I am a graduate from sunstate academy and I can say my experience was life changing!!! I'm so happy I made this choice in my life! The teachers are very welcoming and not only strive to see you succeed in the industry but really take the time to connect with you! There's always something new to learn and exciting events going down at funstate!!! It's a school like no other and I would go back in a heartbeat!!!

A wonderful place to get yourself taken care of! It's very affordable and worth the time to go!

While I attended sunstate not only did I gain knowledge and experience but I gained a family. When I was frustrated and wanted to give up they encouraged me to keep going. They were my support system thought it all! I enjoyed the amazing opportunities sunstate offered me such as competing in the premier Orlando hair show! I had fun everyday with some of the most talented instructors. If cosmetology is at all your passion and you're wanting to expand your knowledge and get your license for hair, skin, or nails I 100% recommend choosing Sunstate. They have many schedule options to fit almost anybody's schedule.

I'm not always crazy about the instructors(really just one) but the students are great. They try really hard to please you and for the price it can nit be beat.

Juliet did magic on my hair! Very professional, explained everything that needed to be done for me to achieve my desired look (I went from light brown to purple going into beige-gray). It turned out amazing!

Remember these are students they are learning and they are doing their best to get a good grade. I stopped by the counter on my way out after getting a prepaid 60 min massage and left positive comments for the instructor. Very professional operation and very high standards including overall appearance. Definately worth returning for other services. This is close to home and I give it a THUMBS UP!!

Rude management. Wait time is extremely long. I could not believe how rude the people instructing the students were. Also while paying the system went down. So of course I had to problem waiting. But then the girl had me swipe again and my payment went thru and she made me do it again cause she didn t see it say approved. So I paid cash instead. I called my banked while in the car and they stated they payment cleared. So I went back in let them here the bank say it. They argued that it didn t show on there system. I paid a totally of 33.03 for manicure only.

This was by far the most horrible salon experience I've ever had. I have very long natural brown hair and I came to sun state to go blonde, bleach and toned. What I ended up with at the end of my appointment was a mix of colors and tones that I would call calico. Bright oranges, yellows, reds, brown and spots of blonde. A total disaster. Very bad. I don't blame the student for the mess I left with but the instructors and management of this place. Especially the instructor... Ms. Shannon. Throughout my appointment and at the end ms. Shannon kept telling me how good my hair looked. You know you're hair looks bad when other students are walking up and taking pics of my hair and showing them to me. Multiple students made comments to me about how had my hair looked.. and 1 student even made the comment (I should ware a hat in public). When I explained to the instructor Ms. Shannon that I was unhappy with my hair she never responded with what I would expect anyone to say in this situation, she still insisted on how nice my hair came out. (REALLY). No one offered to resolve this. They didn't offer to fix it by re-dyeing my hair nor did they offer me a refund. The total lack of concern and ignorance twords there customers is outrageous to me. Honestly I think a 10 year old child could have done a better job. I will never return to sun state academy again for a of there service. I added a few pics. Before and after pics. The pics don't show just how bad my hair really looks. But trust me (it's terrible) honestly I'm totally embarrassed to go out with my hair looking like this. Unfortunately I have to wait a while before trying to fix it so I don't run the risk of frying my hair or having it fall out.

I have been going here for years and my hair cuts & perms just keep getting better and better. Thank you to an instructor named Farah for making this perm look so sassy!!. I LOVE IT

I went in for a pedicure and for gel polish on my finger nails a few months back as a birthday gift to myself. The pedicure was fine- nothing special, but nothing to complain about either; it was what I expected. However, my gel polish experience was not good. The first time I went for the gel polish (more than a year ago), it was great and they were exactly what I wanted- I loved them. This last time, however, they looked like a child did them. The polish was thin, and you could see the white spots on my nails through the polish, and the girl didn't get the sides- it looked like a thick stripe down the middle. And then when I asked for glitter (like I did the first time I went) the instructor scolded me about how the girl wasn't trained on that yet and I couldn't have it. (The first time I had it done, they painted the color, dumped glitter on it, and did a clear top coat- I don't understand how you can be trained to do the color but not trained to literally dump a vial of glitter on top). I understand that they are students and they are there to learn, but I can paint my nails for free and have it look better- with no training at all. And I was scolded even though I politely asked for glitter one time- I didn't even push the issue, even though I thought it was stupid. I won't go back for the gel polish, and probably not for the pedicure either just because of how I was treated.

