I've been a loyal customer since the early 80's. Drawn initially by the promise of an exotic experience and the communal atmosphere, I have since (especially after studying the language and working in Japan for a year) gained an appreciation for the authentic ambiance of a Japanese onsen. COVID-19 has presented its challenges, but 10000 Waves has managed them well. The peace and solice they provide are even more welcome during these very interesting times. Five stars are not enough.

Beautiful and very beneficial. Great place to relax and unwind completely. next to the huge hot pool is a small cold basin called a cold Plunge. Believe it or not it's actually exhilarating to spend Maybe 30 40 seconds in the cold Plunge submersed up to your neck and then return to the hot pool. You will feel A tingle that moves throughout your whole body and seems to signal new energy. Sounds new agey but it's actually true.

My husband and I always go to ten thousand for a relaxing time... Unfortunately this time was not great.we decided to upgrade and get the indoor room as opposed to the out door spa.. we got to the indoor room and found massage oil all over the tub and in the water it was so slippery my husband almost slipped and fell... We told the desk this and they didn't care at all I find it discussing that the didn't care or clean before us

Staff is absolutely world class, so helpful and so pleasant. Everything was very clean, well attended. We went back a second day in a row because it was so incredible! The restaurant has fantastic food. It was an experience I will remember the rest of my life. I highly recommend to everyone. Not a single complaint either visit.

We dropped by with a party of 13. 7 of us were kids! The staff was very nice, the hot tub was amazing in the freezing night! We had a private hot tub with sauna and loved every minute of it!
Very nice and clean place. Just what you need after a day of skiing!

I wish I could give more stars. The staff were incredible. We were graced by Avi's (the cat) presence during our private hot tub time. He is worth his weight in gold (refer to sunday's night staff for details). The food and ambience were more than we expected. I can't wait to come back, even though I only live an hour away. I'm a frugal person and every penny was well spent. I can't wait to visit again. Thank you for this experience!

What a great place to unwind and relax whilst in Santa Fe! The private rooms are ideal to take a bottle of bubbly and relax with your partner in the hot and cold tubs on your own. Then having a couples massage is a great way to finish off the experience there. It s not inexpensive, but it s worth every dollar.

Bring your desire to drop out of society and a need to rejuvenate. Ten Thousand Waves is truly a sensory experience you will never forget. If you stay at the resort, the Bissou Room is top notch. The decor is Japanese matching the theme of the resort. The Room is large and seculded. The walk to the Grand Bath is relaxing and the hot soothing water helps melt away the daily pressures we all face. The have an on site restaurant that is very good with small portions to be shared. The private Tubs that you can rent offer total privacy and a secure place to abandon everything except your Bithday suit. Bring your credit card and be prepared to use it. You get alot and you pay alot. To me it was worth it. 5 Stars!

FANTASTIC! Relaxing! Exceedingly clean & beautiful lodging & dog friendly! Much needed weekend escape. Walking through the GORGEOUS surroundings to the spa in our luxurious spa robes. The restaurant is SO impressive, a delight!
Amazing.

I never write a review; but, this was a most amazing and exceptional stay - HIGHLY recommend!

We have been talking about when we can return ever since leaving! :)

I thought this place was a hotel/resort & once we got there I quickly realized that was not the case. This place definitely caters to a certain clientele. If you're a yoga-practicing, rice milk-drinking vegetarian type that's into communal living this will be right up your alley. On the other hand, if you're modest, introverted, & expecting luxury, you may surprised. This is a tried & true spa "retreat" w/cabins, communal baths, & yoga-massage-like activities. To start off, short of the snack-type foods you can purchase at the spa gift shop, they don't have a restaurant, so make meal arrangements. Secondly, my husband assumed b/c I was a bath-taker I'd be into the hot springs bath. I'm a bath-taker due to practicality & health reasons & not into bathing outside in the 30 F weather & submerging myself in a near boiling tub. This doesn't sit well w/someone that is a fainter. Nor am I into "communal bathing" or hanging about in the open w/ naked flesh. They do have private baths, great if your a hot tub type person, which btw, are chlorinated. Which reminds me, the bathrooms in the cabins (at least our's) didn't come w/a bathtub b/c of this fact I'm assuming...disappointing. While the cabins are a lovely Japanese style, this place is really pricey I felt for what you get or that matter do not. Even more unfortunate, my husband paid up front months in advance for two nights & we had to leave early b/c our toddler got sick. Of course they only lowered the rate, but we still were stuck paying the extra night. I did though, enjoy the massage & salt-rub treatment. I also appreciated that they welcome families, children, & pets! However, overall, they charge luxury prices for sub-par to nonexistent amenities. I'd recommend skipping the "lodging" & just booking spa/massage treatments.

