I had a lot of fun watching Patrick Combs' one-man show about a man who cashes in a junkmail cheque. He employed different voices effectively, including those of an old law professor and a bank insider high on marijuana.

I quite enjoy coming to this theatre. The plays aren't well-known, but they're always avant-garde and interesting. I find the Downstairs Theatre, particularly intimate and enjoyable for plays and performances that are powerful but unusual, to be the perfect setting for hidden gem productions.

The theatre itself is very accessible and convenient for a small theatre. Parking is available across the street and it's very close to public transit. Simple concessions, such as chips, almonds, and soft drinks are available.

The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Ordering tickets online or by phone is easy and tickets can be picked up at the box office minutes before the performance. I have never had any administrative problems with ticket ordering, whether making a purchase or redeeming vouchers.

Solid venue with diverse and innovative programming. I never know what.to expect and have been surprised many times. Simply showing up to one of their shows and doing no research can be really fun. Surprised is a rare thing these days and I'm happy to say that Canadian stage offers it up consistently.

My experience... well, I was excited. Like a child before Christmas. I was going to the Berkeley Theater to see Paul Gross in Domesticated.. wow. I have always enjoyed Paul Gross and to see the Berkeley Theater was new for me.
Unfortunately, I may have picked the wrong play or was it the venue? I sat in the third seat from the front, the the left of the stage, rows C21 / 22. Close enough I thought, to be able to hear the actors... you see, I am hearing impaired.
Although I had my aids full blast, there was no way in HELL I was able to hear what they were saying.. I heard bits and pieces, but my heart sank, when I just could not hear what they were saying! My husband, who is NOT inflicted said, if he had been further back, he would not have heard them as well.
Is this the fault of the theater? perhaps the actors? There were no microphones attached to them.. that was for sure. I was so looking forward to this being a good experience, but unfortunately it was not.

I was totally let down and left after the intermission so disappointed.

Small theatre with an intimate atmosphere. Sitting in the front rows, it's like being on stage and is the best way to watch a play - saw Venus in Fur (5*s) recently and it was a deeply absorbing dramatic experience.

I saw Botticelli in the Fire last week. First I was apprehensive as to where is this going, in the end, of course, as plays do, it all came together very nicely. The casting couldn't have been better, everybody in a perfect role.
Leonardo da Vinci's anguish and anger was palpable. Nice (humorous) symbolism attaching the codpiece on shorts.
Man never changes?

Definitely the poorer cousin of the Bluma Appel theatre. Small poky venue with mediocre acoustics, a tiny lobby area and VERY cramped seating. If you're more than 6 ft tall, get a first row or aisle seat to avoid hours of ergonomic torture and stay clear of the balcony altogether.

I attended Domesticated at the Berkeley and what an amazing experience. It was one of the best performances I've ever seen. The play was everything they said it would be, funny, serious and dramatic. It was so well written and staging was brilliant. I sat in row H, last row in centre orchestra seating and it was perfect. What an intimate setting, you felt like you were sitting in someone's living room. I can't say enough on how much I enjoyed the evening.

Incredibly eloquent and nuanced theatre. Proud to call it Canadian me, but they define what Canadian theatre is for me. "Kiss" was the best production I've ever seen and it has changed the way I perceive theatre. Canadian Stage - never change but keep evolving.

The atmosphere at the theatre is very intimate and the staff were professional and nice. A beautiful venue conveniently located in the downtown area.
My first time coming to the Canadian Stage Company was underwhelming. I came to see Onegin (the musical) and had very high expectations; I was disappointed by everything but the actors.
Decorations were clashing with each other (the colourful paper lanterns do not fit well with the image of St. Petersburg), costumes needed more work (some of them looked out of the place, while others seemed to have been purchased from Zara last minute), the storyline was reduced to a love story. Overall, this performance did not do Onegin justice.
I hope to see something more exciting next time.

This is an interesting intimate small stage theatre area where we have had the pleasure to view a number of theatre productions. Content often provides adequate fodder for thought and rarely have we left without the need for further discussions. Not large but valuable theatre!
