Food was decent but I didn't think it was worth all the hype. It didn't seem like authentic chinese food to me and judging by the amount of non-chinese people in line, my statement is probably accurate. The noodle soup I had was tomato based... That's definitely not authentic.
The lamb burger was great tho. My bf is from Xi'an and he said it was better than their local lamb burger.

Amazing food from Northern China. Home made noodles that are to die for. Lamb stew that are off the hook. Great place to sample a cuisine not usually available at your typical Chinese restaurant.

Haven't had such a terrible lunchtime experience in years. We five came a long way to try out the new taste but the service was so disappointed. No one greeted us, no one seated us, and the way they talk was extremely rude. Won't ever go.

I live so far from this restaurant, but not only I come here quite often, I even made it a must to try for all the family and friend visitors that I have because they have the best chinese ( the BEST noodles) ever.

Smells funny when you first walk in, but it's ok. Everything else makes up for it. Very tasty and well priced. I especially liked the lamb dishes. The portions are generous and the service is quick.

Great fresh noodles with awesome texture. Large portions and fair prices make it a great choice for Xi'an tastes.

We tried the main-pi with sesame - these are thick, cold noodles with an oily chili sesame sauce. If you like sesame these are really good!

The noodles in sizzling oil were also good, it's a simple mostly noodle and bean sprout bowl with a big pile of spice on top (I'd guess cumin, chilli, and a few others). You mix it all together and you end up with a flavorful, fairly spicy bowl of nicely chewy noodles. I would have appreciated slightly more oil in this one though.

Last, we had the qishan minced pork noodles. These were probably the winning dish (but all were good). Delicious thick noodles in a rich, hearty soup.

Attentive service despite being very busy. Its between a 4 and a 5, but as a noodle lover I'm bumping it up. Highly recommended.

This place is awesome. The food is delicious and the servers are friendly and efficient. The portions are large so be prepared to bring food home. We miss it when they go on vacation.

Although it has to be arranged for a long time, every time you come to the face of Lushan, you will feel that everything is worth it! Haven't been to Xi'an, whether the authentic Xi'an cuisine is not available here, but it is very good!

Absolutely love this place. Got super lucky and walked in and was seated right away (party of 2). This was on a Friday night around 645. Place was packed and waiters/waitresses were a little busy, but still super nice and cordial. We ordered 5 dishes: spinach, pita bread in lamb soup, mian pi with sesame sauce, Chinese lamb burger, and sliced pork with ginger. Each dish was so yum. Only thing I was a little meh about was the pork, only cause it was mostly fat. But the ginger topping they used was really really good. No complaints about the others, and would definitely order everything again. All that was less than $40 after tax. Pretty amazing and filling that price point. Coming back soon!

I ordered the Spicy Chicken and Potatoes with hand made wide noodles. Tasted amazing! Perfectly balanced flavors and not overwhelmingly hot. We got the large portion which could easily feed 4 people.

Really awful service! Asked the waiter and waitress if we could wait to be seated, both of them said they re not in charge of this. Seems like nobody was in charge of anything and we didn t receive any explanation or apologize about that situation.

Parking is not so difficult to find as other restaurants in SF.

One of my favorite place in bay-area, everything tastes soooo good, Mianpi definitely my first choice (the one with sesame sauce ). Portion is big service is great too, will come back for sure with friends!

Really authentic tastes and flavor. I had the pork noodle soup, the lamb burger and the Shanxi Liang pi. All very tasty and came out fast.

The decoration was also really nice, with cool wooden tables and tree branches coming out of the walls.

If you're in the area you should try it, but be prepared to wait.
EDIT: my friend is sensitive to MSG and had a bad headache after, might be worth noting. I didn't have any issues.

Very well executed Shaanxi/Xi'an style food in a clean, well-decorated environment with very affordable prices.

Crowd pleasers include the mian pi noodles ($4) (aka liang pi or "cold skin" noodles), which although not as wonderous as Xi'an Famous in NYC is the best version you will find in SF. The cumin lamb burger ($4.50) and the pork with hot pepper are very tasty stir fried meats sandwiched between the pita like bread. My favorite dish is the sizzling noodles ($8) where sizzling hot oil is pours over chewy hand drawn noodles. Chili flakes and scallion infuse the oil and bath the noodles and bean sprouts in the resulting tastiness.