Oh what to say about "the waves"? It's my home away from home to relax and spot for mountain yoga practice. A little pricey for locals but three hours in and out of the tub, cold plunge, and sauna is worth it. Great private tubs, massage therapists and staff. It's a truely magical space

If there were more stars to give I would give it all. Hubby and I had a fantastic time there. The food were exquisite and the lodging we had was private, cozy and comfortable. the in room mini fridge was stocked with home made granola, both reg and decaf coffee beans and fruit. you have to ground your own coffee for the French press. we had all our meals there and the restaurant offers sake flight. The massage was wonderful and included a 1 hour private soak in a smaller secluded bath a cold plunge pool and a private sauna. the communal bath was just as great.

I had an hour in a hot tub suite, which included a wet/dry sauna, a cooling room, a Japanese-style seated shower, an American-style rain shower, and a Japanese-style automated toilet. The inside part of the suite has a heated floor. The staff are very friendly and the soaking experience was very relaxing. Would recommend.

So amazing! Hot pools out in the woods, and a massage room pretty much in the trees!

I went in September and Santa Fe was getting some rain and thunderstorms. The place was a bit hard to find at first because the google location was incorrect (but Ten Thousand Waves does know about this and indicate it on their website).

You enter and check in through a main gift shop area. Here you get a kimono-type robe (which was a little cold for the weather) and some slippers. The main outdoor water features are co-ed, so bathing suits are required. Some patrons complain about this (???), but I think it's great! Since the weather was cold, the steam rising off the pools was really therapeutic and wonderful. The pools were also very pleasant as it started to rain. Nature was all around us: rain, trees, mountains, some lightning in the distance.

We also reserved a massage, which the staff considerately arranged for us to have together. When our appointment came, they walked us down a winding gravel path to a small little cabin surrounded by tall trees. Not only was the massage amazing, but the huge windows in the cabin made it feel like we were in the trees.

After our day at the spa, we went to the restaurant and tried the omakase menu. This was a perfect way to complete the day! Little tastes of a bunch of yummy things, and some sake to go with. The spa/hotel also has a shuttle driver who will drive you to your car, which turned out to be really nice because the gravel parking lot had gotten fairly muddy since when we had first arrived.

I have been to Ten Thousand Waves many times before. This time I got the Waterfall tub with the sauna and a facial. The tub and sauna was great and it also included a cold plunge if you got too hot. The Japanese facial was the highlight. Rachel was the one who did it and it was amazing. I felt very relaxed and everything went smoothly and the way my face looked was incredible. I definitely bought the products she used. Very pricey but worth it and it will last a long time.

Warning: don t buy any clothing from the store. You can t try it on and you can t return or exchange it. In response to the owner: The signs say you can't try things on, they don't say no returns or exchanges. Everyone knows that Covid is rarely, if ever, transmitted via surface area and never from clothing. And most other stores in the states allow for sizes exchanges.

there are few places that I dream of coming back to more than Ten Thousand Waves. Spam treatments, sauna, hot tubs, cold plunges, communal and private pools, fine dining and amazing sunsets. Priceless.

This place is a jewel in the city of Santa Fe. Very clean, well-decorated, small and quiet. I can see that they really concentrated on increasing user satisfaction by acconmidating water fountain, outdoor shower, and sauna to every pool. There is a sleep room(glass-walled on two sides) that I frequently go to take a nap.

My favorite place to visit on the first day, every time I go to Santa Fe. Very much like a Japanese onsen. Great communal hot tub and cold plunge, excellent sauna, foot soaking area, meditation room, outstanding izakaya restaurant next door, and really great spa treatments (especially the shiatsu massage.

We never miss an opportunity to visit Ten Thousand Waves when we're in Santa Fe. It's an authentic Japanese spa in a stunning location with some of the best spa services I've ever experienced. But it's not just for tourists. It's very much got a local vibe because the public pool is open to everyone, and there is always a diverse mix of visitors. Ten Thousand Waves is a calm, relaxing way to begin or end your visit to Santa Fe.

A can't miss spot on your Santa Fe itinerary! We opted for evening appointments with a private hot tub under the stars followed by massages and salt treatments. From the moment we entered, the staff was friendly and accommodating.

