In theory this is a great hub for the Northeast, especially for those of us who want to go further afield than Tenerife. In execution though- wow. Unbelievably rude staff and an astonishingly inefficient security process.

It is a small airport, there is only a 30 minutes free wifi in the entrance of the airport when you arrive you should walk a little to get the signal. I do not recommend to use Uber because there are not so many drivers in this area. Actually, I have a terrible experiment with lost of my luggage, they did not tell me my rights and I spend 5 days as an international student without my clothes and medicine. I have the right to buy essential things and get compensation

Small airport and there is internet for only 30 minutes, when you arrive you must walk to the entrance because the internet signal is weak. I do not recommend using Uber because there are no drivers in the area.
I have a bad experience with them as my bag is lost and they did not tell me where it is and when I will receive it until they did not tell me about my rights because I have the right to buy the basics and to keep the bills in bulk compensation.
I spent five days without my clothes and medicines!

A decent no-frills airport. It takes only a few minutes to get airside. Amenities are basic but as expected given the few flights. So-called 'experienced travellers' should know better than to expect more! It takes just an hour or so to get to Schipol, where you can shop to your heart's content (if that's what you crave). You're in and out of the place with a minimum of fuss. No that's what frequent travellers really want!

This is the worst airport I've ever been to, and I've done a lot of travelling. Every single niggling detail is clamped down on hard at check-in and security, the place is tiny and the resources and duty free are non existent. In addition, you have an additional payment just before security for the privilege of using this awful place. Newcastle airport is just up the road. If you can avoid flying from here, then don't fly from here.

Convenient local airport. Very easy for anyone in the County Durham/Teesside/North Yorkshire region.
Parking is right in front of the terminal with plenty of spaces. Once inside, its quick and easy to check-in and pass through security to the gates where a small shop, bar and business lounge awaits. On my return, I was in my car within 10 minutes of landing.

Very nice and helpful staff. To pay a tax of 6 pounds before leaving. The machines where you pay the tax do not give change, and only accept coins or credit cards. No banknotes. Overall small airport nothing to add

Great little airport, arrived from Amsterdam and was walking out of the terminal with my bags about 5 mins later. No charge for car drop offs. Shame there aren't more flights to other locations - hopefully an LHR link someday soon.

The airport is just some 15-20 minutes from Darlington. The check in and security checks are amazingly smooth.
Yes, at the moment, there are not many connections and yes, you need to pay the price of a pint to use the airport, but I would rather fly from a friendly place like Teeside airport than a crowded, unfriendly place such as the big airports.

Rude and obnoxious security staff. Got 'interrogated' for 5 minutes on the way back from a business trip. I understand the need for security and totally agree with it, but some of the questioning was intrusive and unnecessary.

overall an ok airport.. local businesses suffer due to the management company & greed "yes its going to close down sooner rather then later"

its managed to hold now the 2nd airshow... which was ok except for the torrential rain... its still very limited.

holiday makers well to get flights from this airport your incredibly limited as to where to fly.. compared to 15-20yrs ago this airport is a ghost town "which is a huge pitty!" The airport does have massive issues, for a local business which has been around these parts for many yrs.. I'd support it, however expect it to be gone turned into housing & an industrial area in yrs to come!! :(

Been through this airport and Newcastle (NCL) several times. I have mixed feelings about Teeside (MME) and generally prefer NCL, however I will use this airport if it is significantly cheaper, which has been the case when I have used it previously.

PROS:
1) Arrival from a non UK country (Amsterdam) is relatively fast compared to the messy system of NCL; though I think this is due in part to the smaller planes at Teeside carrying nearly half the passengers as the larger planes that go to Newcastle: less passengers to process.
2) No parking fee for the first 3 hours. In a way this makes up a bit for the 6 pound facility fee that is charged.
CONS:
1) Security is abysmal. I travel a lot, all over the world, and this is the the only airport I've ever been to where I had to empty anything that was even sort of electronic (including cables) from my bags? As if this wasn't enough, security emptied my bags almost completely anyway! They then proceeded to slowly swab many things and even re-scanned my bags! I have to wonder if they did this because they were bored? Sure, not a lot of passengers fly through this airport but the excessive screening was utterly unpleasant. I wouldn't say boarding is much faster than going to NCL due to the excessively slow screening of security at MME. It seems I'm not alone as others have mentioned the slow queues/poor experiences through security.
2) As mentioned, the 6p facility fee. It's odd they couldn't build it into the cost of the ticket and one has to go out of their way to pay this fee. It's apparently going away under the new pubic ownership but as of today is still being implemented (March 14, 2019).

If you call Aberdeen, International then yes, it's Durham Tees Valley International. Such a shame. I remember as a small boy my father bringing me here to see the Red Arrows. Peel Group and the local councils should be prosecuted for what they have allowed to happen to this once Great North Airport.