I'm a client of twelves years. With patients and excitement of getting my hair retouched , highlighted , cut and trimmed. Over the years I've seen students and instuctors amaze me with thier talents. My last visit the Salon coordinator, Bria , greeted me with a warm friendly smile. It was so pleasant to receive. My Stylist , Tanya Geyer was so attentive . She made me feel comfortable with her warm personality. I was so pleased when I was finished . My hair was soft flowing and most of all I felt comfortable leaving. Tanya' instructor Mr Josh , had alot of knowledge and experience I was confident that the students were getting the very best education in this field. I was do very proud to be a client of Sunstate Academy. I would highly recommend Salon Solaris .

Sunstate is an amazing school! Their instructors and administration help you every step of the way, they take a personal interest in students and help through so much in their personal lives as well as in their education. I would recommend anyone to go to sunstate. At sunstate we are one big family who are there for you through thick and thin. I am a licensed cosmetologist in FL as well as the school helped me get a license in the state of NJ. I'm proud to be a sunstate graduate.

I went to tour the school as a mature (meaning older) adult student. I accidentally knocked over brochures, apologized for doing so, then was told that I was causing a scene and was asked to leave.

I will ABSOLUTELY not recommend anyone who cares about getting a PROFESSIONAL education to go here.

The entire situation from beginning to end could have been handled COMPLETELY differently. I honestly called to find out the cost, and was told that they couldn't give me that information over the phone, that I had to come in.

When I was "filling out paperwork", their paperwork asks intrusive questions, such as "Relationship Status" "How many children do you have" "What are their ages". These are questions that employers aren't even allowed to ask, so why would a school?

This school seems to allow and nurture the melodramatic aspect that plagues many salons. As a former Salon and Spa owner, I am looking for something MUCH different and more professional than this "he said, she said" type of scenario.

The Campus Director, as well as the Admissions person, Sophie, both need to learn to take what their students say with a grain of salt. Perhaps instituting a class on how to handle conflict should be in their future.

Sunstate was a great school, the teachers truly cared for the students. I started school and then had some life happen so had to withdraw. I straightened some things out that I needed to do and then talked to someone to return. They allowed me to return with open arms and made it their mission to get me finished knowing that I had some tough things in my life. Ms.Theresa, Mrs.Mary, Mrs.Jenny, and many others were very helpful and kind. For future stylists, I recommend this school if the beauty world is what you want to be in. AND for potential clients, PLEASE keep in mind you are going to a school where STUDENTS are LEARNING. So they may not be the quickest or the best, BUT it is THE STUDENTS BEST.

I have been having services on/off for years. The products are great and the students are so eager to learn. The instructors have a lot of knowledge and it s a fun environment. The time spent is well worth the value.
01/21/20. Returned for another great experience. Color turned out wonderful and working on highlights. The students and instructors are so inviting. Clean, open and comfortable.

There are around 6 students reported with COVID-19 in Fort Myers Sunstate Academy!!! The administration is lying and hiding the situation. They dont care about their students. I'm reporting it to OSHA and FLDOE (Commission for Independent Education)

I called and inquired about coming in for services. The girl I spoke with said any time on Mondays from 8am to 8pm. I asked her AGAIN, so I just walk in at ANY time?! She said YES. I walked in at 4pm to be sent away... there was going to be a shift change, and the 2nd shift of students would not be in and set up until 5:30. I drove here from NW Cape Coral with my 2 daughters who were eager to get their nails done, so against my better judgment considering there was already miscommunication, we waited around Fort Myers, and went back at 5:20. We signed in, and were the only customers there. At 5:40 someone else walked in and signed in. We still were not called. They called her back first, at 6:00. We are now waiting an additional 40 minutes to be called back, and the entire 40 minutes, every single student in there was snacking, drinking, and chit chatting with each other. My daughters and I finally threw in the towel at 6:20. What a waste of time, and gas.

