The Blue Pub, Methven, NZ Review

Service was basic...left and went to Brown Pub where staff were friendly and inviting...

Great food, service and layout of indoor and outdoor seating.

We stayed from 10/07/18 - 12/07/18, for 3 nights. The place is very clean and freshly renovated, with exception that trash-like bogans flooded the space during our stay. There is a balcony/fire platform outside some rooms, and people were still outside at 1am. Mainly younger ones who were loud, shouting and couldn't care less if other people are sleeping. Amongst them were a mature couple, you think would have better conduct, but no different. Thanks to walls being PAPER thin, you can hear them doing the woohoo next door, absolutely no discretion and regard for public conduct whatsoever. On top of that, the wife has this horrible goat-like laugh she wears ever so proudly every 3 seconds or so, which carried through the walls and well past midnight. The nerve this woman had disturbing our sleep, and aware of it. As a result we couldn't get a proper night's rest on all three nights. There is no one to overseer the hostel after 10pm, so all bets are off after that. If you are lucky, you might have well conducted neighbours, if not so then be prepared.

Mint place, great staff, great food, great vibe. Always worth a trip after a day up the mtn to wind down!

Great pub welcoming and friendly staff, always a great time at the blue pub! If you're in Methven or passing through and looking for refreshments I highly recommend stopping in.

Terrible food. Food comes out over 6 dishes there was no consistency (staggered over 1hr 20).... All servings were completely different in serving sizes. Only 1 out of 6 ate the meal. Asked for a reason why behind the bad quality.... I was told "you get what you pay for". Avoid and be careful... The brown pub is owned by the same mob. Avoid or prepare for poor quality service and hospitality.

Update: Owner and manger both have addressed my groups concerns. Although the food quality was still as per the below they were extremely sorry for our terrible experience and offered us a complete package to try again (quite generous package)! They had a lack of upper management on the fateful night of our visit and communication was substandard. I hope to give the blue pub another go soon!!!

Great vibe, outdoor seating in the sun in the afternoon, alright beer selection, live music and quiz on Sundays

Went for a beer at 11am. Got a beer. Was a good day.

This pub is over rated - food is average and below and very pricey - but if your in for drinks - no problem

I was kicked out of this establishment for intoxication levels and antics not seen before in the sacred Blue pub, The buggers were so nice they welcomed me back in almost immediately. The crown jewel of Methven.

Love the blue pub, especially for an apres ski drink with my family sitting outside in the sun or warming next to the fire.

Always nice. Large nachos had plenty of meat.. A little light on the cheese

We came for a meal around 7.30 & chose the fish & chips. Soggy chips, terrible batter , nice service.

I am always down for a good laugh and a joke but felt so insulted when I was ordering my meal at the bar. I have a few allergies so asked for them to be taken out or the meal and the server was joking about it. Not sure if he realised how insulting he was being. He was also joking about it, with who I assume were a few of the locals. So I had 4 people making fun of someone that they did not know. I was ready to leave as soon as that happened but couldn t due to me companions having already ordered. Won t be coming back again.

Food was so delicious! We ordered the pork bites, Pasta and Nachos A++++ definitely be back :-)

Pork Belly Bites, Blue Pub Tacos and Chips were delicious. Service was fast and friendly. Highly recommend.

We arrived at the blue pub for a drink and dinner after a day of skiing. We were with a group of 10. Turned out that one of our friends only had his UK drivers license with him. We were about to order when the guy behind the bar told our friend that he couldn't serve him because of his UK drivers licence and that he wasnt even allowed in the pub. The food menu looked amazing and we were very hungry after a whole day of skiing. There were kids in the pub with their parents having alcohol beverages and we were turned away. I think that is just very disappointing especially in these times.. Bad service, rude staff. Went opposite to the Brown Pub where his ID got accepted.

Good service. Nice place to pop in for a drink even though the Jugs are a bit expensive.

Been there for a few light lunches and always good but went for a dinner for a birthday and wouldn't do dinner there again, too basic and just bar staff service, they charge for mayonnaise, there was no sauces on the plate so asked for some presuming they had forgot, not great

Great food, great cold beer, great veiw of MT.Hutt, great friendly staff and close by to the great new soon to be built Methven Hot Pools.

Spent +100 dollars in food, we asked for more bread and some aioli because the size of the portion is too big for the little aioli that you get. Got charged for it, not only that but you have to stop eating get up and pay to get it... Food wasn't bad.

Place is nice, but expensive for what it was ($26.50 for fish&chips+softdrink - fish far too greasy)

Great place. Good size portions . The only let down was chips were a little soft not crisp

Very quiet midweek night in the pub, arrived just as they closing up, but still managed to get a drink before going to our room - a bunk bed arrangement - a bit worn, but still comfortable. No water supply to the sink in the room. We just wanted a bed for the night, and that is what we got for a reasonable price; communal bathroom and kitchen - no frills, just good, solid accommodation.

Things we ordered from menu was sold out, and we found that out after waiting an hour. The food we actually got was not very good either. Extremely slow service. I would not recommend this place for food.

Sharing plates were a great way to sample a variety of food for dinner. Everything was full of flavour and tender

I was very disappointed with the food narchos had only a tiny spoonful of mince, the BLAT was just a B&L in a soggy wrap my husband had a chicken burger and today if very sick.
Would not recommend I would rather go spend $80 @ McDonald's

We stoped off at the blue pub today. We wanted a quick bite to eat before continuing on our travels. We ordered the pub platter for 45 bucks, which states enough food for four. After waiting 50 mins and watching people who ordered after us receive their food we asked how long it would be. We were informed by the staff it would just be out, after a further 10 mins our platter arrived. There was barely anything on the plate and defiantly not enough for four people to share. I m not one for ever complaining but I felt I had to here.
Otherwise it s a nice looking pub with a really nice outdoor seating area in a very nice setting.
Grand if your keen for a drink, but fire across the road if u get hungry for a sandwich or you will be famished the time your food arrives

We were very excited to check out the Blue Pub during our afternoon visiting Methven. Unfortunately we were extremley disappointed with the attitude of a server and left after our first drink. 0/10 would not recommend.

Nothing special here. Its ok, service was terrible.

Went for lunch on a Sunday. Nice outdoor seating, food was available all day. Food was out quickly and was good portion size. A little pricey but not to unreasonable.

Today my husband and I came here for lunch, we walked in and asked for some menus and a table for two. The girl behind the bar said that was fine and gave us some menus and indicated to sit anywhere. Once we took a seat, ordered and paid for our lunch, the girl asked us for ID. Having not been ID'd for years I did not think to take mine with me. The staff told us we had to sit in the closed resturant which was very cold, secluded and they didn't even bother to turn the lights on for us. Our meals arrived and only ate one, as the other was below average. We did not see any staff once they put our meals on the table. We will not be going here again, the service was very poor and had we been asked for ID initially before being given menus and paying, we would have been able to politely go somewhere else to enjoy a meal and atmosphere of eating out and come back again next time when we remembered to bring ID.

The friendly people quickly make you feel as if you were in your own pub. Whit a wide range of alcoholic beverages to chose from and the nice selection of different kinds of food a good experience is guaranteed

Average meal at an expensive price. Our group were not told about the specials. service was average. Glassware was dirty