Staying at ten thousand waves was the best experience!!! The customer service is gold standard!!! Nancy really helped us out in a pinch and we couldn t be more grateful! We booked the ichiban tubs that they nicknamed the two teacups. It was such nice time! We got to shower like the Japanese people did back in the day. Bucket and seat - then we split our time in the sauna. I never felt so relaxed and rested after soaking! The rooms were so cozy! I love the heated floor in the rooms. We dined at the restaurant and everything was pretty good! It all came out super fast and we purchased a bottle of sake to enjoy in our room! It was 5+++ stars in my book and we can t wait to come back and visit!!!

The public onsen and massages are both excellent a...

The public onsen and massages are both excellent and reasonably priced, but be warned that this place has predatory pricing for everything else. All drinks and sandwiches in the a la carte fridge are without price tags and some of them were over $9 for a bottled drink. The restaurant had good service, but the portions are exceptionally small and unlike an authentic Izakaya there was no complimentary rice or salad, which the cynic in me thinks is to encourage ordering more expensive ($15-30) small plates. Basic drinks like matcha green tea are $4.50. Even the expensive resorts from Marriott don't charge this much for so little. We ultimately left feeling disappointed and ripped off, and are now eating at an Applebee's to make up for our hunger, but at least our bodies are exceptionally well relaxed.

Edit: the reply below dodges the issue. Prices are high and unmarked. I don't care how much nutrients are in a drink, that doesn't change the surprise pricing. And I know what an Izakaya is; I LIVE in Yokosuka, Kanagawa, Japan. The wagyu beef here is thick, marbled and tasty, not like the small number of super thin pieces Ten Thousand Waves had on their hot rock. If anything 10k Waves' beef reminded me of the super thin beef tongue that Gyu-Kaku (a great yaki-niku chain) gives out as a starter dish.

One of the most beautiful spas in the world. The organic feel of the spaces and stunning natural setting combined with a palpable laid back vibe, make this one of the most unique "spa" experiences you'll ever have. Artisanal beauty and impeccable craftsmanship is woven into every aspect of the spa, with a special blend of eclectic elements and refined details. There really is no place like 10,000 Waves.

Full disclosure, I worked at 10,000 Waves for 10 years in the 80's and 90's, but my review is more informed than biased. Today I develop spas and wellness centers as an international consultant and operator and having worked around the globe I can definitively day that 10,000 Waves is an experience that you will find no where else in the world.

Worth a visit.

All I can say is WOW! Amazing service. Facilities were some of the nicest I've ever seen. Spring for the private soaking rooms, not that expensive and worth the privacy. Our room had private toilet, shower, sink, makeup ara sauna, nap area and soaking tub. There are plenty of communal soaking and relaxation areas of you want to enjoy on a budget. The common locker/restrooms were clean and provided everything for a good experience. After your services you have to try the onsite restaurant. Waitstaff is great. Menu is limited, but food is good. Top pick are the ribs. They are expensive, around $14 for three... but so worth it. The meat was falling of the bones and the flavor is beyond words. Plan on at least four hours for good relaxation at the baths and lunch. Best part, it's literally only 10 mins from downtown Santa Fe.

This is such an incredible space. Ten thousand waves has everything you could look for in a spa for very reasonable prices. All the negative reviews are around policy changes that don't really affect tourists like myself.

The staff kept conversing about me and my family while at the shop, judgmental comments about how we were about browsing They are just looking at prices, they (condescending speaking) are not going to buy anything as we kept looking, a staff member approached us to give customer service but I heard the staff acussing of shoplifting. This goes back to making judgement based on our physical appearance, so wrong and unconstitutional. It didn t end there, the comments made through out (what was suppose to be a calming and soothing experience ) was a despicable one. The mens restroom is just another hook up spot for individuals with same-sex preferences.

Very nice place to pamper yourself. We rented a private area with large whirlpool & sauna four group of 6. Very nice treat. My massage therapist was good. The room was next to the walking path & kept hearing the landscapers & other guests chatting away so it wasn't really relaxing.

I m the second generation to come here: my dad used to visit back when he was a graduate student at St. John s and always raved about how incredible it was. I have to agree. Serene atmosphere and impeccably designed. Every member of the staff we have encountered are top notch, well mannered and professional. I recently got my very first prenatal massage here and it was such a relief to my aching body. Will continue to return every time I m in Santa Fe and who knows, maybe we ll make it 3+ generations of happy patrons :)

My husband and I had a wonderful time here and we also brought our dog with us as well! We had a private bath while we were there and I had a massage with Danielle and it was amazing, one of the best massages I have ever had! Overall we had an amazing time and received great service. Hopefully we can visit again soon!

