Fixed my forks, and have sorted out my gears and front brake cable whilst maintaining social distancing. Then put on my new tires without charging having given me information on which were the best to match my needs. Can't complain at all.

Really quick and helpful service - whilst trying to fix broken spokes on my wheel, they helped out twice at no cost and gave lots of advice, without an appointment. Good guys!
Recently bought a bike from Summertown Cycles and have to say that they always have a great range of male and female machines and their service is second to none. My bike needed a series of adjustments and there was no quibble they just did the work until it was running perfectly. Their staff are knowledgeable and friendly and more than anything they can be trusted! Going to be buying another bike from them soon. I wholeheartedly recommend them.
Summertown Cycles have a great team of knowledgeable and helpful people. Big stock of quality bikes at the right price and student special deals. Highly recommended.
Great service provided by Sam this morning! I learnt a lot about the new assisted electric bikes that Sam kindly brought over to our office for us to test this morning.
popped in this morning as I was passing as crank cover had just come off when out on a training ride... the guys were super helpful and tightened it back on for me...and I was back on my way... no charge and done in 5mins.... awesome service from a great LBS
Really good shop, had a wide range of products and the staff are always ready to go the extra mile to help you out. I will for sure be returning as soon as possible.
Went into Summertown Cycles for the first time today for an emergency visit after getting a second puncture of my ride and not having a spare inner tube. The staff were extremely helpful, despite it being busy - helped me out with my inner More
We bought 2 Frog children's bikes from here. One about 9months ago and the second just a couple of weeks ago. The second had a puncture in the first few days. Unfortunately the hole was right on the seem of the inner tube where it hadn't bonded properly but also meant it wouldn't mend properly. This was no ones fault, just something that happens.
I spoke to Summer Town Cycles and the response from the first employee was very unhelpful and rude. That really set me up to write bad reviews all round. I held my breath and waited a couple of days to speak to the manager (Jonny). I am pleased to say he was very helpful and resolved the situation promptly and without fuss. Thanks you. Happy to endorse and recommend these guys (provided you don't get the unhelpful little git I spoke to first time).
This is a very good bike store. I bought my bike from them, had my free inspection and every visit to them (buying new accessories, asking advice) went without any problems. All those chaps in the store (there are a few! - never saw the same one twice) know their bikes very well and are very good with customers.
I just purchased an ebike from Summertown Cycles as my daily commute by bike has become a little further. Great knowledgeable staff and a friendly local bike shop vibe.
Staff really helped me buy and fit child seat for the first time. Thanks very much! Feel as safe as we can be now. Even got a cycle helmet with an elephant on it - safety and style!
Me and my wife brought her bike in for repair and spoke to one of the guys. He was very quick to point out that the stem was raised pass the maximum limit line and on closer inspection, a bump up the curb could of been a disaster for my poor wife with the stem falling out! He then took a good look over the bike explaining step by step not only what was worn out on the bike but also gave helpful tips on how to maintain the bike to make it last longer. I've used the shop 3 or 4 times now and always come away satisfied and with a sense that i've learned something new so that i can look after my bike and most importantly make sure its safe to ride. top shop with the customers best intentions at mind. My wife even baked them a cake!!!!
Had my bike serviced here which was ok but then when I showed up for puncture repair they said they can t help me as they re too busy. I was running late to work with two kids in the trailer. Staff wasn t helpful at all. Thankfully the bike shop in Jericho was much more accommodating.
Repair service in this shop is dire. Bike sent in to repair a puncture? Tire flat again within a day. Bike sent in to fix brakes? Bike leaves with brakes disconnected. Bike sent in for new gearset? Bike comes out with non-functioning gears. We've given this shop plenty of chances when it comes to repairs and they always let us down. Steer clear (assuming you can steer and they've not 'repaired' that).
Polite and courteous staff who always provide expert and impartial advice and willing to help you in any way they can.
They always have a good variety of stock in range and is my go-to place to check for parts & tools to get the same day before ordering online (I inevitably always leave with more than i intended to buy).
