Really good experience, very friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Good work guys!
Returned after 3 years to see much-needed arena completed with a great show as it was 3 years ago.
Very interesting, history and current stories of the working and living life of the stockman.
Cinema was good. Art gallery closed but still same entry fee. Curator staff hard to access. Static displays are showing their age. Don't understand why it's so dark inside with light off.
Brilliant place to visit in the Outback, such friendly staff, great entertainment
Advertised 4pm close, arrived 2pm to be told no its 3pm. Meant $70 for one hour. Way too much.to see in that time. We had come from Brisbane, and could not stay for the extra day. Plan a full day..
We did not book ahead and so were not allowed in the building, not even for a souvenir. The young girl at the front counter was very abrupt to deal with. We would not visit again.
Go in off season. There were only 9 people there including our three. This is an incredible mixture of all things outback. Make sure you give yourself at least 90 minutes. Be sure to see the mini documentary and sit and watch all other animations. Well worth a visit.
Fantastic! Daytime show was great. Museum top notch
Great place to visit we got a 2 pass from the Qantas museum 55 dollars.
Good history good displays good staff we were there June 26 2019, nice weather warm sunny days a little cool early in the morning's. Don't think I'd like to be there in the summer, overall a good day.
Very good heritage place, you can also see the show, museum, and a shortfilm all about stockpeople...
Pretty hard to review when u can t get in due to Anastasias rules, but what about Suncorp stadium where thousands all piled in last night ..... so much for Queenslanders travelling in Queensland
Very disappointed
Look this place is really great to visit on the whole and it's full of really awesome stuff but I do think it's a little bit pricey for what's there and they ran out of food (pie floaters)in the cafe. Other than that well worth a visit.
BEWARE. Concessions advertised apply to a select few, overseas seniors are excluded. Expensive and not good value for money.
The Australian Stockman s Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre is Australia s premier outback heritage institution. Since its opening in 1988, the Hall of Fame has played host to over one million interstate and international visitors providing each one with a spectacular outback experience.
Situated in Queensland s central western town of Longreach, the museum, stunningly constructed from timber, stone and corrugated iron, is truly reminiscent of the outback. With its unique design, the Hall of Fame stands comfortably among the rugged yet vibrant rural landscape.
nside, the Centre s five themed galleries proudly display the history behind some of Australia s greatest and bravest explorers, stock workers, pastoralist, and Aborigines. The exhibits comprising an eclectic mix of objects, images, touch screens, audiovisual presentations and open displays, allowing visitors to interpret the outback story in their own unique way.
The museum also houses a vast reserve collection which forms a unique work-in-progress display. From behind a glass wall, visitors can view archival material, photographs, artworks and various other items used for research and in new display development.
The actual story behind this true Aussie icon began in 1974 when Hugh Sawrey dreamt of creating a grand tribute to the unsung heroes of remote Australia.
This dream, it turned out, was shared by other outstanding Australians, including the legendary R.M. Williams. Following a massive fundraising effort coordinated by this group of visionaries, Sawrey s vision splendid began to take shape.
The quaint rural township of Longreach became the chosen site for the monumental project, and a national competition was held for the design of the building. Sydney architect, Feiko Bouman won the national competition with his design, inspired by the unique buildings, silos and water tanks of the outback.
With further financial support from the Federal and Queensland State Government 1988 Bicentennial program plus an extensive fundraising effort by supporters, commerce and industry, work began on the magnificent museum.
The building was completed in 1987 and was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, on 29 April, 1988.
The Australian Stockman s Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre has since become an incorporated, self funding not-for-profit company which operates without any debt or on-going government assistance. Money for the running and maintenance is provided from admissions, sales of souvenirs, catering, membership subscriptions, sponsorships and donations.
Great family venue could have spent the whole day here
Great people running the shows and very enjoyable. Great work to all
Second visit to the Stockmans Hall of Fame and this time we spent 3.5 hours wandering around, watching the films, listening to the narrations, immersing ourselves in the Indigenous history of this amazing place Australia, so full of history and so well done. Missed the outdoor show by one week but have seen it previously and it's well worth the extra cost. Well done Longreach, well done.
If your into how the stockmen, it's amazing but if not its still pretty fun going back In time to see how different people got hundreds of cattle over 2000 kilo meteres using horses. It's just a wonderful trip back in time. Definitely recommend going
Very interesting to see all the histories of everything and all the displays. Great for all ages because of the small interactive sides of some of the displays. Loved the addition of the theatre. Great little gift shop to get some souvenirs and also a pleasant area for having a coffee and a little treat.
Would recommend to anyone good for caravans plenty of room clean amenities.Dog friendly
Must do in Longreach especially the Stockman's show. If going between May and October take the opportunity to do the dinner and show!
If you are ever travelling this way you need to stay a few days and visit whats on offer. The Stockman's Hall is well worth the hours you will need to go through. Make sure you book into the Horse handling show that is on offer day or night as it is very good. Have been a few times and it is still worth visiting. easy walk along paths from accommodation.
Probably up there with the worst. Not enough info on displays mostly geared towards school groups CX 13year olds definitely not for the thinking person.