My wife made reservations for us to enjoy lunch at their restaurant. Due to current state Covid restrictions, dinning is only allowed outdoors, so they built a lovely wooden roof pavilion with slat side walls. Heaters were everywhere along with several fireplaces burning fragrant Pinon wood. The setting couldn't have been better given the circumstances. But best of all was the service and delicious food. If you are visiting Santa Fe and ready for a very special meal put Ten Thousand Waves on your list.

This is a transcendent Japanese spa experience. Kind, friendly and attentive service; knowledgeable, professional and caring masseuses; serenely beautiful, secluded, forested mountain setting; ecologically mindful; clean and well maintained. The baths are relaxing and open to their natural surroundings while still maintaining privacy. The lodging invokes the same peaceful tranquility with a variety of themed rooms that are like small cottages hidden in a magic forest. I love climbing up the lanterned paths through the trees, in just my kimono and sandals to the hot baths. The izakaya style restaurant, Izanami, is a brilliant and top-notch addition to the grounds. I've been coming here for 20 years and with each visit, they've made it more enjoyable, more wondrous and harder to say goodbye to. A gorgeous spa, in a lovely forest, in an enchanted land.

The light switch for our tub area would not turn off. This ruined the atmosphere of my entire experience. When I told the front desk about it, they shrugged it off like they did not care. Two people cost close to 100 dollars for an hour. Everything should work perfect. They are starting to get a little ghetto for way to much money.

My boyfriend and I went to the spa today and we were looking forward to seeing the new renovations! We would frequent this place often.

We sign in, looking forward to the spa, and you can imagine our surprise when we are asked if we brought swimsuits... no? New policy is that everyone must wear trunks. Being nude is the main reason we come to this place. In fact, you will never know relaxation until you can lay in the snow and enter a hottub/sauna whenever you please. Relaxing with nature was what they sold us, but no longer.

But, you have to make the best of each situation or you will end up hating life. We tried it out.

We entered the communal bath and the slice of heaven was gone. The new design is very clean and modern. So much in fact, that it removed the feeling of nature. Symmetrical images in the fencing and the tile of the new, giant hottub, although nice looking, did not fit the "nature" they are trying to sell.

The first thing I do is enter the sauna! My favorite place because should be quiet and peaceful while your body lets stress melt away. The new sauna has nice, big windows that let in A LOT of sunlight! So much, you cannot even close your eyes to get away from the light. And the white titles bounce the sunlight all over. Trying to relax with light shinning into your eyes doesn't work. Then, because the dual entrance doors are in front of each other, every time someone entered or exited the sauna, a bolt of blinding light enters. You can also hear all the noises of outside (which I will explain later). It almost seems like the new swimsuit requirement attracts a band of disrespectful individuals. You will find, over and over, people entering the sauna, pouring water onto the hot rocks (it is considered respectful to ask the members of the sauna before doing this) and then leaving because they realize it is too hot for them! People also talk/yell in the sauna. There is no more "quiet speaking" even if there is a sign for it. There is a cold shower outside and every time someone uses it, there is a large bellow in the sauna. The heaters in the sauna also make noise, they might have always done this, but since every part of my was being bothered by my surroundings, I noticed it.

I think the light issue could be fixed by putting window tint on the windows and moving one door so light cannot come through the first and second entrance. Also, the small details of the sauna are removed. There was once beautiful light covers with full sticks ,bending in natural ways, as a decorative cover. Now, there is some sort of half bamboo or man-made look-a-like to give a symmetrical appearance. I don't like it as much.

The hottub, is large and not very deep. There were kids playing in it with bath toys. Straight couples sitting on top of each other, mimicking missionary style, and loud conversations everywhere. They were all people with kids who wanted to have a "fun spa day (pool party)", but not actually go to the spa and relax. The water features are also WAY too loud for it to be peaceful. The waterfall dumps into the hottub, even when nobody is using it for the back massage, and the filtering system spills out of the tub into drains, but sounds like a dam! Even if there were no other people, finding peace would be hard.

My boyfriend went to their relaxing room, what a mistake. A family was in there with their kids, who were running around and had all the blankets scattered over the floor.

I would say the experience was ridiculous. This is no longer a spa, but a parents hangout.

*Also, I find it extremely unfair that women pay the same price to enter, but have an optional Women's tub which they can be nude in. Men have no such option unless they pay for a private tub.