Would definitely recommend to bicycle riders of any and all abilities.
Thank you Summertown Cycles I can't recommend them enough. On my way to work yesterday the chain came off my bike. So once I got to Summertown I popped in to see if they could have a look at possible sorting it for me and the very lovely man did there and then straight way. Thank you so much.
Another very helpful experience yesterday - when my seat on my e-bike wouldn't stay up on way home from work. Went straight to bike shop & was immediately helped & problem resolved. Thank you!
Really helpful. Bought a new pair of pedals from them after one was broken, but was unable to get them off as rusted on hard. So I booked in to their workshop to get them removed but did on the spot with no charge as I'd bought the pedals from them
Always take my bikes here for various fixes. Fantastic attitude by all the staff and no job too tough. Good honest pricing too. Easy to locate shop as well.
Popped along to check if my bike needed any work. After a speedy check, I was told that everything was ok with the bike. Great honest customer support and advice.
Brought a wheel in to have several spokes replaced and the wheel trued, almost a complete rebuild of the wheel. Price for the service was very reasonable and clearly laid out.
Later brought in another wheel with a seized cassette locking ring, which I couldn't budge with my tools, try as I might, and they had a go at it there and then, despite having other jobs on the go. They managed to free the seized part on the spot and didn't charge me for it. Excellent service!
A polite and friendly team, who seem equally at home helping novices and more knowledgeable customers.
Was having an issue with my chain and brought my bike in for repair. Really lovely guy (I wish I had remembered to ask for his name!) fixed it within 20 minutes and even noticed some other issues that he offered to fix as well. Great shop with knowledgeable and helpful employees. Would definitely recommend if you're looking to buy a new bike or need a tune-up. Cheers!
I took my bike into the shop the other day looking for some advice on fixing my brakes. They offer appointments for a mechanic to carry out repairs but I'm very dependent on my bike and needed it the next day so wanted to fix it as soon as possible. I bought the parts I needed, which were sold at a reasonable price and worked on it myself. I had a lot of help from one of the kind staff members who was there who adjusted the brakes for me once I'd changed the cables and gave it a thorough check over. I would highly recommend this shop if you need anything at all - they go above and beyond to help you where they can, they are knowledgable so can give you advice, it is well-stocked for both parts and fully-working bikes, and they want to give you the best service possible for a good price.
AVOID. Bought 2 bikes 6 weeks ago, one for my wife and one for myself. At first we were really happy, as most places had sold out of bikes, and we managed to get the bikes we wanted.
My wife's first ride and gears didn't seem right, so took to a local dealer to save the journey back to summer town cycle to avoid long queue time. Turns out handle bars were loose and front wheel loose, aswell as gears not being adjusted correctly.
Disappointed but put it down to the pressure the shop was under. Took bikes back for 1st service to give them a chance. Again after a long wait got the bikes. My wifes bike was in a worse state than when we left it. Turns out front derailer was bent. At this point it was obvious it was down to service standard. Eventually the " so called bike mechanic " came out with the bike. I asked if it was fixed and he said sarcastically " dont know what I'm doing" after Obviously overhearing my comment and started arguing with me.
He tried to accuse me of damaging the bike!! The shop has no one taking control, full of young males with attitude, but worse of all , they have no idea how to service a bike.
Please dont risk your familys safety, just avoid and get bike serviced by professionals!
Would have given 0 stars, but gave 1 star for having the bikes we wanted.
Had the bottom bracket and suspension bearings changed on my Trek EX8. Excellent job, bike feels like new. The great thing with Summertown cycles is the bike nearly always comes out right first time. Friendly, competent service!
I bought my bicycle in Summertown Cycles and received excellent advice when comparing bicycles and what I wanted one for. I have taken the bike for repairs and services as it needed them and have always had helpful, and polite service at what i consider are reasonable prices.
Cheers!
Very helpful staff who will sort out minor problems there and then and advise on maintenance issues to look out for before the bike becomes unsafe. I've had excellent friendly service both with buying a bike as well as queries and small fixes which they did not charge for.
