Amazing institution. The 1840 gallery is one of the finest displays in the world with several iconic paintings such as Ophelia or Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose. It's also free to enter and considerably quieter than its sister museum (the Tate Modern).
I sadly timed the visit poorly, missing my fav artists exhibiting at this marvelous institution. A must!
Tate Commission (The Asset Strippers) very good. The Blake opaque to non-fans. The cafe cake massively overpriced. The volume of exhibition merchandise depressing and devaluing even a hard to like artist.
5-star from the outside! Sadly Tate is closed as we're in pandemic mode. Looking great in the summer sun
Both Tate Modern and Britain feel differently! So it's free, so be sure to go !!
It's always worth a visit to the Tate, if you can don't go in the weekend and in the afternoon when also the member's room is packed
If you like classic pieces of art, you came to the right place. They have some special exhibitions which you would have to pay for, but the majority of artwork is free to see for everyone. They currently have the great works of William Turner :-)
Nice place. I bit confuse some times. Lovely exhibition of William Blake
A real gem. Such a lovely gallery with an amazing new members area.
Great Museum!
I guess that it is not so popular because it's somewhat further away from the more touristic area, but it is as good as all the more popular ones.
I find it more compact than the other and more "linear" to transverse all its pieces.
The collection of Turner painting is really good and the description gives a clear background of the artist moment.
The Museum has plenty facilities to support all its visitors.
I recommend it to anyone looking to satiate your hunger for British classical art pieces.
It was such a great experience to feel the Vincent Van Gogh's artpieces. Great air condotioning for a scorching weather but it was a little difficult to find my way in the building
Tate Britain is a fascinating museum (and a beautiful building) where curators try desperately to insert Britain into the European and global art narrative --many times to a comedic degree. Take the latest Van Gogh exhibit as an example: the display focuses tremendously on the few years that the artist spent in London working as a teenager, implying, almost, that some of Van Gogh's master pieces were only possible thanks to the muses of the Thames river.
The best museum for British art, great permanent collection and amazing exhibitions
Less crowded than its younger sister - that's a good thing - with a great collection of art and well presented exhibitions. Good for browsing. Don't miss the restaurant with the Whistler murals or a quiet drink in the outdoor courtyard
Must see contemporary art collection and David Hockey retrospective until end of May 2017.
Tate Britain is a great museum, a tourist may think it looks a little off the beaten track but it is definitely worth a visit. They have a real range of artworks from classical paintings to changing modern exhibitions. The building itself is really nice and it's an opportunity to get away a little from the hustle and bustle of some of the other tourist destinations. You can get a boat between here and Tate Modern which is a nice thing to do.
Visited on a evening as part of the "Late at the Tate" series which was great. Free entry is also amazing
Always a great place to pass some time and appreciate some incredible art.
Nice nice place where I will definitely come back. Beautiful varied works. Easily accessible, 5 minutes from the underground (Pimlico).
Lovers of beautiful paintings will enjoy, Turner fascinated me. Free admission.
Interesting place, free entrance. Good place to visit. Plenty of other museum and sighseeing around. Close to Thames.
Since the building is worth going ... the stairs are an additional spectacle
Great gallery. One of the best in rhe world. I.wish I could visit more offen. I've seen the Edward Bourne Jones exibition which was unfogetable, beautiful and one of a kind..
Superb collection. The turner rooms are magnificent.
Love this place, their masterpiece art collection is huge and is what you need to calm your day.
Great Hockney exhibition but the exhibitions are pricey if your are not a member
Don't miss it if you are traveling in London and visit it regularly if you live in London
British art across 300+ years. Some of the paintings are simply breathtaking, and the building itself is a wonderful space. Easy to miss some rooms, though, so take your time.
And do make sure you get to the Turner, Constable and Blake rooms - I was surprised by just how far ahead of their times their works are.
Excellent facilities and a beautiful collection of pieces on display. Wish I could've spent longer there.
The place to be in Contemporary Art with an incredible DJ set on night ! Nevertheless, there was a lack of diversity among the visitors !
If you are an art lover absolutely yes.
As usual though the permanent collection is totally Western male dominated
First time there very good exhibition, lovely cafe/ restaurant.
Great and free! Array of art work from 1500 to modern. Thank you for a great exhibition. Building is beautiful
Amazing collection of British art work. It includes an exhaustive array of Turner's work as well as other popular pieces.
The yellow room installation got our group talking. Unfortunately, we waited quite a while for our pre booked tickets.
A solid exhibition of multiple artists. Some masters some not. Cecilia Paul works as a master was a revelation to me.
Fabulous building got completely lost in the majesty of this place one day is not enough
Van Gogh and Don McCullin exhibitions are fantastic in very different ways!
So many projects running, so many fresh new artists.
Magnificent exhibition of Impressionist paintings, assembled from the four corners of the world. Depictions of the turmoil and horrors of the Franco-Prussian war are in stark contrast to Monet's introspective views of the Houses of Parliament, languishing in the fog alongside the river Thames.
Best of museums fantastic free collections loved the Freud and Bacon
An amazing and extensive exhibition of William Blake's work, beautifully presented.
One of the greatest places in the world to go without having to pay to see the main collection
Always interesting exhibits and exquisite building.
Really complete museum. Works from every historical period and representative for the UK, being free I highly recommend it.
Rarely catch up with Van Gogh's special exhibition, experience the subway without air conditioning, patiently ask and navigate down to Knight. On the last day of the trip, continue reading history.
Excellent collection of British art, with occasional special exhibitions.
Such an eclectic gathering of art. A very nice surprise.
Just amazing place to visit. There is always something that I've not seen before and that is just in the free galleries. Not to mention the special exhibitions, for which there is a charge.
Then there is the tea lounge which is worth a visit for tea and cake or something cooked. I haven't visited the restaurant, which to be honest looks a bit out of my comfort zone. I'm sure it would be fine if it's your sort of thing.
All in all, worth a visit if you're interested in art or just visiting.
Very bright, busy and always great value even for the free exhibition...
Interesting Burnes-jones exhibition, good for Christmas...myth and legends themes....but more intriging is his experimental mark making techniques and
An unexpected place for ever original exhibitions! Do not hesitate to take the boat to cross the Thames
Great collection of British art, with organized and friendly staff. What is a pity is that poorly designed lighting, the highest frames can hardly be seen by the reflection of fluorescent lights.
Came for the Van Gogh exhibition. The exhibition was incorrectly described since at least 1/3 of the pictures were not by him. The rooms were unbearably hot and despite timed entrances it was too busy to enjoy.