1. Reminiscent of a ghost town.

1. Reminiscent of a ghost town.
2. Void of atmosphere.
3. Have to pay 6 yes 6 pounds for the privilege of going through the airport, pathetic! No other airport does this I know of.
4. Over zealous at the security , if you get picked on it half an hour of picking through your luggage and swabbing for drugs , get real Red alert has been down graded to amber. No other airports are as bad as this squad , if they had more than 1 flight a day they would be in trouble , obviously have to prove there existence .
5. No decent eating facility when through to departures and reminiscent this time of the worst doctors waiting room full of sad looking people because they have to use this airport and pay for the privilege.
6. Excellent feeling though when front wheel lifts off the tarmac !!

This convienent little airport was all id use in the past when our kids were young.mainly for our regular trips to majorca (No longer available sadly ). 20 minutes down the road to, saving the planet.
For many years now it has been in limbo..will it shut .wont it shut? well if the owners have their way it will soon enough..
Never had any trouble in this airport in the past, (if we needed calpol, we would have taken it with us.)
Take packed lunches too, if your a tight wad..cheap parking in the St George Hotel, 2 mins from check in.
Still have fairs lloyds travel /cleveland holidays inside the airport doing good reasonable holidays , friendly staff, free parking for clients.
Wish i could turn back the clock , but i cant.

From Darlington and love and am loyal to the north east. My patients have finally ran out with Peel. I am one of the loyal ones who will use the airport to travel worldwide and is prepared to make the hop via Holland with K.L.M. The clueless owners (Peel) don't know how to run an airport. In the last 18 months i've used it twice to go to Italy and Peru (via Holland). I was going to use it to go to Ibiza next May but the Thomson flights have been axed. I was also going to use it next February to go to Hungary. I'm now going to both from Newcastle Airport. Peel clearly don't want to use it as an airport. Can someone please buy it who wants to use it as an airport and put some flights on for the people of Darligton, Stockton, Middlesbrough, Yarm and beyond. Don't let idiots like Peel close this the same way they closed Sheffield City Airport.

I recall seeing Concorde take off and land at the Teesside Airshow back in 1986 as well as a myriad of other fighter planes. Even Air Force One graced the runway at one point. Even in the early 90s, chances are if you were going on holiday, you'd be flying from here if you were local. Fast forward to 2014 and I was business travelling to the Netherlands and thought I fancied flying from Teesside once more. I kinda wish I hadn't. It was an abysmal experience. Pretty sad to witness the decline of this once-great local airport.

Has the potential to be a great airport, if only the Peel Group would sell it to someone who knows what they are doing! From the start we had the renaming fiasco; it is still known as Teesside airport throughout Europe. Then they drive airlines away (by demanding ridiculous landing fees?) The loss of the daily flights to London was just the start, only last week they told Thompsons they no longer wanted their business. What is their business plan for the airport, are they intent on turning it into a frieght only airport or will they try to sell the land for housing?
The final death knell will be when they lose the daily KLM flights to Amsterdam.
A sad loss for the people of ''Teesside''! but will they be concerned in ''Durham''?
hardley, after all their local airport is Newcastle!
I agree with other postings here, it is only a matter of time before they announce the closure of the airport!

Not strictly a 'visitor experience' as I attended the annual Remembrance Day service at the Royal Canadian Air Force memorial , the airfield being theformer military airfield RAF Middleton St George.
The passenger terminal building is undergoing a huge development and taking advantage of the present COVID situation to get work done .
My only complaint cum suggestion would be to repaint the exit arrows on the car park tarmac to make it easier to find the exit barrier !

A few to go through security?? It s like some kind of third world coontry.... 30 years ago!
This airport could have been a little gem, instead it has been run down by the current owners to the poo t that you have to pay for the privilege of using it. Like the fares aren t enough. But it s this third world approach that really annoys me. They call it a passenger facility fee, but the facilities are rubbish, the toilets aren t clean and the queue to get through an archaic security system, jeez don t even go there!

It is a total disgrace the way the owners have destroyed this once great regional airport.

It should be thriving and providing a major boost to the local economy through both charter (holiday) and scheduled flights. There are 10s of 1000s of people who now have to travel to Newcastle and Leeds (the latter with poor access roads) as there is no longer an option via Teesside. The various Councils also have a lot to answer for in its downfall including the disastrous name change which signalled the downward spiral

It should be ceased from all associated parties and returned to a proper regional airport serving the north east population.

As it stands it is now mostly a caravan storage site - pathetic.

Airport is becoming better then it was. The 6 pound fee is well spend in the departure hall but the staff is still unpleasant and are not happy to help you. The fee machine was not working so I contacted someone and needed to wait 35 min for someone coming to me with a machine. She was unfriendly, yelled at me that it was NOT het problem! If it is possible use another airport and skip this one :)