Help others know what to expect. Yeah. Expect that this place is world class without world class prices. It's true. But, considering what I've said, expect to meet up with world class winners and losers in the main hot tub.

My partner and I booked the Ichiban Suite and were totally blown away. It was such an amazing experience to sit in the hot tubs outside with the cool breeze gently blowing. We sat in the tubs looking up at the blue sky. Very relaxing. We loved it.

After our time in the hot tub we had dinner at Izanami. The food was delicious and flavors quite delicate. We ordered the omakase and sake pairing flight. Comparatively speaking we've had better omakase at other Japanese restaurants, however, we realize the locale of this restaurant affected it's options. Still, delicious flavors, beautiful presentation and kind service.

I was only there for dinner. Great views and the restaurant had nice decor. Bathrooms were very Japanese style. The menu was decent and is a new take on Japanese food, virtually nothing you would expect from a traditional Japanese restaurant. Would recommend if you are looking for something new, but would not be a good place for traditional Japanese food. Still tasty nonetheless. Extensive sake menu.

We stayed here for my birthday last week and, overall, the experience left something to be desired. The spa services themselves were wonderful, as were the baths, and the food at Izanami. But each time we interacted with staff we were left feeling less than, and that lack of customer service really made the price tag feel like a stinger.

We stayed 2 nights in two different rooms. Both rooms had old lumpy mattress. For $300+ a night (not including spa, food, fees etc) we expect to sleep in quality bed. The second room we stayed in had a weird strip of lights under the cabinet that we could not turn off. By the time we realized that this was going to be a problem, it was after office hours (8:30) and only had an emergency phone number to call. This didn t feel like an emergency we wanted to deal with so had to toss and turn all night with this bright glow next to our heads.

As for the spa; we both got a series of spa services that were presented as packages, the services themselves were great but each time one finished they would just drop us off in the spa lobby and no one would tell you if you had another service coming up unless you walked up to the host stand each time. It wasn t until after my
Services that i realizes they completely forgot about one of them, and when i asked the front desk about it i was told oh yeah you did, we talked to the spa and they said you did . To which i responded, no i think i would remember a salt scrub but it s fine bc i really enjoyed my services. They called back and made some excuse about them switching my service around but did not offer any discount or attempt to make up for it.

Honestly the setting is beautiful and very peaceful, but for how much you spend it s so important to make your customers feel cared for. All in all just come for the spa services and get ready to deal with some sassy staff in trade for a beautiful soak.

The baths at Ten Thousand Waves are excellent. My favorites are the Waterfall, Shoji, and Ichiban... all for different reasons. The Waterfall is huge with a real feeling of being outdoors surrounded by trees. Shoji is a nice square bath with a view up the mountain through the fence. Ichiban has two separate individual baths, a cooling bed, and a private, seated shower area and sauna.

At the Spa, the Master's Massage have been excellent. I've had 5 or 6 of these treatments. Each time the treatment is different, but the results the same. The therapist finds tension that I didn't know I had

10 minutes from old town Santa Fe, we were in our own private world with everything dedicated to our relaxation and decompression. Time slowed and provided a wonderful place to enjoy a novel zen-like environment with the serene spa baths and treatments, comfortable lodging and wonderful paths to wander and appreciate the pinyon scented air. Can't wait until I am back!

We were overnight guests and everything was just amazing. The spas were hot and relaxing, the kimonos were adequate in keeping us warm enough to get to the baths, and the free shuttle for us let us get safely back to our room.

The staff were all very polite and helpful with any questions or concerns we may have had and there were plenty. This goes for all the staff - front desk, spa, the restaurant, security and even the maintenance staff.

The restaurant food was great! The wagyu burger and ramen at lunch were fantastic. The fried tofu was a favorite of ours and the grilled rice ball was just as delicious. Let's not forget their sake collection. Only money kept me from wanting them all.

And our room had all of the amenities! Wifi, breakfast, an assortment of teas, fruits, granola, everything. You could live there if you were rich. But the best part was the toilet. Heated seats, automated lids, rear and front water cleaning, a dryer... I would have never gotten off if they had an outlet to charge my phone.

20/10 would stay again (if I didn't live 2000 miles away)!

We had the most wonderful stay at Ten Thousand Waves in early January. The room was perfect. The staff was delightful. Both private baths that we reserved and the Grand Bath was a relaxing experience. We also enjoyed dinner at the restaurant and were impressed with the quality of food and amazing presentation. We cannot wait to book our next stay.