This place is so unorganized and sooo uncollected this place needs to get themselves together don t recommend this place they said we were already gonna be back there in 10 minutes one hour later we are still sitting here

I Have always received top quality customer service every time I've gone! I have also liked what they've done too my hair every time I've left, keep it up Sunstate your doing wonderfully???????

Absolutely wonderful people all around! Sydney did my manicure and she was amazing, along with the girls at the front desk who were so pleasant! Definitely will be going back!

I am a Sunstate academy graduate. The administration is impeccable all of the instructors motivate you to do your very best. As a student at Sunstate that is now a licensed cosmetologist, I would and do recommend Sunstate academy to anyone interested in this industry! On the guest side of it, I would also recommend Salon Solaris to any individuals seeking hair, nail, or massages. The products they use are top of the line. The price is incredible and there's always discounts being sent out. Last but not least the instructors on the floor almost make it impossible for you to leave unsatisfied.

I love Sunstate academy I graduated here and everything is hands on I can't ask for a better school and staff that taught me a lot and they motivate you and I'm licensed and working at a good salon

Honestly despite the negative reviews I have gotten amazing cuts 8 out of 10 times.
People who expect top notch haircuts are cheap. You get what you pay for.

My advice is make sure the teacher is around, explain in full detail what cut you are getting. Dont ask for high-end styles like a pompadour or something to modern because these are fresh students.

On occasion you will get a veteran stylist who has pre-school experience (rarely)
which can take complex cuts.

If you plan on getting cuts from here for a long-time get to know a teacher, chat them up, be nice, and understanding, eventually you can come in and ask the teacher if they have advanced students who are close to graduating to give you a better cut.

Otherwise stop being cheap and go pay for a professional at a hair salon not an academy.

Horrible experience !!! Students miserable complaining about staff . Staff telling students to figure it out. School is dirty and smells like mold . Staff telling students to hurry up to get another client. School is only worried about the money not students . School asking for good reviews in exchange for discounted services . I asked to speak to person in charged and they said that he cannot attend me because it was not his job. That they had a person in charge to speak to clients

I have had 3 massages so far at this place and I have been very satisfied each time. And for less than 1/2 the price of a regular spa! I recommend this place completely.

I called last night and asked to make nail appointments for myself and 5 others for a wedding this weekend. I was told they couldn't make appointments (most beauty schools don't, no biggie), and was SPECIFICALLY told that they stopped taking nail walk ins at 2:30pm. I said no problem and even though they couldn't take appointments, I warned them that we'd have 4 sets of gels and 2 plain manicures, they said no problem and that they'd see us the next day (today). When we walked in, we were left waiting for 20 minutes before someone even spoke to us, then we were told they had no nail techs. No, not any nail techs in that day, none at ALL! They said they had all graduated.
The beauty industry is not all about your quality of work, it's also your quality of customer care. I would NEVER recommend this establishment. They clearly do not know what the hell is going on in their own business and we weren't even apologized to for THEIR monumental miscommunication that cost us an hour drive for nothing.

I had a wash ,cut and color. They listened to everything I said . I had the most wonderful experience I've had at any salon. I will most definitely go there from now on.

Unprofessional, very rude and just not worth the visit. Seems like they're all forced to be there and hate interacting with customers. It may be cheap but the quality of work is cheap as well-- you get what you pay for.

In the beginning it was a disater i called and talk to the director amd ahe fixed the problem. Way more satisfied and i will be comming back

My wife's experience was very unpleasant. She went for a style cut. The stylist wouldn't, or refused to, speak English and had to fetch the desk clerk to interpret every time she needed to give an instruction. None of those around her could assist. The result was that the cut was not to her liking. Needless to ssy we won't be back.

