The pictures are beautiful. The equestrian therapy is enticing. Everything sounds perfect. The thing is, there are no pictures of the women's housing, which is less than adequate. The staff act like drill sergeants instead of caring individuals. I chose to come here, and left 36 hours later (by the grace of God) bc they tried to tell me I couldn't make a phone call, but I finally did. If you want to go to prison, just go here. They did NOTHING for me. They set me back in my therapy, and thank God I picked a different Avenue that actually treated me like a human being and helped me recover. You get to be around horses, off sight, once a week. Nothing at this place is good. If you want help, go to Fairbanks in Indy. They care and treat you like a human being, for a fraction of the cost. A girl in my room my only night there was going through heroin withdrawal, and they did nothing. No meds or anything. Just let her suffer. I beg you, do not choose this place! I owed them $900 after 36 hours, when I owed Fairbanks $0 for my 8 day stay. I finished treatment at Fairbanks (3 additional weeks) for only slightly more than my visit to Tara.

I came to Tara in January of 2019. I had no idea it was going to the the best decision I had made more for myself. When I left Tara I was definitely not the same person I was when I came thru those doors. Change is scary and uncomfortable but it can be pretty awesome too!!! Since leaving Tara I have moved to a new place, made new friends and am doing new things sober. My life is better than I thought it ever would be again. I celebrated 6 mos clean and sober recently. It s all because of Tara. It changed my life!!! The people and their program is absolutely amazing!! They really do care!! I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to be there.

Was a great first step in my recovery. The staff is awesome. Once we (as a group) felt the intense weight of our individual situations soften, we were able to laugh at many things. Mostly at ourselves. I remember that the most. Just do it. If you need help beyond your own ability to stay sober, you will be shown love even if you don't love yourself. Shout out to Asa, the barber?

My 18 year old son went into Tara for his first tr...

My 18 year old son went into Tara for his first treatment of substance abuse and depression. After two weeks, Tara kicked him out because he had had words with a middle-aged patient. My son indicated that this guy and another had bullied him from the start. My son indicates that he had tried to mend fences with the other person, but that the other guy wasn t having any of it. As a teenager, my kid was still in the high school mindset that you don t air every small issue with authority. Apparently this older guy had been undermining him from the get go, working the politics of the facility. I m guessing the older guy was a repeat customer as well.
Barb from Tara called me at 8:00 in the morning to tell me that my son needed to be picked up that day. She had not spoken to my son to get his side at all. He was teenage lippy with someone and they booted him. So this severely depressed, addicted kid is now struggling with the notion that he can t even do treatment right. Those were his tearful words to me. Heartbreaking.
I asked about a direct transfer to another program. Tara said they would speak to the other program they recommended, but they basically did nothing. They discharged him and wanted done with it. (If you think these people really care about the patients, I think you are mistaken.)
As an aside, they are also not terribly organized. Intake people didn t seem to know what they were doing. I was promised multiple calls on insurance issues, and had to call back repeatedly to get any answers.
The place also reeks of smoke. Everybody seems to smoke, and they sell cigarettes there to anyone that wants to buy them. Patients also have to buy phone cards. (I mean, c mon, this is 2015. Who charges for long distance anymore?)
If you are looking for a treatment program for addiction, and you or your loved one are already a smoker, and there are no other underlying issues (if that is ever the case), maybe Tara will be fine for you. In our case, it was a disaster. Not recommended at all. If I had the option to give zero stars, I would.

I would strongly recommend that anyone unwilling or unable to move into a halfway house following completing treatment at TARA to look elsewhere. This is especially true if you are facing current criminal charges.

Transitioning to a halfway house after completing treatment at TARA was never mentioned to me until the 2nd week of treatment, and I was very clear that a halfway house was not a viable option for me due to my career and having custody of my daughter. Despite this, I was still heavily pressured to apply to halfway houses on a daily basis and I was essentially made to feel that relapse was inevitable for me if I didn't move into one. The worst part is that the 'completion letter', that I asked them to fax to my attorney and the court concluded by stating that I wasn't complying with TARA's recommendation to enroll in a halfway house, despite knowing I could not and would not be doing so two weeks prior. As a result of this letter, and my inability to move into a halfway house, my legal issues have been delayed and have become much more complicated, rather than mitigated. Due to the gravity of the situation I was facing, the completion letter and the wording used was somewhat passive aggressive, extremely unprofessional, and bordered on malicious and negligent. I was completely blind sided and horrified when I got to court and learned what my completion letter said. If you are extraordinarily religious and prepared to put your life on hold for 3-6 months, TARA may be a viable treatment for you, hence the two star rating rather than one.

This is not a medical facilitie. If they start having hallucinations they sends them to the ER. By ambulance. Then they will not admit then back until they have gone threw another detox program. I was under the impression that they were capable of doing a detox. I had to take her home until i can get her into another progam someplace else. Im just frustrated. I guess I didnt understand everthing and I already payed them my entire decutable before they would take her. I know i will get it back it just put a strain on my family.