Main museum was closed for renovations till April 2021, and live mustering show has been closed down till 2021. There was a cinema showing the history, but this didn't interest me
Excellent, except no whip making on this visit which was disappointing
Well worth a visit to get an understanding of our outback workers.
Exceptional displays and tributes to our pioneer rural workers, male, female and all nationalities and ethnic backgrounds. The static and moving displays are outstanding and the whole complex is well presented. The entertainment on offer is interesting to all age groups.
Congratulations to the people who designed and built the complex, and also to those who work there.
One word.
Awesome.
Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed by the Stockmans Hall of Fame - not much heritage really on display -better at folk museums at Ilfracombe or Barcaldine - very much visual presentations, but housed with such dim lighting that was very difficult for my mum to read much at all - and being so dark made it quite tiring to read stuff.
Great entertainments I received here and knowledge about the stockman life n trading the old days..I love all the clever animals in the show
This is what most Aussies come to Longreach to see. Most go home disappointed because they didn't realise there was so much to see and do! We spent all morning and most of the afternoon there. Then went back for the evening show. Have set aside more time to finish off seeing the museum another day. Highly recommend.
Very informative history of the outback pioneers that shaped the way we live now
Spread out over 3 levels
Wasn't what I was expecting but exceded it!! Heaps of exhibits. Well worth a visit
Amazing place, allow at least the whole day to look around. Only bad thing about the place was the pies, I would have preferred a home brand frozen pie.
Okay, a true assessment - understandably we went during Covid-19 and do what was on offer was much less than the "full deal" that is normally available. What we saw was excellent but having 150 minutes only to see everything, and have to do so with the 100+ other visitors that are let in with you, means that you cannot wander at your leisure and see everything. So whilst it was a small chunk of pretty awesome, we left feeling fairly flat and thinking we had missed out. So it was good, but we were disappointed that we couldn't experience to full deal.
A really great experience. I highly recommend the stage show.
Big $ spent setting up this attraction. Displays very professionally done but lacks that rustic down to earth Aussie feel
We'll done to all participants
.
Great history of The Outback thru the years from initial settlement in the area to present day
Great to see the history and well displayed and presented pictures..buildings... etc...can soend a good couple of hours going over the 3 levels...
Great place to put articles into a picture from scenes looked at during visits from the deserted towns traveled thru or getting answers from implements laying idle or rusting in the big paddocks that scatter across each side of a road snaking past barbed wire and termite eaten fence poles and dissappear into a dot we call distance or the end of the road.
I was disappointed not to be able to see anything without paying a fee. The only thing available to me was a cafe and souvenir store.
Good display of historic photos , equipment , and records of past achievments. The evening meal was well prepared and you selected your own serve .On a cold evening the gas heating was appreciated.
I would highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.
So much history and memorabilia in one place. It is a credit to everyone who put it together.
Keep up the great work
Stockman John's Live Show was awesome, great for all ages.
Disappointed couldn't go in. Booked up.
Great grounds and building.
It was so full of history. The daytime show is awesome, the night time was was excellent and the food was spectacular and no shortage of it. Lachie Cossor is an amazing entertainer, such talent.
11am show very informative and explains many aspects of stockman lifestyle and animals. The history museum worthwhile seeing so need to spend a few hours there. Also Cafe. Evening show with dinner
Its fabulous to kearn if Australian history. You just don't get to learn at school. I swear I've learned more since we've been gray nomads then all my time in schools.
Tonnes of interesting history and pieces on show, and interactive parts too. A few sections were closed for renovation during my visit (re-opening very soon) yet there was still more than enough so I was in there more than 5 hours. The ladies working there are also really nice.
Can Spend more than a couple of hours wandering through the great displays and information
Take the time to really appreciate all aspects of the life in the outback.
Loved it!
Did the museum, dinner and show.
The dinner was delicious and the show was entertaining. The atmosphere was great,
with a talented cowboy singing with his guitar while having dinner. Finishing his gig with a personalized rendition of waltzing matilda.
Pass allows you to go back a second day to see the museum which is great as there is lots to see.
Highly recommended.
Wasn't exiting as the first time some of the things inside wasn't working pay a a lot of money for things you don't get to see if they work
Some intersting displays. Stockman's show was good. Shame there weren't more historic artefacts on display e.g. early exploration and specifics about early settlers rather than just a generic section on pioneers.
Very interesting trinute to the outback pioneers. Great building and facilities.
Loved it, especially the film shown at the cinema..good food, excellent collection of history.
Worth a look and interesting but a lot of reading for the money spent
Incredible place. Must see if are anywhere near it. Just needs some comfy shaded seating outside as I had to sit on the steps with our dogs while hubby went in and then visa versa.
A terrific place, the film on the history of the Stockman is moving
MUST VISIT.... terrific fun 1 hour show giving simple yet informative history of Aussie stockmen and stockwomen. For all the family. World class....
it was closed for renovations when we arrived, so disappointed after travelling so far to see it. reopening in April 21
The show was amazing and the meal afterwards was just as good. Would highly recommend this show to anybody how has the chance to go and see it.
We loved it, but shame the show was not starting until the end of school holidays.
Interesting place to look over. No photos to be taken inside. $35 admission per person.
Very informative website that was easy to navigate.
A place every Aussie needs to visit the back bone of this beautiful country of ours.