Sunstate academy changed my life. The best year of my life was spent with the teachers and administrators. Every day was a fun experience and I would recommend this school to any student who wants a real HANDS ON learning experience. I wouldn't be the successful and confident hair stylist I am today if it weren't for the constant pushing and attention from my teachers.

Bad attitude no respect for a customer which was my WIFE AND GREAT GRANDMA! Eddy was the employee and I like how you have my family wait and try to blame someone else for your or action and mistake. When working with a customer who speaks no English you help them to understand more for yourself to make them happy. But talking to others was more important

I've been going there for a couple of months now. My natural hair is super frizzy but they've managed to give me a whole new look and my hair actually bounces!!! It never has, I'm very impressed! Keep up the great work! :-)

Sunstate is a fun, friendly and great place to go. The students are there to work their hardest and make you look and feel beautiful. I would highly recommend them as they offer tons of services... This is the worst school in the world they do not treat you like an Adult with respect and they don't care about helping you succeed in life it's all about the money! Once you go two week and get on the floor it's all messed up instructors are throw in a class set and nobody has a real lesson. They're all about it's getting more students in to get more money for them old chairs broken desk sink bowls are gross and if your NOT KISSING THE HEAD PPL BUTT THEY DO NOT LIKE You! They don't keep up with hrs they rather charge you more for days you attended and make you remake up hr just so you have to pay more money! The nail class is a rip off and the barber program!!! Even cosmo Not worth it period! You leave here after 1200hr clueless of how to cut hair or color! You'll leave here still feeling unprepared for state board and my last day I'm clueless of how to even set up for my Exams I still feel the need to go home and study all over again and self teach myself! If your not on competition team your a no body at this school! They rather you do clients hair to get more money then make sure you fully completed assignments or test to be complete. Never have I had an instructor encourage me or just give me inspiration I can only say Ms. Yolanda and Ms. Robi are the only teachers here to motivate me and help me !

I graduated from Sunstate Academy a better person from my experience. My journey to being a cosmetologist was enriched, and my passion was stirred. The administrative staff along with most of the educators, were always available and willing to answer my many questions. I wasnt tech savvy but everyone was super patient with helping me to become current and prepared to enter the workforce. I love Sunstate and everything that they represent. Their staff are teamplayers and they make it look easy, when i know that its not. I highly recommend this establishment for anyone looking for a spa or beauty career. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience in that building. Kudos!!!

Im never satisfied with my service at this facility!

They have the worst customer service, went in there to get a lip wax, and nail repair, and had to wait over an hour. There not organization and don't have no directions from instructors it a zoo.

Sunstate Academy is a wonderful school! I graduated in 2008 and have a very successful salon to which I also have 5 employees, all of whom are sunstate grads!!! Great school, excellent educators, and a super fun environment! Highly recommend!!!

Facials and massages are the best relaxation. Try some here and you won't be dissapointed.

Waiting a week for the appointment, get there, wait 30 minutes to be told the have no chemicals to do highlights.

Isaac did a fabulous job with my hair. Went from the salon to the grocery store and was receiving compliments from random strangers. Thanks, Isaac for the great hair and pleasant conversation. Keep reaching for the stars!

As of recently, I was completely unsatisfied with the customer service/quality of work that I received. Since graduation was coming up, my mother decided to treat me to a new set of nails. Salon Solaris was my go to, of course (even though I never had my nails done there previously; just hair services)

Check in was a breeze. Eventually my name was called and right off the bat, the girl was friendly. No complaints, so far so great.
We got started and everything was great. Eventually, she started filing the top of my nail and cuticle to the point it hurt. I still currently have the filing marks on my nails (it's been 3 weeks now)

I let her do her job, considering I'm not a nail tech and I have no business telling her what to do. The appointment progressed so. Ridiculously. Slow.

