Beautiful view over the ice lake and the wadden. Too bad the restaurant was closed.

To say 'how beautiful it is here', well no. But it is a special place because of the history and therefore worth a stop. At the bottom of the monument is a roadside restaurant. Far from modern, but yes, it is also a historic location :-)

On the left the Ijsselmeer and on the right the Waddenmeer of the North Sea.

Nice photo location for views, there is also a lunchroom.

It is worthwhile to drive here also a slightly larger detour. Definitely worth seeing.

This amazing feat of engineering is well worth a visit, but wear something warm as it seems always to be very windy and cold - even when the sun is shining brightly!

Very interesting place from visiting. There are not many such hydrotechnical constructions in the world. There are two parking lots on the route with viewpoints.

I think a North Holland visitor should have seen that. Interesting information about dike construction.

A good place for a walk or a break in the journey by the Sea, a large car park for cars, an observation tower and a cafe open in the summer season.

A nice monument dedicated to the engineer Cornelis Lely who oversaw the construction of the Afsluitdijk. On one side is a small building with restaurant and access to the sea. There is a small bridge to cross the highway. On the other side you can find the statue of Lely and of a laborer, and a timeline with information about the project including current plans

Lookout tower was unfortunately closed. Nevertheless, it's nice to let your eyes wander over the sea at a motorway rest stop.

Beautiful man-made structure that divides nature a demonstration of exceptional engineering skills .

Beautiful but strangely only been to restaurant side. We will cross the bridge next time. When I looked at the panorama photo I saw a half brown lace shoe at the bench !? Trick?

If you are an engineer or history buff this place has meaning and is of interest but ... Apart from the statue to Lely and the stone setters it's really just nothing much in the middle of nothing, which is painfull to say as I am a civil engineer.

It's worth it

A tower to see the view and a bridge that crosses the highway. Interesting, probably with the sun it has another effect.

With such beautiful sunshine, it is a place to stay. Nice little gift shop with a very friendly saleswoman. In the cafe / restaurant you can excellently strengthen with "coffee and cake".

Must visit! A historic place in Dutch history and also memorable in our fight against water and for safety and sufficient food and drinking water.
If you are lucky the weather conditions will give your visit a plus. Because clear weather, storm, sunrise or calm: it has a direct influence on what you see.

The building itself is impressive, the landscape, rather boring to bleak ...

Spring there for the second time, will be happy to return

This was a very interesting place to visit! It was neat being on an actual dike that was holding back the sea. There is plenty of parking spaces here as well, and with the pedestrian bridge you can walk to either side of the dike.

If you pass through here, you should definitely treat yourself to the stopover.

On the IJsselmeer side there is a small restaurant with souvenir articles and a great view (indoor and outdoor courts!).

Anyone who consumes / buys something may use the toilet for free, all others for a fee.

Take a rest, always a nice place to stand still. Get a breath of fresh air and enjoy the sea and IJsselmeer.

Impress the dike of so many km in the middle of the sea, it's worth stopping

No two days are the same, there are always different weather conditions, so you get different photos every time.

Camping place very nice. Unfortunately because of Corona everything closed. But that's the same in other places.

To see quite interesting what all this is an effort. Nice way to stretch your legs and let your eyes wander. There is a lot to see with the watch tower.
