Location beautiful, Food amazing, staff so helpful and friendly, 4 miles from Peppa Pig world which was excellent for our stay, only 30mins away from Beaulieu car museum, again perfect. This stay was wonderful. The people that work there work so hard and nothing is too much trouble. I will definitely recommend to friends and family and I am sure we will stay there again.

If you need a place to stay in Romsey this would be my recommendation, it has good rooms that are well furnished and quiet, an excellent bar, as you would expect from a pub and food that was very tasty. On top of all that on any nice sunny day there is an outside seating area which is so relaxing , great place, and the staff were excellent.
Fantastic service. Such lovely and helpful staff. I explained that we had never been before and our waitress was able to make us immediately feel comfortable and explained how it worked in terms of being served. This prevented that awkward feeling of not knowing how or when to be served. The food menu was a little pricey but had a lovely variety and everything sounded delicious. Portion sizes were also just right and I thought it was lovely that they made it bespoke by requesting any dietary intolerances before preparing our food. Very impressive and professional.
Tastefully modernised old English Pub, with attractive accommodation.
We were a little bit concerned about staying at a pub. Even in the heart of the English countryside it was reminiscent of tiny rooms over a noisy drinking emporium. The Cromwell Arms is nothing like that. The old pub is to the front of the property. Away from the road you will find a single story of neat, modern rooms around a flagstones-and-lawn courtyard.
The staff are courteous and friendly and the food is excellent.
Unfortunately and sad to say this wasn t a great experience. We arrived on time and walked into the reception area only to be asked to get outside (understandable with Covid but manners and tact unfortunately non existent) We was then presented with a single menu and when asked for additional the waitress seemed very put out) Our initial thoughts was that the staff seemed to be having an off night? When the drinks arrived again the warmth and welcoming charm you expect was non existent the staff were not socially distancing nor were they wearing visors as we have seen in other establishments so the one way system and the hostility to our arrival seemed, well quite frankly pointless. We at this point decided to pay for our drinks and leave! What a shame a charming decor spoiler by rudeness and unwelcoming nature of the staff. We had a lovely meal at restaurant up the road and spent our hard earned with a more inviting and pleasant atmosphere!
Excellent friendly service, lovely room, great shower, good wine list, nice breakfast. Everything you need in a hotel. We didn't eat here in the evening but everybody looked to be enjoying their food.
We got lost trying to walk the test way, so popped in for a drink & directions. Drink good. Surprisingly it's a hotel too & I think a wedding venue. It was much nicer than expected. Will probably revisit and try the food which seemed popular with others. No luck on the directions though as neither staff were local.
We had a really good Sunday lunch at the Cromwell Arms, good quality food, well cooked and well presented. It was difficult to choose a dessert because they all looked so good, but my sticky toffee pudding was perfect. We'll definitely visit again.
Possibly one of the best Fullers pubs in the UK! Great atmosphere, great selection of all things to drink, lovely eating areas and a great looking menu, friendly staff, clean and tidy throughout even though the place was very busy with a wedding. The pub clearly caters for all..... Astro turf for all year round outdoorsiness, nice cosy looking snugs for eating/drinking in a covered area of the garden, plenty of seating and a few games dotted around (Jenga etc.). Fortunate enough to even have a great acoustic set from a young local musician on the outside terrace. Beautiful weather, with a pub to match! Oh, and for families, it's about 5mins drive to Paultons park.
The Cromwell Arms is a smart pub attached to a small hotel.
We've eaten here several times since moving to Romsey in 2012 and the food is reliably good, well cooked, and nicely presented. There is a very decent selection of spirits, and wine, certainly beyond the standard pub options. Beers are primarily Fuller's own, however there are a good selection of seasonal Beers. This is definitely a pub first, not a little bar bodged on to the side.
There's a pleasant outside seating area part of which was covered in artificial grass... At least it's green! There were games (Big Jenga etc) for children (and adults)
It is very busy though, and whilst in a sense this shows that the Cromwell Arms is doing something very right, it also means that little mistakes happen with service and the flow of a visit. It's a small thing, and the staff are friendly, the food good, but maybe an extra body on the bar at busy times would be helpful.