She wasn't prepared whatsoever, with the lack of acrylic nails available for my finger sizes. She kept forgetting which nail went on which. The glue she used wouldn't stick so she'd get a napkin, wipe it off my nail and the acrylic nail, just to do the same exact thing over again, creating a clump of glue on the sides.
Eventually she got new glue and it progressed. a little faster, even though she didn't glue it in correctly, as it left air pockets where my natural nail was supposed to be covered by the acrylic nail. (Which can cause nail fungus if I had left the nails on because of the water that would have gotten into those pockets)
That process alone took nearly an hour.

I tried showing a picture of an idea I had, just a simple shape and some color with chrome.
Turns out, she didn't even know how to do the shape I wanted. We spent another TWO HOURS sitting there as she would occasionally daze out and kept trying to make the shape.
I settled for the typical round nail, which still came out uneven in the end.

We got to polish, where I wanted the chrome powder (which I told her from the beginning). I asked if that would cost extra along with the gel and she said no.
HORRIBLE SELECTION. Simply horrible. A lot of the nail polishes were basically empty or water-like with no color.
We finally found a gel color and a glitter.
She waited until after the gel was in to go ask for chrome, which they didn't even have.

As she was applying the gel polish, it was getting all over the sides of my fingers and, in short, it came out bad.
The glitter polish came out clumpy with no type of consistency in color.
She had to consistently put layers to try and make it seem like there was any in the nail.
My hands were in an out of the nail-dryer thing and it STILL came out wet. This process took another hour.

After the nail appointment was over, I felt like crying because they came out so bad. The nails weren't all even the same length or thickness, with the glue on the sides and nail polish all on the sides of my fingers.

I didn't want to make her feel bad because, after all, she is a student. But honestly, I should have. I feel bad for anyone after me who gets nails done by her, especially because she graduates very soon.

We got to the front desk to pay and we gave the 15 bucks and were on our way when she said no, the gel and whatnot brang it up to $25, even though the girl said it wouldn't cost extra. We spent 4 hours (got there when it opened at 8:30 and left after 12:30) The girl had 0 sympathy and had a hasty attitude when my mom complained about this.

I wouldn't have even gotten the gel polish if I would have known previously that there was no chrome (she said you have to have gel in order to have the chrome).

All in all, I went home devastated, as we had little money and wanted to at least get treated to a little something for my graduation. It came out horrible and I tried fixing it when I got home but was still deemed unfixable.

I was embarrassed to even hold my diploma with my nails for everyone to see, and they even popped off merely 2 days after I got them.

Just don't waste your time or money here for nails. Go to a corner store for nails or something, I guarantee they'll do at least a little better.

As a former student of Sunstate academy I would be wary if you're going to pick this school for yourself. The head board of education doesn't take any situation seriously, the staff doesn't teach well. They're understaffed and have a lot of students. the instructors tell you you can ask for help but when you do they don't want to help, they'll leave you alone to figure it out on your own. when I was in the middle of leaving the school the head board of education told me she's a "fixer" she likes to fix things (not true) since I've left the school has gotten worse. They only care about funding for the competition team and that's it. It would be a waste of 17,000 dollars to go to this school. Not to mention when I was leaving this school in November, they told me they were going to start a tutoring program I'm really upset to hear that wasn't even started because there are students who could really benefit from it. keep your eyes open there are better schools out there with teachers and a head board of education who actually care!! And I'm going to add that they're always going to somehow get money from you, they're going to tell you that you can win something in class that is considered a "free" service, it's not. And if you lose your badge it's 25 dollars, manikins are 50 and they're still to cheap to buy the things they need to buy such as bins for the the barbicide and shipshape, and new nail polishes, and may I add they do NOT throw away their nail files and buffers after each use!! Gross!!

I so enjoy going to Sunstate. They are very friendly and always eager to help and answer any questions that I might have. They hold to a high standard of professionalism. It is a fun, faced paced, and energetic atmosphere. Thanks for all you do for your customers!!!

I just got my hair done today and I loved it. My stylist name was Dee. The instructors there were fabulous. I would recommend going there the next time you need to get a haircut.

