If you're passing in the Netherlands and you come over here then you should really take a break and enjoy this exceptional site. At the place where in 1932 the last hole in the Dam was closed one has the tower, the Monument, built in 1933.
Upstairs is a small balcony with a beautiful view of the Dam, the IJsselmeer to the south, and the Wadden Sea to the north.
At the entrance of the tower you can see a work of art. A bronze relief with three steenzetters like basalt blocks put in the dam. At the top is a lot of text saying: "A people that lives builds its future."
Shows a different picture: "A battle against the water remains a struggle by and for the people"
All honor to Cornelis Lely the inspirer of this immense project!

One of the most impressive engineering works of all time that connects Friesland and North Holland: 32 km long, closed the passage of water to the Wadden Sea (Unesco heritage), thus transforming the Zuiderzee ('South Sea') ) in the IJsselmeer lake.
It is certainly worth following it and stopping at the vantage point to see also the evident difference of the currents in the two seas and their difference in altitude.

Dull.

Nice place to enjoy the views.