Having been in oxford just over a week I was riding home for a quick break between my 10hour shift when my gear chain got jammed. I pulled up on the side of the road and attempted to unfasten the trapped chain with my freezing hands. After many minutes and hands which now looked like they d committed bike murder I started to walk down Banbury Road, useless bike in tow. With my hands awkwardly grasping the handles and grease dripping off my fingers I tried not to cringe as I passed pedestrians. I was contemplating the odds of awfulness in relation to the 6 hours I d now been awake when I saw Summertown Cycles. Upon walking through the door, I was ushered away to the sink which held the grease removal soap, before I could barely utter out the chain jammed . Once my hands were once again recognisable and resembled a more greyish colouring, I walked through the busy store to find my bike. I found it at the front and wait patiently, thinking of how I can explain that I have no money on me but I am trustworthy enough to return with cash, deciding whether to go for the I swear on my life or the I can give you my house keys so you know I ll be back . The young man at the register turns to me asking are you being looked after? Not knowing where to start I look down and my bike and mumble an um but realise my bike is fixed. I look around at the group of men working in tandem and turn back to the register saying yes, yes I have, thanks . I kinda just walk around the store not really knowing who to thank as I have no idea who actually fixed my bike. I finally make eye contact with someone who tells me it s fine, don t worry bout the cost . I stare at this guy who has no idea I couldn t pay him anyway and say thank you almost unbelievably. I tell him I really appreciate it and explain my situation and all he replies is, no worries just chuck us a good review if you have time . So here I am writing my first review for anything because for the first time I actually think something is worth giving a perfect star rating.
Really unpleasant and unhelpful staff, they serviced bike and then wanted to charge 170.00 for storage for a couple of months so never got my bike back, the whole thing was extremely upsetting and unpleasant and avoid at all 'costs'. I still feel upset by them and it is two years later, go to the lovely shop in Jerico or the other one near to Mallams in the centre.
The Cube Elly e bike I recently bought from Summertown Cycles has brought enjoyment back to cycling. Hills are now no problem and as a non car driver I have found a new freedom. The choice of bikes/accessories and excellent service makes for a 5* review rate , Janet[Stephen`s wife]
Great bunch of folks there with a helping mentality to the fellow bike community. I rushed to the shop today just before my ride with a derailleur issue, and they understood my situation and did a quick fix in spite their extreme busy schedule. I had a great ride in the pleasant weather condition.
These guys are great. I've been taking my bikes there for years for maintenance etc. Always very good work, and friendly service. If ever parts are defective (has only happened once to me), they stand by their products and replace for free. This is business where customer satisfaction clearly matters, and they get it right.
Was stranded with a faulty crank arm - Summertown mechanics helped me patch it up to get home, advised on what needed fixing, offering to do it or let me source components myself and did not want any money for the fix up and advice. Absolute gems of a Local Bike Shop. The bike is now with the sister shop BikeZone on St.Michael Street as that's close to home for me. Service with either of them has always been superb! Highly recommend!
As a longstanding customer with family bikes, this is one of my favourite shops of all in Oxford. Expert but not patronising, and (when not too busy) very happy to do the quick fitting job that takes them one minute while I would struggle for five. This is what a shop should be.
We've been using summertown cycles for the last 5 years for everything from buying spare inner tubes to high end road bikes and have always found their service to be excellent. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable, I definitely recommend Summertown cycles for bike servicing and bike buying!
Summeetown Cycles have been instrumental in not only supporting my bike purchase from them but also in ensuring I had the right bike and size they have helped me to understand more about the road bike than anybody the guys are relaxed but with that said they have and continue to support and encourage my new found hobby of road racing, furthermore i am prone to being a little indecisive but they have always patiently supported thiis i have bought bikes from the ship as well as having numerous repairs and modifications done including test rides for prospective purchases i am and will remain a life long customer also check out some of their "best in area deals and discounts" which can be outstanding
Had a problem with my gears which turned out to me more involved than just a broken cable. Staff very helpful and gave realistic estimates of cost. All sorted out really efficiently and bike is going SO well now - better than it's felt for ages so really happy.