Ashleigh is the BEST!! If you need color or cut definitely book an appointment with her! She is eager to learn and has such a positive attitude! I recently had my hair done by her and I was so happy with the results! She is a perfectionist! I cannot remember her instructors name only that she was short, pretty, with brown hair is very knowledgeable!

I went in to just get a trim and style and left looking and feeling amazing! The energy is great! Everyone is in a good mood, smiling laughing having a good time! Sandra & Ernier are absolutely the best! Very attentive making sure my first experience was incredible and it was!! I will definitely return!

I was afraid to have a newbie do my feet or hair, but Esperanca was amazing. I get my feet done all the time but this was the best. I guess I'll be back normally. Esperanca took her time and made sure I was taken care of like a professional technician. I am very picky and did not want to come here but I am extremely excited esperanca did my feet in this good Sunday before my 8 days vacation.

My daughter and I went in 5 months ago fro services and they were timely, very professional, and did a great job. Se had a fullset that was very nicely done being that I myself has been a nail tech for 18 years I was impressed being that they looked so good coming from a school. My hair was better than the previous stylist from a licensed pro.

People that go to a beauty school expecting 5 star treatment need to realize you are going to people in training and you are their test subjects. If you want 5 star service and have high expectations don't go to a school giving them students a hard time. Go to a upscale salon and pay the upscale price. You pay for what you get but if you get a student that does good work you get more than you pay for.

I know that I can go to Sunstate and get quality services for great prices! Recently I was in a serious time crunch and wanted to get services done before going out of town. The Sunstate staff squeezed me in and between the instructor and the student they made sure they took care of me quickly while still giving me great results.

I was a student at Sunstate and graduated 5 years ago. I've been a successful hair stylist since. I was reading some of these reviews and think they are just ridiculous. I'm sorry, but sunstate is a school. If you want an upscale salon experience, go to an upscale salon. If you want to have your hair colored at a discounted price and chose to go to a school to have it done, you have to have an open mind. They're doing the best with what they've learned. I WOULD recommend Sunstate for school and for services. I've been back a few times and have had all positive experiences.

I've used Sunstate for almost 5 years. For the most part I have always been happy with the cuts and color I've received. However the last time I went I left in tears. After getting the same color for a year they suddenly were trying to talk me out of it. They tried to insist that I get more highlights in my hair when I explained I wasn't interested in them after it damaged my hair the last time. The student never once talked to me so her teacher did. When I explained all my concern she grabbed another teacher or whatever over. In front of both the student and first teacher I had to explain my concerns to this new person. I was told I either do the mystery color or I could leave. I attempted to go back a day later to talk to somebody else. I wasn't asking for anything free...Another teacher came over while I was talking and tried again to tell me that they were the professionals and I would do whatever they thought was best. I fully understand that this is a school but it was overall horrible customer service. I ended up going to Regency to have my hair done. The staff there listened to me, pulled out a color book and came up with something that work-without the need of highlights.

I have received wonderful services here and return almost monthly for color or cuts. The instructor's are very knowledgeable and guide the students very professionally. The prices are so affordable. If you are looking to be in and out this is not the place for you. You will need to be very patient!!

The way you're handling the Covid-19 epidemic is genuinely embarrassing. You are not putting the safety of your students and staff first. I was intending on attending the school myself sometime this year, but at this stage this school is 100% blacklisted.

I was supposed to start school here in a little less than two weeks and was very excited. Unfortunately, life threw a lot at me recently, so much that it would have been impossible to go to school. I fully intended to come back in about 6 months once I was settled again and had the time, but when I went in and met with the director she seemed incredibly cold towards me. She made me feel bad for my decision and was throwing it in my face about how I had tried to go to school years ago and it hadn t worked out for me then, and that I need to go to school sooner than later. It s nice to know that I would have gone to a school where the person in charge has no sympathy for its students.

I loved the Teachers and education while attending, with every school you have immature students so expect that. Staff always friendly, questions always answered and they are always up on the latest trends!

