My wife and I took a tour of the Opera House and then we saw a musical called Six. We enjoyed both the tour and the show. We ate lunch at a sidewalk cafe. It was a very satisfying way to spend a day in Sydney.

One of the icons of the world.

One of the icons of the world.
It's a long walk from Circular Quay but well worth the trip.
To get out of the sun, grab an ice cold drink from the one of the basement restaurants.
Best time to go is early morning or sunset as it will be cool with an amazing view.

The Sydney Opera House is as about as iconic as anything else in Sydney. For a tourist it is definitely worth a visit and a few photos but can be very busy and overwhelming. Here are a few tips to get the best views and avoid the crowds. 1) Hop on a ferry! There are cheap ferry options you can access right next door and get some very beautiful views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge from the water. 2) Walk the Harbour Bridge. It is free to walk across the bridge (not over the top) and you can see some very beautiful views of the Opera House from here. 3) Go to The Rocks. Right around the corner from Circular Quay is The Rocks. From here you can get some great photos and views of this amazing building.

Finally, a couple of last minute tips. Try out the Hot Chips chicken salt from the fish stand near the ferries. They are cheap and good. Watch out for pick-pocketers. Remember there are many other amazing things to do in Sydney so feel free to explore deep into the city!

Join the tour and hope you get a decent guide. Learn the history and get a greater appreciation of the architecture of the building.

If you are lucky, you may be able to witness a live rehearsal during the tour.

After that enjoy a live opera and a light show that projects into the opera house side.

Always visits whenever we can. Marvelous architecture. The harbor got many bars. The performance was great. Taking photos is not that easy. Night view is spectacular. Stunning water front view.

Nothing else carves up the horizon as beautifully as the sleek blades of the Opera House.
Regardless of the time of day or night, it always looks magnificent as the crown of Sydney and Sydney Harbour. So many vantage points that I just can't get enough

There isn't anything I could add that hasn't already been said about the Sydney Opera House. This is obviously a symbol of Sydney and brings in locals and tourists alike daily to take in the views and offerings.

There is a nice bar/grill located on the premises, and if memory serves me correct there are also tours of the facility when productions/events aren't occurring.

Whilst I haven't attended a play or concert here, I have heard the acoustics are breath-taking and that there is not a bad seat in the house.

It also goes without saying that NYE is a big deal here, with thousands of revellers coming to welcome the world to a new year.

The tour there is so amazing!!!!!!! When you go on a tour at the Sydney opera house you will see and learn so much. You might be able to see and learn about all of the theatres. The sails are so big that when it was being built they didn't know how to make them!!!!!!!

From the outside, this place is iconic but from the inside, even more so. We did a tour of the inside and although pricey, definitely worth it especially for those interested in history, musical theatre and performances. The work and detail that went into the place is second to none and something that architects can't possibly replicate even to this day. If you have bit of spare time in Sydney I'd definitely recommend!

The Opera House is more beautiful in person than in pictures. It is a must see when in Sydney, and stop down below for a drink. The food and beverage are a little pricey, but not as expensive as I had expected for being at a destination and sight seeing spot. I also reccomend to go inside and give a quick look around, as the architecture is fun and unique.

Looks good like a Lotus/Waratah flower and a nice tourist attraction. Good architecture but not very engaging unless you book an opera. Looks best during festivals like vivid Sydney, lunar new year, etc

The Sydney Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts centre at Sydney Harbour in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is one of the 20th century's most famous and distinctive buildings.

The building and its surrounds occupy the whole of Bennelong Point on Sydney Harbour, between Sydney Cove and Farm Cove, adjacent to the Sydney central business district and the Royal Botanic Gardens, and close by the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The building comprises multiple performance venues, which together host well over 1,500 performances annually, attended by more than 1.2 million people. Performances are presented by numerous performing artists, including three resident companies: Opera Australia, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. As one of the most popular visitor attractions in Australia, the site is visited by more than eight million people annually, and approximately 350,000 visitors take a guided tour of the building each year. The building is managed by the Sydney Opera House Trust, an agency of the New South Wales State Government.
On 28 June 2007, the Sydney Opera House became a UNESCO World Heritage Site, having been listed on the (now defunct) Register of the National Estate since 1980, the National Trust of Australia register since 1983, the City of Sydney Heritage Inventory since 2000, the New South Wales State Heritage Register since 2003, and the Australian National Heritage List since 2005. Furthermore, the Opera House was a finalist in the New7Wonders of the World campaign list.

Beautiful (if not different) looking opera house.

Beautiful (if not different) looking opera house.

It was originally estimated to cost about $7 million but actually cost over $100 million and construction took 14 years instead of the 4 years estimated.

Every year (this is rather new though) the city does a "City of Light" (Vibid) and different images and patterns are projected on the buildings in the city and the opera house. It's pretty awesome to see. When I find the pictures I will post them.

