E cellent fish, good sushi, service can be variable. Nevertheless i eat there when around.
Great little place with creative, high-quality sushi at a fair price. This is often our go-to for takeout, but we also enjoy the coziness of the restaurant itself.
Tuesday is a weird time for a business to be closed
Sushi delivery is a dicey game, but Takara nailed it tonight. Every dish was delicious and packed well for travel. Looking forward to dining at the restaurant.
The food here is excellent, my GF and I love to stop by for their lunch specials. Great selection of rolls and sashimi.
Very fresh and creative rolls. Definitely some of the best sushi I have had in the Castro.
Very simple, cheap sushi place that gets your fill of sushi.
Pretty space. Ok sushi. Nice drinks. Good for a date.
A definite favorite. Fresh sushi and great service! They are closed on Tuesdays so plan ahead. A must try!
Small sushi spot with quick service and fresh seafood.
Rice on the sushi tasted like it was made yesterday. Not great quality
Good sushi...I always feel the service is always rushed. Never feel like it s a place they want you to sit and enjoy your meal. It always seems like they want you to just eat and leave as quickly as possible.
The best sushi in this location are always delicious and fresh! Reasonable prices, fast service!
Mellow, unassuming, delicious neighborhood sushi spot. The aji nigiri is bright, fresh perfection and the Tokyo roll is awesome.
The sushi was amazing! Will definitely go again and recommend to friends.
Great local sushi place in the Castro. Lovely fish and atmosphere.
My go to place for sushi in the Castro. Very good sushi and the staff is always very friendly.
Great atmosphere and pretty good sushi. Not the best but I still enjoy coming here and the price is great.
One of the best sushi restaurants in the neighborhood. Shishito pepper is the bomb!
Wonderful sushi place on 18th street. They give you a free plate of edamame when you sit down, and the service is fast and attentive. I enjoyed one of the special rolls, miso soup, and some sake. The mochi ice cream sampler (I picked green tea, mango, and strawberry) was a nice way to finish off the dinner.
My favorite local sushi joint. The volcano roll is the best. They are so friendly and have a great beer selection.
Love this place great sushi, and never too crowded :)
Best sushi in the Castro, for sure. They've got an excellent menu, and the preparation of their dishes feels very artful and authentic -- like you'd expect in a great Japantown restaurant.
Amazing sushi, rice is exceptional. Customer service could be improved, long waits to be waited on...even if you are the only table.
Delicious sushi and sashimi options. Great house sake, too! I definitely enjoyed my experience here!
My favorite local sushi joint. Great food and service.
This casual neighbourhood sushi joint is a local fav, as evidenced by the number of regulars dining in and picking up to go orders. Polite staff and quick service.
We enjoyed our selections. My uni was excellent. The Beaux Roll, a signature maki, was packed with fresh fish and well constructed. My husband had barracuda sashimi and loved it. Sake is very popular here and they carry a decent variety.
Small - the dining room seats maybe 30 people max.
Creative and delicious sushi rolls and equally tasty sushi specials at prices so reasonable it's hard to believe it's in San Francisco. Both special rolls we ordered were fantastic and presented artistically, and the nigiri was excellent, the rice just flavorful enough to complement the fish. The place is tiny, but we got seats at the bar, which is nice. Only downside was the intermittent service. Certainly worth coming here for sushi if you're in the Castro.
All the staple sushi rolls were flavorful and consistent. Recommend the Banzai roll!
Takara is one of our go to place for Sushi in the city. They have one of the best happy hours as well. The food is all reasonably priced compared to other sushi places in the city. The place is small and only has a handful of tables.
Small spot that know how s to make some solid sushi. Good sushi, good service, good sake, great time. It s cozy, so it s definitely worth making a reservation to avoid waiting.
Excellent and very unusual selection of fish (you can see aji on the pic). Their lunch special (4 pieces of sushi, one roll and a miso soup) seems like great value at USD 14 given the quality (even if the pieces are a bit smaller). The space is small but cosy, and service is good. Takara never disappoints for a sushi fix in SF.
