The beach at Sunset Beach is beautiful. Totally heavenly! Unfortunately the hotel is a catastrophe. It's getting old. We had a beach bungalow, with a few steps you are right on the sea, which is really great. Some things in the room were broken ... e.g. the shower. But was repaired on request. The breakfast buffet was unfortunately not good at all. There is a pool which you cannot use because it is full of algae. It could be such a nice hotel. A bus stop is nearby, and several restaurants can be reached by bus. In a few minutes you can reach a small shop. You can also rent a car in the hotel, it worked very well, the price was ok. The beach was definitely our highlight.

Having our wedding here 16 years ago and visiting a few times since, we always make an effort to at least pop in for drinks when we are in the Seychelles.
This year it was no exception.
The setting is absolutely beautiful and for me the beach is one of the prettiest you can visit on Mahe.
The drink prices are reasonable and nothing can beat sitting in the bar overlooking the sea, with hundreds of fishes swimming underneath.
We were served by Shristi, who was so welcoming and looked after us during our visit. She really is a gem! I always say, that the staff make a place, smile does not cost anything but can brighten your day and that is what Shristi did for us.

Derelict hotel, minimum service

Derelict hotel, minimum service

Nice location, hotel probably very beautiful at the origin but:
-not maintained at all, everything is aging, equipment, buildings, swimming pool cracks, everything is abandoned (ex: electric cable for the pool lights, cut and lying at the foot of the pool, cracked pool and flooded with 'algae, all the roofs in poor condition covered by a tarpaulin to hide poverty, filled gutters never emptied which therefore collapses by tearing part of the wall with each rain, rooms (2 tested!) in poor condition, door does not close not, dirty, rickety, worn tub.
-Personnel (with the exception of 1 or 2 people) very unpleasant, not very helpful, no hello, no attention for customers in the restaurant section which nevertheless offers prices akin to a 3 star lunch not served because 'the cook is not coming today', the other days the breakfast buffet is systematically not supplied or even empty.
- Price of the restaurant quite expensive (35 / person for dinner in 1/2 pension, otherwise 40 per unit), quite good however. Bar and pleasant semi-private beach.
On our honeymoon, after a wonderful 1st week, we were disillusioned with this 2nd week. fortunately the island is beautiful and the people are very endearing.
>> Sunset to be avoided, anything but a 4 star.

One of the best snorkel spots. Thousands of fish hang around the columns near the hotel restaurant deck. If you want to see something truly amazing, let someone drop a few bread crumbs from the deck while you snorkel - nothing like it in Seychelles.

We stayed at Hotel Sunset Beach from January 22nd, 2019 to January 26th, 2019. The hotel is easy to find, right on the coastal road and there are plenty of parking spaces, but you can also get there by public bus.
I would say the whole hotel is getting on in years. The restaurant manager told us that demolition and a new building are planned in the near future - from my point of view this is urgently needed.

There are two star deduction because of the old and dingy rooms and because of the unfriendly and unmotivated service staff. Another star deduction applies to the price, the costs for the room are customary for the location, but for this old hotel the price-performance ratio is simply not right.

To be emphasized are the excellent location, directly on the sea with a sandy beach with good swimming and snorkeling opportunities, as well as the extensive breakfast buffet. The offer extends to local fruits, various freshly prepared egg dishes, fresh croissants, pain au chocolat and the like, as well as toasts, sausage, cheese, jam and honey. The selection of drinks is also good.

We didn't use the hotel pool or the restaurant, for this reason there is no rating.

In my opinion, the hotel no longer corresponds to its Internet presence.
Wrong price-performance ratio.
Hotel has had its best days.

Positive:
- The beach is right next to the bungalow, but it is only for people with a deep sleep, as it gets very noisy at night due to the waves,
- You can see fish while snorkeling.
- Room is cleaned daily

Negative:
- Dinner / bar / breakfast is not recommended.
Had dinner three times, three times it was annoying to spend money and, in my opinion, to pay overpriced prices.
Drinks: Wine was served unrefrigerated.
The non-alcoholic cocktail was juice with water.
- The breakfast buffet couldn't score either. The cold cuts were left unrefrigerated on the counter, so that almost no guest served them. If fruit or the like was empty, it was only refilled on request. Omelette, or egg, pancakes were freshly prepared.
-Service during the meal: Overall, they came across as rather poorly organized and not very motivated: the service often asked for tea and coffee almost at the end of breakfast. Dinner was e.g. Confused with the next table.
-No ambience

Location:
-Swimming pool no longer beautiful and does not invite you to linger.
- Only the bare essentials are done for the flora, a lot is dried up.
-The roofs of the hotel are maintained by a tarpaulin.
-In the room: worn out inventory: e.g. The inside of the bathtub has stains. Here, too, it seems that only the bare essentials are improved.

to be able to rent.

