Needed advice re feasibility of undertaking a loft conversion as have some structural weakness (bowing) flank wall. Did some research on the Institute of Structural Engineers website and was impressed with SSA's response to my initial queries. Derek and the SSA team completed a feasibility report earlier in the year which made recommendations (including an architect) that could take the project forward.

We're now at a stage that a detailed structural engineering report has been completed (calculations and drawings) with the architect currently completing the detailed plan to take to builders for quotes and realise the project in the near future.

I have been very impressed by SSA - Derek's knowledge and advice, timely responses and above all his willingness to explain and walk me through the process has been invaluable. I highly recommend SSA - a bespoke service.

Really can't rate Derek and his team highly enough and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him and to work with him again in the future.
We have undertaken a huge amount of renovation work to our Victorian house which given its four stories is a substantial structure to support during the construction work. We are delighted with the end result - which despite the severity of the engineering challenge all completed without any engineering issues. We did however encounter disputes between contractors and a utility company which frankly we would not have been able to resolve without Derek's expert guidance, intervention and arbitration. We could never have foreseen those challenges but were massively reassured to have access to the wealth of Derek's experience when the construction challenges arose. Great job. Derek Mason of SSA assessed our flat for how safe it would be to remove a partial wall in our kitchen. We needed to know if it was load bearing and would have any impact on the structure of our building. Derek did a thorough inspection of the property and was able to provide us with the reassurance we needed that the work could be safely carried out.

Derek acted speedily to arrange an on-site visit and write a report which suggested a simpler and less costly solution. We were very grateful for his input at a very stressful time. Derek was brilliant for us. We were in a desperate situation with extremely limited time in order for our house sale to go through, it was down to the wire when the buyer's bank made a last minute request for the loft to be checked by a qualified structural engineer. We made dozens of calls but only Derek was willing to go the extra mile for us, to visit and then write up the report out of hours. He came the day after the call and spent his evening putting the report together so that we could get it to the buyer's solicitor just in the nick of time.

Huge thanks and appreciation to him. It was clear that he genuinely cared about getting the work done to help his clients. That aside, he was extremely professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to communicate everything, explaining what, how, and why... So I even got to learn some new things too.