Not the best sushi I've ever had in San Francisco but I have to say that Takara held it's own. The servers were friendly considering the drunk messes that stumble in every so often. My friend and I had grabbed a couple drinks before stumbling in ourselves and the waitress treated us amazingly even helping us pick out the best rolls on the menu. The water was flowing and the free edamame helped us get some food in our systems quick.
I recommend a longer dinning experience for anyone next time, but this place dropped the food off quick so we could get in and out. Takara is a nice little gem in the Castro. I'll for sure be back.
A tried-and-true local neighborhood sushi spot with a simple, yet EXTREMELY satisfying take on both traditional sushi and sashimi, and most contemporary rolls and modern dishes.
So happy we ate here before a night out. I requested for sake don (salmon) which wasn t on the menu and they graciously made me a gorgeous and delicious plate. Space is cozy and they have multiple TVs so you can keep track of the score of the [insert team/college] game.
Our favorite place in the Castro for sushi! We come here weekly, and you should too!
The place needs a lil bit of work, pretty dated and worn out. I think prices are very high, and food is just ok, in my opinion.
Very good neighborhood sushi joint. Happy hour till 6pm offers many good choices under $5.00.
The sushi was great. You should call and reserve a table. Can be very busy but totally worth it!
The rolls fell a little flat. Service was good. Seaweed salad was frozen.
Awesome discovery.
Food was delicious, not pretentious and great at the same time. The stuff was super nice too. The daily selection was amazing and the fish was sooo fresh! Final mochis made our night!

The bento box lunch specials...still one of the best places in the castro.
Amaebi, hamachi kama, and uni nigiri were on flick. Never had a meal that disappointed here. Highly recommended if you're around in the Castro district. Check out the sake menu.
Skimpy portions and lower quality than Osaka. The waiter kept vanishing and got my order wrong. I wont be back. Hope Osaka opens again soon.
Best sushi I have ever had! For some reason this place isn't packed all the time. Great atmosphere.
Food is okay, the place smells - Wouldn t go there again. Nice service though!
Small, but one of the better sushi places in the neighborhood
Nice local sushi place. Not to miss: miso seabas, Salmon tasting, snow crab leg and truffle salt toro.
Always fresh and creative. Friendly service. Cozy space.
Good spot for fish. Nice selection, festive service, and fresh
Honestly one of our favorite sushi spots in the city. The fish is always fresh & the sushi selection great. I always have to get the garlic edamame & our last bite is always the lobster leg nigiri (on the specials board). We also love love love Betty, who remembered our names after our first visit and has treated us more as friends than customers (she always has a smile on her face & hugs to give out). Check them out ASAP!
I like coming here but it is very pricey. My favorite is Tsunami. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it..
Excellent food creativity prepared. Fast, attentive service. Reasonable prices and an informal atmosphere.
I'm glad there are take-out and delivery for sushis such as the Takara Sushi. I love the Californian rolls, too!
Betty, Trevor Mei Mei and all the staff are attentive and considerate. They remember your name and what you like. Try the Bruce roll. Make sure to ask them for bacon with it, although they will never let you have it ;-)
Such good sushi. Miss eating here. The takeout will have to do for now!
I am not a huge Sushi eater, however this place is excellent! I've only had the sunshine roll each time I've come here, but it's so good it makes me crave eating more sushi.
I like that i can see the ingredients on display and watch the chefs prepare my roll... you know you get what you're paying for.
The location is a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the two block walk up 18th (from Castro)
Worth eating. Although it is not Japanese, the waiters in Hahaha should all speak Chinese. Tricolor donburi is very delicious seafood ingredients ok. Eel rice is slightly greasy but the quality is online. The eggplant special is great. The oil-soaked eggplant + scallops and shrimp fill is medium-to-high. The consumption of two people is about 50-60
Lots of great vegetarian options here too, which is why I keep going back :)
