Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad: Bridging the Talent Gap in Malaysia
Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) is a government agency established on 1 January 2011 under the Prime Minister’s Department to address the talent gap in Malaysia. The agency's mandate is to formulate and facilitate initiatives that align with the country's economic transformation agenda, which aims to make Malaysia a high-income nation by 2025.
The Malaysian government recognizes that talent is a critical factor in achieving sustainable economic growth and development. However, there has been a persistent shortage of skilled workers in certain sectors, such as engineering, science, technology, and mathematics (STEM). This shortage has hindered the country's progress towards becoming a developed nation.
To address this issue, TalentCorp was created with the goal of attracting and retaining top talent both locally and abroad. The agency works closely with various stakeholders such as employers, educational institutions, professional bodies, industry associations as well as other government agencies to develop policies and programs that support talent development.
One of TalentCorp's flagship programs is MyProCert (My Professional Certification), which aims to increase the number of certified professionals in key industries such as engineering and accounting. The program provides financial assistance for Malaysians who wish to obtain professional certifications recognized by international bodies.
Another initiative spearheaded by TalentCorp is Returning Expert Programme (REP), which encourages Malaysians who have gained valuable experience overseas to return home and contribute their expertise towards national development. REP offers various incentives such as tax exemptions on income earned from employment or business activities related to their area of expertise.
In addition to these programs, TalentCorp also collaborates with employers through its Industry Partnership Programme (IPP) aimed at addressing specific skills gaps within industries. IPP provides funding for training programs designed specifically for employees within an industry sector or company.
Furthermore,TalentCorp also plays an active role in promoting diversity & inclusion initiatives across all sectors including gender diversity through its Women@Work campaign aimed at increasing women’s participation rate in leadership positions across all sectors including STEM fields where women are traditionally underrepresented .
Overall,Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad has made significant strides towards bridging the talent gap in Malaysia since its inception ten years ago.Their efforts have contributed significantly towards creating more job opportunities for Malaysians while also attracting foreign talents into key areas where there are shortages . With continued support from stakeholders ,the agency will continue playing an important role towards making Malaysia a high-income nation by 2025 .
