Musty, ill-organized, and tight spaced, even after recent renovations. Cafe Carlyle looked like a closet. They had a UAE UN delegation and ran the whole thing like a madhouse. Felt uncomfortable. Bemelmans Bar is awesome though!

We stayed here on our wedding night and the following night and, not surprisingly, The Carlyle Hotel was a special and personal experience. Our room was decorated and there were treats waiting for us inside to celebrate the wedding. All of the staff from the concierge, to the elevator operators, to the wait staff at the cafe and Bemelmans Bar made us feel taken care of to a legendary degree. There is a magic here that is unlike anywhere else. To top it off, we were driven home to Brooklyn by the hotel's driver. What a touch for our wedding weekend!

Still a lovely room for music, but not the jewel it once was - a little frayed and unloved here and there, service pretending to but falling short of French tourist hotel levels, food good, but overpriced, uninspired and safe. This used to be a room kitchen and wait staff aspired to work. Now it has the feel of noses to grindstones.

One of the best places to listen to Jazz... if you are lucky to have Woody Allen on the piano then it will be an unforgettable experience!!!!! Classic and one of the top 10 things you must do in New York!!!!!

I grew up in this building, my family splitting time between our home in Georgetown and the Upper East Side. The Carlyle is the ultimate expression of what the Upper East Side is about. I suggest that if you dont like it here, there's a Holiday Inn located near Times Square. One last thing, rest in peace Mr. Short, you are truly missed...

I have enjoyed the Cafe twice and the restaurant once and enjoyed the experience.

But on May 13, 2014 I used a Travelzoo coupon for the prix fixe dinner and was ignored by the wait staff. I did complain to the hostess who took it upon herself to serve my wife and I. I felt humiliated.

I have used Travelzoo coupons at the Four Seasons and LeMeridien and Sofitel with excellent results.

I did email the hotel and called the hotel manager but have not received a response!

Needless to say, we will not return.

Fall from grace. Note that on trip advisor or here the better reviews are from 2008, 2009 - when i felt it was the best in NYC as well. My recent experience here was awful. Rooms have not been renovated in 30 years and are no longer charming - just dirty. Old staff is still as charming and helpful as ever, but the newer staff and managers are downright inconsiderate and unhelpful. They are faster to lecture you than assist you. The gym is appalling, The bright spot is the Cafe and breakfast - but that is one of the few holdovers from a far grander age.Unfortunate there are so many better options in the $500-1000 a night price range that there is simply no justification for staying there.

Ancient history: Had my Bar Mitzvah reception here in 1972, when 'Mr. Chris' was the banquet manager, as well as, my Grandparents 50th Anniversary celebration, at the Regency Room, in 1970. Why do I bring this up ? Here is THE highest caliber New York venue, even to this very day. Presidents, Monarchs, international business leaders, and other very decent sorts, each had the most dignified stay and catering to. Have been to Bemelman's Bar and Cafe Carlyle (saw Herb Alpert and others) in the past few years. The glorious feeling here is totally memorable and unparalleled.

Set off Madison Avenue, this luxe, art deco-inspired hotel is a block from Central Park, a 9-minute walk from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and a 4-minute walk from the 77 Street Station subway.

The plush rooms feature flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, along with iPod docks and minibars. Upgraded rooms add skyline views, sitting areas, and/or soaking tubs and rainfall showers. Sleek suites offer separate living rooms; some have pianos, full kitchens and art collections. Room service is available 24/7.

Dining options include an upscale restaurant, a vibrant bar, and the storied Cafe Carlyle. There's also an elegant spa, a hair salon and a gym.

Great place to visit for evening because of live music. Pricing is a bit overpriced at bar. Charge 25 dollars for first person and 10 dollars for additional person to have a seat at the table before you order anything. I felt misled as it sounded as 25 dollars minimum per person. So two entrees 3 alcohol drinks and a several teas came out to about 240 with tip because we were charged 65 just to sit on chairs. Good thing is that they bring you this little snack platter with bar nuts free. Nice they have live music at the bAr.

Excellent place for a drink, the bar is legendary and has great cocktails, but the service is too much "Fench" for me, that means, if you don't come with your "old lady Chanel" style, you could wait some time to get served...

Best hotel i've ever been to!

5 stars all the way! Expensive but worth it. Talk to Ellis at the bar! He will crack you up. The Piano Bar at Bemelman's is hands down the coolest bar I've ever been to. They played "puttin on the ritz" by fred Astaire for me!!!! Only place I'd go back to in New York.

Very HISTORIC place!!! Go here!
