Surf Seafood Portsmouth Review

This is very unique experience with different tastes. Friendly staff with good knowledge about menu.

Great food, incredible view from the windows. Sushi is not traditional, but a actually is better than traditional. We have been there twice, and planning to come again.

Snarky hostess told us 45 minute wait to sit outside however could seat us now if indoors. We opted for a wait and outdoor seating and were given major stank face. When they finally paged us we walked all the way back to be told they made a mistake, but we could dine indoors or wait 45 more minutes. Manager was rude and unapologetic. I'm making it my mision to review this place everywhere online.

Great food, service + views. Best quesadillas I've ever had, and the sushi is amazing as well. Nice views of the water, a solid dining spot in Portsmouth.

Had a table for 4 on a Saturday, sat waterside with an excellent view.

Service was prompt and friendly, nice waitress. She was nice enough to find a way to seat a 5th person that showed up as well.

All of the food seemed fresh, two people ordered the baked haddock and myself and another split the fisherman's platter. Everything in the latter was lightly breaded and fried, not too heavy. Fries are standard and good.

Table service included bread and option for tap or bottled water.

Lighting could've been turned up a bit it was sort of dark in there. But no complaints.

Excellent place to eat the seafood was delicious and fresh. The wait staff was excellent. Prices were certainly reasonable for the ample portions that you got highly recommended

This restaurant is a gem! From the raw bar the very extensive and fabulous entrees the service absolutely everything is perfect. I am so impressed I can't even give it the proper words.

Good seafood. Menu options are a little different than the typical, which can be hit or miss. Like almost everywhere in Portsmouth, the accessibility leaves a lot to desire.

Phenomenal meal. Steak was cooked perfectly, and meal was reasonably priced for the quality. Everyone (including kids!) were pleased with their meal. Would absolutely recommend.

Sooooo good! All other seafood is sad it wasn t cooked by their chef wizards. . I especially recommend the oysters, the lobster and Brie nachos, and the Lobster Kristina. A-maz-ing!!!

I waited eight months and travelled 3500 miles for Surf's lobster roll. It was with the wait and travel.

Awesome muscles! Great cocktails and great views of the water. No umbrellas so the sun made it hard to look up. But overall great place. Will definitely go back this summer

Fantastic food, good portions. The server was very nice suggested fried calamari and it was delicious. It was great to start with and then came our main course. Shrimp vindaloo was definitely the best dish, and the spice was adjusted to our taste buds. The salmon with brown rice was unique and delicious. The sushi was really good as well. The staff was very friendly and helped us out with our orders. We loved this restaurant and are definitely going to come again!!!

Had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch with my wife and sister in law. We were seated at a table overlooking the water. Our waiter showed up promptly and took our drink orders. From there the rest of our meal proceeded in a timely manner, while never feeling rushed. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed and the food was delicious! With such a great meal, why wouldn't we have dessert?? Just a fantastic experience! Highly recommended!

Surf is great for a lower level fine dining experience. Really good quality seafood and decent cocktails. I definitely recommend putting your name in for the deck and getting a drink in Portsmouth for an hour while you wait. Once you come back the seafood sampler was a great way to try their different selections.

Great sushi, friendly, inspired menu. You get what you pay for.

Visited again 4 months later. The food here is still amazing. Lobster Kristina main dish is probably one of the best dishes I've had in my life. Service is very nice.

This place is great for seafood or just a great view! We got seated by the window during sunset and it was amazing. My fish was really good.

It is missing some ambiance but the food is spectacular. The sushi lobster roll is so good I ordered a second one.

Incredible food and cocktails. My favorite fish is the Lobster Kristina, however, I haven t tried their sushi yet. A bit pricey so not a great casual night place. They need to start accepting proper reservations, it s hard to plan to go here because they don t allow reservations for small groups.

Excellent food and service!! I got the red dragon sushi roll and I'll go back just to get that. Sooo good! Also great cocktails as well and they serve Allagash White (best beer ever). My girlfriend got a sushi roll that had a "very sweet pineapple sauce" on the top. The server advised us that it was sweet, and it was. It tasted like a 'dessert' sushi.

Loved the blackened haddock tacos and calamari. Would highly recommend seafood baked trio. Service was great as well.

To get five stars price would need to be somewhat reasonable and food would need to live up to the price.
Pros:
View, rare drinks, wine list beautiful presentation of food.

Cons: price, recipes are not amazing but good, waitstaff are not as friendly and nice as other places.

Great food.. menu is mainly seafood with one or two things non-seafood which is something to be mindful of.

We came on a Sunday night in January and it was very peaceful. It it located right on the water in Portsmouth. We ordered a beer and a sangria which were both excellent. Then we ordered oysters which were fabulous. After that we ordered the spicy salmon roll which was fresh and excellent. Following that we had the mussels which were very, very tasty. The Waiter was very attentive, professional, knowledgeable and polite. I would Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

First time ever here for a company outing. The food was good but the service was not so great. Waitress handed us all the wrong wines so we all had to take sips to figure out who s was whose. She never came back to see if we needed anything once food was served. Right from the start she didn t want to take our orders and it was obvious and all my co-workers agreed she wasn t very friendly and bossy . Sad considering we work near by...

We took a family of 8 reservation yesterday morning. The staff was very helpful/kind (thanks Derrick!) - and their sushi and even the broccoli salad were all amazing. Great chefs, amazing/diverse menu, accommodating staff, and a view that can't be beat in Portsmouth. If you're having trouble making a decision, come here, you can't go wrong

We had a fantasic lunch here. Oysters and lobster were delicous starters, but the fish tacos really stole the show! Ask to sit on the deck if the weather is nice. Highly recommend this place for a meal or seafood snack!

Amazing food, amazing service, great drinks! My personal favorite item from the menu is the sesame seared tuna steak.

My husband and I got shrimp and sushi. The food was delicious and proportionate to the price. There was a fantastic view of the port. The staff was fantastic and did I mention the food was delicious?? Yumm! Would go again!

The sushi is perfect at Surf. Our waitress was amazing and so mellow and friendly. I had the edemame which was the best I ever had. I think it had seasame oil on it which gave it great flavor. I also got the dynomite roll and it was so tasty. All the flavors worked so well together. I have to give a shout out to the bartender for making a PERFECT Cosmo!!!

Jillian was an excellent waitress. The food was phenomenal. One table next to us had a minor issue with a dish and it was taken care of immediately and Jillian thanked them for telling her. Will definitely go back.
