The Arts Centre functions better today than it did a decade ago. The restoration has been achieved with sensitivity and informed knowledge. One of the best sites to experience a past Christchurch.

This is definitely one of Christchurch's must see places!!
Lovely scenery and garden areas outside, good looking historical buildings, interesting activities for everyone in the family.
I spend hours here as there is plenty of things to keep you occupied.

Chance entry walking past and saw Rutherford s Den exhibition.

Excellent exhibition on Rutherford s life and achievements - very inspirational!!

Wonderful to visit the den where RUTHERFORD conducted experiments and the old lecture theatre with lots of names engraved into the timber over the years - could really picture what it would have been like back then.

Sad to see a scale down a bit.

Sad to see a scale down a bit.
Atmosphere also less festive with fewer local tourists.

Hope that the city cheer up a bit the next time we visit and not lost the charm.

Absolute cracker of a day to be exploring the city centre, love the fudge place - always get some cheeky wee samples. Go see the historic buildings around the place and definitely check out Rutherford's Den.

The Arts Centre is a beautiful collection of neo-Gothic buildings in the heart of Christchurch. The buildings were heavily damaged by the earthquake and are now being lovingly restored. Many are now open and there are lovely art works to enjoy around the property. The I-Site is now situated here. There are shops, cafes, and two nice museums: Rutherford's Den and the Teese Museum of Classical Antiquities. The Clock Tower has been cleaned and restored. It is a lovely place to explore.

The Christchurch Art Center operates in a very old university building. It has very attractive rooms and very interesting exhibits.
It is in front of the Botanical Garden, some art schools operate within the Center and you can have a very good time.

I haven't been into the arts centre since before the earthquakes. It is now a far cry from the ripped open tower above le cafe, with the exposed bell tolling from aftershocks. Obviously there has been a massive reconstruction brick by brick since then. It was actually a delight to walk in the completed courtyard with confidence in the buildings. The newly opened great hall is well worth a visit with the stunning stained glasd windows. The arts centre had not lost it soul, and the voices of the past still speak.

Wheelchair access is pitiful and demeaning. No access at the front, no access from the side markets. Access via the back and if you buy some food and drinks you have to exit at the rear and go all the way around to the front.

Its a beautiful architecture of relatively ancient times. It was old Canterbury collage/University of Canterbury. It has a room where Ernest Rutherford conducted his experiments and the room is named Rutherford s Den . The place now belongs to a school and is also a Arts Centre.