To all who wish to obtain a license and study here. Run away from this school! They will learn absolutely nothing. The evil comes from the administration to the quality of the teachers, which is terrible. They don't care about students. Feel so bad for the training nail techs especially. This review does not reflect the work of the training techs or anything else BESIDES the nail teacher who is older with short hair. When I got my nails done at the salon, she was not helpful to the girls at all. She was barely anywhere to be found whenever they had questions, and just straight up had an awful personality. I recommended to the girl doing my nails to train 1 on 1 with another certified nail technician, because they definitely aren t learning it from Ursula.

This is why this is called Sun State ACADEMY! People like you really tick me off. These people are trying to learn and you just wanted great hair for a cheap price. Go to a pro and pay the price next time!

I m usually very tolerable and a pleasant customer, I tip well, I leave good reviews, but this place got me. Very slow and unfriendly service, the teacher nor student didn t know what they were doing with my hair. It s very thick, dry, and wavy/curly, so I get my hair is hard to work with, I wish they could have admitted that and transferred me to a different person. Alls I asked for was a simple trim (maybe 2-3 inches my hair is VERY long), and to add some layers. The trim is uneven, there s some chunks that are my original length, and no layers were added at all (which I m almost glad about just seeing the trim).

Worst school ever. I hated everything. The admission office is the worst. Yelled at me when I decided or more like realized what a horrible school and how they pretty much called me an idiot. I'm currently at Florida academy. And all honestly it's much better than this "school"

I attended Sunstate not once but twice. The administrative staff was magnificent and stayed on top of all the pesky paperwork we needed to succeed. The instructors made the learning environment fun and informative. As both a Cosmetology graduate and Full Specialty graduate I am completely satisfied with the level of education my instructors bestowed upon me. They always helped out when we needed it. I've been out of school for a couple of years now and have been successfully using my licenses to attain my career goals! I thank Sunstate for preparing me for my career!

I spoke to the director of Sunstate Academy in Fort Myers Florida and when I spoke to him we were trying to ask for somebody that knows how to do 4c type hair and when we were talking to him and trying to get an appointment he was telling us that we cannot pick and choose who we want to do our hair but he also told us that if we knew the person that we wanted specifically we could recommend them. When I came to Sunset last time I left with my hair looking even worse than it already did because the person did not know how to handle my type of hair which is 4c kinky coily. And three people tried to assist and none of them notified me that they did not know how to assist with 4c hair. Him aware of this suggested that I might need to see a profesional even though it was his hair stylist at the school that messed up my hair last time. He told us he s been in the hair industry for 20 years and doesn t what kind of hair I was talking about. But when I called the front desk I asked if anybody knew how to do natural kinky hair she said of course but put me on the line with the director. But he told me it is a first come first serve clinical trial so that means when you walk in anybody can just do and touch whatever they want to your hair and you just have to be OK with them not knowing how to do it. I was going to apply with this school but now I never will because they don t teach their students how to properly and do hair like mine and in the area I stay in that is one of the most hurtful things to hear. All I wanted to get done was a wash, and silk press not to be told that there is a problem with the hair I was born with and that it doesn t exist to the director.

I graduated from Sunstate Academy 3 years ago and I am striving in my career! Amazing teachers and faculty, super friendly and very talented! People need to understand that when coming to a hair school, EVERYONE IS LEARNING. So please have patience with the stylist because he/she is doing the best that they can to make you feel beautiful!

I graduated from sunstate a while back and I still follow everything they do! I learned so much at the school and I met so many people I still talk to today! The school is always there if you need help finding a salon for work or any continuing education you may need... love this school and I refer anyone who wants to go to school and is serious about cosmetology! This school will definitely help you succeed!