Scanning through numerous reviews we've got the message: Sunset Beach Hotel is a neglected, unfriendly and even dirty place. Stay away at all cost!
Doing our own research though shown that Sunshine Beach Hotel was by far the best option during the month of August if you are a keen snorkeler. And our main purpose visiting the Seychelles was after all to snorkel.
Thus a difficult position to be in...shall we go for a much snazzier hotel or should we go for the best located hotel conductive to snorkeling even if we have been warned that it is in a severe state of degradation?
We are addicted to snorkeling so we have decided on the latter...so off we went.
What an unexpected surprise!
We arrived late evening (10:00PM) and was greeted by a friendly guy at reception. He efficiently checked us in and taking us to our lovely spacious sea view Junior Suite no. 21.
The bed was beautifully decorated with tropical flowers and everything including the air conditioner was in perfect working condition. The furniture were not brand new but at the same time certainly not shabby at all. The room was clean and the bed linen of high quality. The bathroom was very spacious and had an enormous oval bath tub in. Certainly nothing to complain about. Okay, perhaps I could mentioned that the water pressure was sometimes a bit low.
Waking up the next morning confirmed that the hotel had a top location with surely one of the most attractive beaches on Mahe Island. Believe me, we have made a full two day tour visiting most of Mahe's beaches. The only beach we would have exchanged our SBH-beach for would have been Port Launay.
The swimming pool was cleaned every morning and was absolutely aesthetically beautiful. Yes, there have been some birds around in the open air dining room during breakfast but they were certainly not that great a nuisance. Basically it was usually only one pair of mynahs and two or three very small little doves that were around. According to us they were actually welcome as they were mostly hopping around on the floor. It is quite a mystery that the owners have neglected the grass roofs of the hotel. They were a sore eye but the good news is that the main building's roof has already been decked out with a brand new roof. I believe that the rest of the roofs shall soon have their turn. The breakfast every morning was more than meeting our expectations (certainly not the lavish breakfast buffets you may expect at the UAE's 5 star hotels) but what do you really need more than eggs/omelets, bacon, cold cuts, warm oats, muesli, yoghurt, fresh fruit and so forth and to top it all the staff was really very friendly. I believe that SBH deserve a second chance and I am surely going to be one of the returning guests when we visit the Seychelles again.

Excellent resort, price good food good! If we compare price with other amazing places I think the compromise is more than excellent! Bar serve good and different kinds of cocktails, the bar tender have nice actitud also duty manager during dinner pass to asking how is all. Pool is ok nice beach close to the rooms! If you looking for something no expansive and nice that is the right place for you!

The location of the room was explendid. One of the best beaches I had ever been. However on site says that is it private for guests, but it is not. Service is OK and almost all employers are very friendly, but management is not good, should be improved. We try to have a snacj at 17H00 and nothing available, We had dinner included and in one of the nights some of the menu options had already sold out, with the hotel amost empty... Next time if we stay we try to manage better the meals, probably in Beau Valon that is 5 minutes from car, and with good options.

Nice place but a bit far from everything. Building not very well maintained (roof that deserves to be repaired, sometimes a stroke of paint would be needed to refresh, shower curtain that deserves to be changed). Food without more. No WiFi in the rooms and only a very slow WiFi since the reception. Very friendly staff.

We stayed here for four nights. The beach and the location is really great. The hotel is in poor and unkempt condition. The staff are very polite but unfortunately have no idea about the service. Breakfast and dinner is a real disgrace I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Came to sundowner. Beautiful bar with a great view. Staff was friendly, drinks and sandwich were good. The pool area looked but relatively run down and not inviting. For sundowner but recommended.

We had such a good time at the sunset beach hotel. It's right by the ocean. You get a sea facing room, the restaurant is by the beach. They had a private beach too. This is a beautiful hotel and much affordable than the rest in the area. Really loved this hotel and we would highly recommend this to anyone.

Stayed in this hotel in march 2017. The hotel itself is a bit dated and needs some work but the location is amazing. The beach offers amazing snorkelling which really was the highlight of the trip. The views from the room were really good also.

Nice place whith beatuful view but expensive. More than you want to pay. Services nice but whith no life. Double drinks has only double price. Food are good but not for 4 stars. Ice cream and coffe are on 1 star.

We stayed 4 nights at Sunset Beach Hotel. If you plan to book, I advise you to change your mind quickly even if the setting is beautiful, the rest will make you change your mind:

-Very dark and unsanitary room
(Insects and mosquitoes crushed all over the walls, never cleaned).
-Gecko that wander from time to time in the room.
-leaking air conditioning (with a towel to mop up as the only solution)
-No housekeeping (we barely changed the towels and as far as the sheets are concerned, never).
-No free bottle of water, neither on arrival nor during the stay (you have to pay).
-No WiFi in all hotel rooms.
-Very poor Wi-Fi connection in the lobby.
-Persons not professional and not competent.

In short, to avoid absolutely.

I went to spend the Christmas holidays. The hotel is very very ancient. There were bugs in the rooms and the facilites were also in a bad state. Due to the bad state of the floor I slipped and broke my head. At night there was nobody in reception, everything you see in booking is fake or old. Also it's disgusting to find bugs in your food. I don't recommend this hotel at all, it's dangerous.