Service was surprisingly attentive.

we came here for lunch on a Saturday and they were out of all of the mian-pi dishes. We tried the 3 in 1 biang biang noodles. It looked nice in other people s photos and we read some previous reviews saying it was bland and we were like how can it be bland? And it was bland but i would have given it 4 stars if it delivered on the pork burger but it was so bland and dry the photo on their menu has the outside being golden and crispy but ours (see photo) was just white, not crispy at all and the filling was not well-seasoned. The one from xian famous foods is much better

Would highly recommend their signature hand pulled noodles, good mix of salty + spicy flavors and the noodles have a unique texture/chewiness. I ve tried multiple appetizers here but my favorite ones are the cucumber, jelly fish, and the seaweed. I d stay away from the pig ears and broccoli, as I don t think many people order them and so aren t as fresh (some of the broccoli that was served had gone bad). Also best to show up earlier to avoid long waits.

The service is much better than other Chinese restaurants, and the restaurant is also very avant-garde. It is important that the couple lungs are also very good. The price is also moderate, you can recommend 5 stars

Very bad service attitude, Da Lao Yuan drove over, the waiter did not have a person in charge, I would like to ask when a guest asked the waiter a question, the waiter said don't know, and then turned away, what is your mood? Didn't your service staff know? What should I do when I come to consume for the first time?

This was a pleasant surprise. Enjoyed the shaanxi cuisine.. We ordered the lamb n cumin burger and the special with 3 dishes -sizzling oil, tomato, pork.

The flavors were spicy ad delicious!!! Highly recommend... yay.. there's more to Chinese cuisine and this is a must try..

We went at 11:20am, and it opens at 11:30am.. within 30mins, the restaurant was full, quite a delightful experience..

I am all about the Shaanxi noodles, the cumin lamb burger, and the lamb soup here. It's very different from your standard Chinese fare, and they are knocking it out of the park. Yum!

We stopped getting the lamb pita soup because the ratio of pita to everything else was too high. However, you can still enjoy the same delicious lamb soup with the pita separate or with wide, hand-pulled noodles, so that is a win in my book!

I heard that it was closed because of some hygiene issue. But compared to its authentic flavor, I don t really care.
It s still my top 1 Shan xi restaurant in Bay Area.
Highly recommended: all kinds of noodle.

I'm generally skeptical of Chinese food in the Bay Area as it's usually not very authentic, so when a restaurant has a touristy name, I'm even more wary. That being said, I thought the food at Terra Cotta Warrior was very good. I would give it 4 stars but it wasn't exactly all Shaanxi cuisine, so I downgraded by one to 3 stars.

Must Haves:

1. Mianpi: this in my opinion is the most authentic. It's spicy but on the refreshing side, so it's a great appetizer. I like that there are little bits of bread soaked in the sauce.

2. Tofu skin and celery: this is a cold dish that is not spicy, but it'll save you from all the other spicy dishes. This is a very homey dish that only Chinese people know to order, so if you want an authentic experience, get this.

3. Spicy pork or lamb cumin sandwich: these are the two best ones, don't get the regular pork. Very flavorful but very spicy as well, so beware!

Other good dishes:

4. Spicy lung and tendon: this is a Sichuan dish, but one of my favorites. Very numbing spicy, so beware. But it's really good. My friend described it as a spicy bacon, so I guess that's a good thing, huh?

5. Spicy chicken in gravy: not sure what this is one the menu, but it's basically the most expensive dish there is (and even then it's only $21). It's humongous, so only order this if you're 4+ people. It's basically a slightly sweet and very spicy chicken dish in a gravy-ish sauce, served over hand pulled noodles. It's really good, very hearty and delicious.

Prices are very reasonable here. If you're in a group, you'll average maybe $25 here for each person, which is such a steal considering you'll pay more for less authentic Chinese food elsewhere.

This is the place for real-deal Shaanxi food in the bay area. Both hand pulled noodles (biang biang mian) and the lamb-bread stew (yang rou pao mo) were excellent, with the latter excelling in particular. The tram goes right there, but do expect a wait most nights. It's well worth it. The chili paste (la jiao jiang) is not as spicy as in a Sichuan restaurant, and has that earthy gritty texture characteristic of Shaanxi. It's spot on.

Great food! Really good hand-pulled noodles, so definitely try something with those. I had the wonton soup as well and the broth was delicious--pictured is a smaller bowl given for easy sharing and a larger bowl that was filled with soup