In summary, good atmosphere, polished environment, decent selection of drinks, and food which is elevated beyond standard pub fayre. Just make sure you book, and perhaps avoid busy times.
Stunning location, amazing drink (huge selection of gins) and mouthwatering food, would be 5 stars but for the parking which isn t suffice for the popularity of the pub
One of our favourite haunts for great pub grub..always great service, food is excellent, atmosphere relaxed.. however it has just been taken over by fuller's so things may change.. we hope not..
The pheasant stew was incredible and the accompanying red cabbage was simply the best. The crumble topping on the apple and blackberry crumble was too powdery but the pudding itself was delicious.
I'll be honest with you, my past recollections of this place and its previous incarnations were not so positive. But given a last minute booking, on a random Tuesday night in March, the staff were spot on. The food very good, and did I mention the service? Fantastic. Great evening out.
Lovely food service was a bit disoriented this time however this is my 4th visit over the past 2 years and always good food won't hesitate to recommend it
The setting is lovely as is the interior. The tables are close together but that isn't a problem. It is better too book ahead of a scedualed meeting as the place can become quite packed quite quickly. The staff are polite and incredibly helpful when it comes to serving drinks and food to customers. The food is lovely but is a bit pricy and is more wxpensive than the average pub is.
Exceptionally clean and tidy rooms. The complementary tea and coffee in the rooms were excellent. However the 200ml glass bottle if water is a tad on the small side.
Food is excellent too but service time from order is too slow.
Other than this an excellent service with polite and helpful staff.
By the looks of it it has recently had a refurb and is of a high standard. The outside space looks amazing for eating and drinking in the sun....... however it was raining when we visited - but I will certainly be back on a summers day. Food was lovely and a good range of beers. Also very close to motorway so an easy stop off on the way to/from the new forest etc......
Been coming here for years and always been good but tonight was awful mainly due to the extremely rude so called Manager, who just told us we had to leave at 9.30 and if we didnt it was a criminal offence! Booked a 7.30 table to be told the kitchen closes at 8 and we have to leave by 9.30 so were rushed. Why is this not clear when booking? Will never come back
Lovely place to stay. Loved the location which was very close to Romsey and local attaractions. We had a family event to attend nearby. The room was very well finished and staff friendly for our stay
Nice place. But disappointing meal. We booked late afternoon. Vegetables had been sat around and had run out. Which no one mentioned before we ordered .
I will never visit this place again. The bar girls attitude was awful. The way she spoke to me when i asked for a menu was disgusting. I certainly wouldn't be happy to have her working and representing my company! What a shame. She lets this place down massively.
Had a roast dinner on a Sunday. Potatoes were rock solid and they didnt have any cauliflower cheese. They didnt at any point tell us they didnt have cauliflower cheese and it was only when we questioned it with the waitress were we told that is why we have cabbage instead....
Great food. Nice people. Do not have the room by the rooms access corridor door. Very noisey as the corridor has no soft furnishings to dampen noise. Not good if you want a quite sleep after a long drive. You will get woken up.
I had fish and chips when eating with friends. I'm sorry to say this was the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Didn't want to spoil the occasion as we were in company with friends we hadn't seen for a long time. Thankfully I only had a hand full of chips hiding under over cooked fish. My friends ordered salmon and said it was delicious.
Really nice food and reasonable prices. Very friendly owners. We love coming here for a family meal. Will strongly recommend to anyone to visit our local Cromwell pub.
Didn't eat here but stopped in to rehydrate after a long walk. The barman was very friendly and spent a while chatting to us about our dog. They had a few nice ales as well as the normal pub fare. The bar was very well kept and clean, and the toilets were of an excellent standard.
Very disappointing Sunday Lunch. All pre-prepped, nothing prepared by competent chefs. Roast lamb dried up and stringy lumps on the bone, cauliflower cheese very elderly, inedible. Roasts used to be good, what happened?
Such a nice hotel would definitely recommend to anyone to stay here well worth the money fantastic food evening meal and breakfast couldn't fault it.thanks again Jim