First... let me start by saying I was reading some of the reviews and as a former student of Sunstate... if you want salon times and professional quality, you must pay full price at a salon! Remember that when you walk in those doors to recieve a service YOU BECOME A GUINEA PIG! While Yes, you are a paying client, each student is LEARNING the process of professionalism, and service quality which means you could have a student who has mastered either one of those skills or both OR you could have a student who is still honing those skills. DO NOT go there snapping your fingers for timely work or specific specialty styles. If you want that, go to a salon and pay the prices for such.
Now, for the school itself, I graduated 7 years ago from Sunstate academy and let's just say that i was no model student. I had a lot of personal turmoil going on at the time and the staff at Sunstate DID NOT GIVE UP ON ME! I was on the verge of losing my grants and loans and they sat down with me and did a play by play to get me graduated! They saw more potential in me than I saw in myself! But I made it out! Even after graduation I was having a hard time finding "the right salon" and they called me and pointed me in the direction of my current job, which i have been at successfully for 6 years! My first and only salon job, they helped get me there and I have been there happily as a part of their family for 6 years! I also will become manager in August!!! The school really invests in their students and puts forth an interest in their success!!!

One star for the customer service. My hair turned out great, the student (Alisyn) did an amazing job and worked fast, however, the teacher with the long black hair and red glasses was extremely snappy towards me and the student. She actually said "it's not about what I want" because I didn't want a trim at the moment. I was so shocked and appalled at the customer service I received yesterday! When I went to pay they had me waiting at the counter for 10 minutes while the two receptionists gossiped. Terrible, terrible, service. I won't be coming back.

I have been to the salon for the last two weeks getting my hair and nails done. Great service, they really take their time and the instructors are every step of the way. Love the way my highlights turned out and my nails.

I had very long hair. I went in for a hair cut and possible color. The staff from the front desk to the student and instructor were wonderful. I had 7 inches cut and I love the new cut. The color also came out amazing. I am very glad I did this. I have gotten so many compliments on how my hair looks. I will definitely be back.

After going to both Regency and Paul Mitchell Cosmetology Schools, plus regular salons, I thought I was never going to find a decent place to get my hair done. I moved to Fort Myers from Ohio where I had my regular hair dresser and I felt lost down here. I have lots of hair and I know that requires a lot of extra work, but I'm still a recent college graduate without a lot of money to spend. I went to Sunstate Academy (who has lower prices than what I paid anywhere else) and I was so happy with everything! A man named Richard helped me, and even though he plans on being a barber he did an absolutely wonderful job with my hair (especially after a previous school ruined me only 3 weeks prior). The instructors were very nice and listened to what I wanted and made sure that's what I got. The color is perfect and everyone I encountered was very nice. I am most definitely making my next appointment there!

For the price the services are attractive... IF you can tolerate the treatment you receive at the front desk. The same girl is there EVERY time, I m pretty sure she is staff, not a student. She is incredibly rude. JUST BEWARE. She is not willing to do anything extra for her job... including smile

What a great place to learn and get certified in a professional and warm environment. From the staff to the students, SunState academy has always been a fun loving place where students and clients can get the most for their buck! This school really is the best in SWFL!

I'm so happy with sunstate. I went thru 2 of the programs they offered for cosmetology and spa therapies so now I'm Multi licenced for massage,skin care, hair and nails one of the best decisions I've ever made. The school gave me a ton of hands on experience and the ability to be able to market myself, they made the whole process easy and fun. I was able to excel and make really good money coming right out of school. They always have little events going on and i got to do a ton of really cool stuff that looks amazing on my resume including fantasy makeup for shows and competitions. I highly recommend. I still pop in for services every once in a while because you can beat the price they have. Plus they carry some pretty high quality lines for hair and skin.

Got a hair cut from Shawna. Took a while but i expected that(they are students after all). They are very closely supervised. And ask questions whenever they need to. Best $7 haircut I ever got. Usually pay 20 somewhere else. Great job

As a former student the program is great. Some teachers are questionable but most are good and actually teach the best they can. As a client I've never had a problem with a service performed. However the ads I see for the fort myers campus are false because the fort myers campus looks not a single bit like the ads make it look. May I suggest actually making an ad for the fort myers campus at the actual fort myers campus and not using the clearwater campus for the fort myers ad. I've seen this ad across Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and now many other apps. I dont mind seeing the ads but its not showing the correct campus for fort myers.