Horrible !!!!!!! Dirty, neglected, staff mistreatment. The wifi does not work, they do not even have it in the rooms. You read the opinions and you think it's not that bad, but believe me, it's a real disaster

Hotel is a bit dated however the staff are fantastic, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the food is delicious. Sunset beach has the best snorkelling on the island, much better than the marine park. Would definitely stay again.

We only went for a sunset cocktail at this hotel today and were totally shocked by this place. The cocktail was very high in price and unfortunately total disaster. The pool and bar totally run down and very unhygienic to no maintenance whatsoever. The roofs of the hotel were covered with plastic tarpaulins so it does not rain. We felt extremely uncomfortable here "only as a bar guest" and can really recommend this old hotel to anyone. Total NO GO :-(

We came to this hotel for having lunch. As soon as we arrived we noticed that the hotel is in a very poor condition and dirt was everywhere. At the table the waiter was really unfriendly and literally threw the menu on our table. The table was uber dirty and our hands sticked to the menu bc it was like glew. Not a nice place to go in terms of service and environmental condition. Tough a really nice view.

Location-ok

Location-ok
Infrastructure- poor
Service- worst

Hotel is in dilapidated condition with no fans in the lobby working. Receptionist is so arrogant that they will make you feel like you are the servants.
The so proclaimed WiFi is only available in the lobby area and not in the room.

Even to get cutlery delivered to the room, service charges are to be paid.

Totally overpriced. Never ever go here!

The hotel does not meet the 4 * standard. The location and view of the hotel is great and the size of the room was generous and okay. A car is definitely recommended.
The associated beach is beautiful and not overcrowded, but also not a private beach, as can be read in part.
The service at breakfast was also okay, various egg dishes freshly prepared and a clear selection of fruit, sausage and cheese, figs, dates and various pastries are available.
For the future, you should think about cooling wells at the buffet. The permanent fight of the staff against the cheeky birds is rather funny.
This area also serves as a restaurant in the evening. We ate there once, and due to the mediocre quality and sometimes unfriendly service, we saved ourselves a second dinner there.
The island offers better alternatives, but you have to reserve better and these are a bit more expensive. Hotel guests pay 600 R / pp (~ 40 ) for the complete menu, that's okay for the island. It is a bit more expensive for individual selections, but you save yourself a few 'highlights'.
The view from the bar is great, but the drink there had so much rum in it, the barmaid still has to practice here.
The room furnishings were worn and ailing. The sofa and the lounge furniture on the balcony were worn out and had great signs of wear. The bathroom fittings didn't work at all, rusty, loose and visually disgusting describe the condition best. There was also an ant trail in the bathroom.
During a rain shower, water penetrated the room, which was not removed by the service the next day. You don't actually need TV and WiFi, at least they were available. But I've already seen the TV in an 80s TV series, the picture and the programs were limited to 5 pieces of local TV with a snowstorm and the WiFi is trickling away. It is advisable to purchase a prepaid card.
Compared to the pay TV and the huge telly of the 3 * hotel, the multimedia attempt was rather pathetic.
At first I thought that was ok for below the equator. But after we were on Praslin for 2 days in a 3 * hotel after a 5-day sailing trip, my eyes almost fell out there. So it works and I would do a grave injustice to all other hotels with a better rating.
Conclusion: With little effort, the hotel could be restored to a condition that does justice to the price and location. Until then, the hotel is not a recommendation.

P.S. Google, please update the position, the hotel is around 1 km further, on Sunset Beach :-P

Formerly a very nice hotel with a top location and a breathtaking view, unfortunately it is a bit old and not in good shape due to lack of maintenance, which is a real shame, as a lot could be improved with a little investment Would revive charm. (Plaster is peeling off, stained cushions, thatched roof partly covered with tarpaulin (because leaky?) Etc. It is mostly very empty ;-) The rooms are very clean and except for a few aging fittings in the bathroom, really okay. Comfortably soft beds and pillows.
The dinner (we were only there for two nights) was unfortunately not great, but the breakfast was very good! The drink prices are ok (50SCR for beer or coke including taxes and service; the same applies to the minibar).
Some of the staff is very friendly (porter or the man for the scrambled eggs at the breakfast buffet, for example),
sometimes they seem unmotivated / bored, but are not unfriendly.

All in all, okay.

the sunset beach hotel is a little dated, everything looks a little tired and out of shape, it could definitely benefit from some renovation and cleanup

We chose this hotel a little bit at random, and had only good surprises.
First, the breathtaking view of the ocean and the sunset from the bedroom, as well as a superb terrace offering the same view.
Then, the quality of the gastronomy: we had chosen a half-board diet, the evening meals were plentiful, varied and with choice, on Tuesday and Saturday an orchestra was present with a buffet dinner at the height of the "classic" meals. other evenings.

The value for money is unbeatable, around 20 per day for two people (drinks).
The hotel's position on the island is ideal ... 6 minutes drive from Beauvallon for diving and restaurants, pretty beaches, not too far from the airport ...
It is certain that the hotel is aging, but not unduly disturbing. If you are looking for tranquility, and a disproportionate view of the ocean, this is the place!
We can't wait to rediscover this place once the renovations are done! (Planned for this winter 2018) ....
