proved why it s an amazing place. I came from a school where i was bullied by teachers, hopeless in math, and silent in class. Dragon made me feel comfortable in my own skin. I was encouraged by my teachers to speak up, and i learned more because of this. I have an unpayable debt to the amazing teachers, and my classmates. My lifelong friends.
I was in a play every year, with a good speaking role. Not every school can do that for its students. I was on the student council and so many other clubs: qsa, improv, yoga, the list goes on! I made that happen, and Dragon facilitated my exploration. I can say without any exaggeration that it prepared me for the content of university, up to and possibly beyond my third year. I had to re-read a book in third year that Dragon taught in grade 10. Seminars in university are also far more comfortable after a dragon education. Although they could do more to prepare you for hard deadlines (teachers take note!)
That said, i want to address some of the other reviews. I know dragon isn t perfect, and not for everyone. It isnt totally free from bullying, and the hallways can get a pretty dirty in wintertime. (But have you ever been to a school? They smell like wet mittens and orange peels at the best of times.) Dragon is a community, which includes all of its members. Its a great place because of how much the students can impact the daily operations of the place. You want the place cleaner? Fine! Clean it!! Its your home too! And if you have a complaint, you wont be expelled for voicing it in an honest way. Sneaking around the internet on anonymous may make you feel like a russian hacker, but it wont lead to substantial change in your life. And no, the principal never gave out smokes.
I would give you every star in the sky if i could, but google only has five. Five it is.
Thanks to Vanessa, Meg, Steph, James, Sarah, Lorin, Christina, Brendan, and all of the amazing staff! I miss you!
As a student who currently attends The Dragon Academy, I can say this has been the best academic and personal experience of my life. The students are continuously taught exceptional material from professors and teachers with experience and extensive knowledge of the subject. It feels as if a curriculum is individually curated around the medium and topics students find interesting while being mixed with extremely fascinating material. The teachers are always going out of their way to make sure students are doing their best, understanding subjects, and doing anything the can to further their success. The environment is indescribable. We learn about writing in a class filled with famous literature and study history at the ROM with hands-on learning. I find myself working on assignments and reading books for school in my spare time and actually wanting to attend school the next day.
As a current student at Dragon, while I can say that this school definitely works as a learning environment for some, there are some glaring flaws to be looked at before you send your child here. First and foremost, at a most basic level, the school does not keep itself clean. Papers all over the floors of classrooms, bathrooms often incredibly dirty or flat out of order, food debris left in classrooms, overflowing trashcans. The students have little respect for the school, which put simply is just not kept sanitary. Second of all, the handling of scheduling and accomodation for students with extenuating circumstances such as mental or physical disability, commutes of over an hour, or whose home lives are tumoltuous has gone from appearing well intentioned though mismanaged to completely malicious. just in the last 3 months, a vulnerable student was suspended because Meg Fox was afraid of the legal reprocussions of protecting an alleged victim. Meg Fox has been known around the school to be a bit of a bleeding heart, giving too many chances to the wrong people, but i believe this is a misconception, exemplified in her removal of the in need, but inconvenient. As an ending note, there is no cafeteria so students must leave school premises during lunch hour to procure food, theres a troubling rise in drug use around the school, and some classes do not have a consistent teacher for the entire year, even having up to 4 before the end of the third term.
Engaging school atmosphere for bright kids who are struggling and don't fit in a public school. Parental involvement encouraged. Staff are willing to find what works for each youth.
One of the former students who left a five star review, Zephyr Atkins-Mitra, was pulled out of the school by his parents after one of them started teaching there and saw how the school was run and what took place there.
