Hard to believe this long dike is entirely man made. Fresh water on one side, salt water on the other.

Visible maintenance needed, good place to stop and get some fresh air

Reasonable self-service restaurant but in a unique place.

Amazing piece of human labour! We had tea and apple tart in the Monument Cafe. Great display of history! If you are driving, I recommend you stopping there and have a look!!

It was a great experience to be surrounded by water.

A nice place to rest and to dine in the restaurant.
There you can also get information about the construction of the dam.

Great scenery and the restaurant its services are good, the place in general is fantastic I can always visit.

Definitely worth a visit to appreciate the marvel of the dijks! You can spend 30 minutes to an hour here admiring the views especially in a sunny day. Climb up the tower for a view or walk across the bridge.

Amazing impressions when driving a car "by the sea", a super lookout tower, a restaurant, a souvenir shop and some history.

Amazing place. The very ride on the dike is an amazing experience. The monument commemorating the architect C. Lely and the builders is very impressive. There is a pub, a viewpoint, and a place where you can buy various souvenirs.

Beautiful place with fantastic views over the IJsselmeer and the Waddenzee.

Beautifully located, with impressive ever changing views on Lake IJssel on one side and the Wadden Sea on the other side. Energetic place. Restaurant on Lake IJssel side.

There is nothing to do, but you can clearly see here what the fight against water means to the Dutch.

If a moment of rest is needed, it is nice to walk around here.

A beautiful place in the middle of the sea. Highway and water makes an effect. Great view from the tower. Free admission!

The Afsluitdijk is in itself special to drive over. What is more fun to take a break at the monument halfway?
Nice, (relatively) quiet environment, where you can walk from one side of the dike to the other. There is a lookout point, a shop and a restaurant. But you also have beautiful views of the water from other places and there is nice information in the available parking spaces.
Of course also accessible by bicycle or bus.

Beautiful water birds such as the grebe are often present in the water.

It should be a mandatory stop on the closing dike for everyone ... .. you relax with the beautiful view and the wind that always blows ... All worries away ... And then a cup of coffee in the tiny but so cozy restaurant

As a Dutchman you have to drive over the closing dam once. Did you know that the dam that was closed in 1932 is also 32km long?

It is due for a makeover, but it is a gem on the Afsluitdijk.

If you drive here, it is definitely worth stopping for a few minutes. Very informative and beautiful view (especially with good weather!)

Visited the Afsluitdijk yesterday, which is an amazing barrage separating the Zuidersee from the North Sea. It is 32Km long and 90m wide and 7.25m above sea level and was completed in 1932 using predominantly manual labour. Even by todays standards, this is a civil engineering project of massive scale. Recommended and well worth a visit.

For me again and again a fascinating building, this dike. The monument is now and then part of the visit program.