An icon with its unique architecture design sets this magnificent theatre into a historical landmark in Sydney. Though I only managed to glimpse this promontory prominence from a distance but the satisfaction I get from being able to be here drove me to the edge of my contenment. As a young man, I always dreamed of one day visiting Down Under and to pay homage to this icon, the Opera House so you see coming here sort of fulfilled my childhood dream and close the chapter of my obsession with this unique masterpiece. The weather was kind to me and the sky, oh..... blue sky and everything nice. I will never forget how wonderful to finally make the trip coming over here. The very short time I have was spend with great enthusiasm watching with my eyes wide open imaging the determination of the people building it. I did it, I sincerely hope and be glad that you too would one day also have the chance to see it for yourself. Fine piece of work of art.

This is a must see if you come to Sydney. The architecture work is truly breathtaking. I would definately suggest taking the route through the Botanical gardens. Also be sure to visit inside the lounge area to sit relax and take in the grandeur. Kid friendly with lots of spots to stop for water or bathroom break.

this is a top notch destination right on Sydney harbour and near the beautiful Sydney harbour bridge. Especially during the Sydney lights festival when the opera house lights up.. fantastic!!. There's also a beautiful park beside the Opera house with a train ride thrown in. The opera house grounds have lots of restaurants and retail with awesome entertainment. No better place to spend the day than the Sydney Opera House.Great scenery, fantastic place to sit and appreciate the beauty of architecture and modern city life.

It's pretty good place and length wise is one of the longest Jetts in Brisbane. I have suggested the addition of 2 fans in the center of the gym more than 18 months ago and no improvement has happened. During the day the aircon is on and the temperature can be adjusted by staff. But night time is a bit hot especially in the summer.

The tour was excellent and the concert even better. The dinner is at a popular outdoor cafe/ bar right at the opera house. The food was good but it was very crowded and choices are limited. The view however was amazing. It can be cool in the evening so bring a jacket.

Apart from the tile of the shells and the glass curtain walls of the foyer spaces, the building's exterior is largely clad with aggregate panels composed of pink granite quarried at Tarana. Significant interior surface treatments also include off-form concrete, Australian white birch plywood supplied from Wauchope in northern New South Wales, and brush box glulam.
Of the two larger spaces, the Concert Hall is in the western group of shells, the Joan Sutherland Theatre in the eastern group. The scale of the shells was chosen to reflect the internal height requiremenT.

Such an iconic building in Sydney! Am proud that my granddad was requested by Liberace to tune his piano there. Beautiful venue and a must for all tourists and Sydneysiders alike to visit. Great diversity of shows, not just opera and ballet. Visit their website regularly for new performances available.

The parking fee for opera house starts from 0 minutes. Once entered, you will have to pay some amount. But at the same time, it's great comfort. Street parking is very difficult to find and may involve lot of walking. It's better to park underneath and enjoy the time on quay and in botanical gardens.

Perhaps the most visited tourist attraction in NSW. It s the icon of Sydney, if you haven t been here, you haven t been into Sydney. It s just like that.
If you re interested in watching performance, check the schedule it is available online too. I like this place in the morning, less tourists and still have a beautiful shot of the opera house. Best getting its postcard view from The Domain.
Or crossing to Manly beach from the harbour? Can do.

It is a marvelous work of architecture. The opera house is an iconic creation of man that has gained respect and admiration through the years. Whereas before, the buildings and its immediate surroundings were used as a background for pictorials and family souvenir photos, now in these technologically capable times, the tiled roof of all the Opera House buildings served as a projector screen for the Vivid Sydney light show. In essence, the roof can qualify as the worlds largest convex movie screen. Whoever thought of it is a very imaginative genius.

Nice excursion for Sundays or public holidays. Not much shelter around this area, so avoid during rainy days, events eateries along circular quay have no walking shelter.

You can walk inside the common area but fees apply for going further in. We watched a show here a few years back and it was a pleasant experience. Safe area with easy train access.

Parking is insanely $$$, but if you check with the overseas passenger terminal operated by Wilson, you can get 25$ whole day parking if no ship is in port.

Obviously a must do when visiting Sydney. Such a great structure and is definitely worth the time to come and see. On most days of the week is really busy with tourists so there isn't really any avoiding busy times. Wouldn't recommend going to the opera bar next to it though is very overpriced and a bit of a tourist trap. Is what it is though. Definitely worth ticking of your list of things to see whilst in Sydney though.

I worked here 30 years ago during uni and have seen ballet, opera, concerts and plays as well as been to events. Every time I walk up to this stunning icon it takes my breath away. A world class venue, this is a must for Sydneysiders and visitors.

The Bennelong Restaurant is so impressive, north concert bar is magnificent and the performance spaces are awe inspiring.

This building has been the backdrop to many of the events in my life - my daughter s first trip to the sydney dance company ballet, seeing Nelson Mandela speak, my first big date with my husband, anniversaries, work events and even a wedding.

Update: last night I saw the opera Don Giovanni, and it reminded my how much I love seeing events here. It was my anniversary with my partner and we thoroughly enjoyed the entire evening, from champagne in the south opera bar to the magnificent performance.

Without question this iconic landmark is a must do for all Sydney tourists. The Sydney opera House is both magnificent, usually under estimated and inspiring all at the same time. It s best to get a tour around the venue and then many of the secrets of the Sydney opera House are revealed. No detail is left to chance and even the toilets are stylish and functional see pics. The history is amazing along with the political controversy that ensued whilst being built. Don t miss it five out of five.