Great shop. Rented a bike from there for 2 weeks which was brilliant, did exactly what it was needed for. Excellent group of guys and a lovely girl. Made the whole process very easy. Defiantly will rent bikes again from here in the future!
Great shop. Shame they get customers like Charles Wong. What a load of crap! If you realy understood the idea of supporting your local bike shop that review would be very different. People like him are what put small independent shops out of business. Shame there is not a idiot filter on Google reviews.
Very helpful. Really great service.Good I was changing my pedals but could not loosen the bolts. They loosened them for me with no charge. I then went in for grease to use to fit the new pedals and they persuaded me that I already had the correct grease.
Great bike shop with extremely helpful staff. I went in with a broken bike light and they spent 30 mins fixing it without charging me a penny. You can tell they genuinely care about helping people and won't try to upsell you if it's not necessary. Couldn't recommend more.
Excellent bike shop. Top notch service. Highly rate. Tried other oxford shops but now I come here. Have to commend the community ethos of the shop. Watched the owner offer to fix the postie's bike as a favour. Just thought it was a lovely touch.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Based on my experience they are always willing to give advice at no charge and they are honest about the necessity of repairs even if it means the costumer pays them less. I definitely recommend them!
Fantastic staff, very friendly and helpful. I have taken my bike or parts of it to them and they have helped me each and singe time right on the spot. Thank you!
A local cycle shop suggested I call in to talk to staff here. I wanted to discuss the pros and cons of upgrading to a specific new bike. Sadly I was met with a Covid "friendly" welcome. It seemed not possible to look at and to discuss the possibilities of a future purchase. Having a conversation all be it terse, at the front door was not what I was expecting. I left feeling as though I had the plague. I have been to three cycle shops in the city and have not experienced this before. A gentleman came out a couple of minutes later to ask if he could help. By this point I decided to take my hard earned pennies elsewhere.
Would give 0/10 if I could. Completely unprofessional - took a morning off work to collect my bike, (I was told it was ready), came in, and the back wheel had become buckled whilst at the store, (they had phoned me up over various issues, including changing the breaks, there is no way they could not have noticed it beforehand if it were an issue before) - Was told my bike would be ready in an hour, half an hour in, told it wouldn't be ready until tomorrow. Whole morning wasted. You spend so much money on repairs just for them to completely mess up your day too, by incompetence, followed by terrible customer service.
I'm always ready to support local, indeed I've been to Summertown cycles whilst it was still a garden shop and competed with Denton's cycles and the grumpy repair man in his living room on Woodstock Road. And so I took a basic, buckled wheel from a kids bike there last weekend to be trued and have a spoke replaced. They kindly sent a text saying it couldn't be repaired and quoted for a replacement. But without authorisation, they did the work anyway, presumably expecting me to pay when I arrived (this is North Oxford after all). When I asked to have the original wheel back to take elsewhere they reluctantly offered to have another go. Its clear that the shop has been under invested in for years. The workshop spills into the sales area, and the 'work music' is distracting. Its difficult to browse for accessories without moving bike stands or stepping on spanners. The staff are young, which is fine, but I'm not sure they understand the 'charging by the hour rate' that's quoted for work, rather than offering a rough idea of what the job would actually cost. Perhaps they just expect people to pay the bill, like I was.
I have heard a number Chinese friends who had similar cases in Summertown store, here is just a reminder for future Chinese friends.
I cannot imagine, even i just wanted to use the dedicated 50 pounds bicycle government vouch to fix the front brake in my bike, the Summertown store would like to set a minimum amount of payment about 88 pounds, by pointing so many things to be fixed in my bike.
And two different ppl were processing my booking at different prices.
And there would be a two weeks queue to be my turn to fix the bike in the store.
In the end, i had no choice and cycled to Cowley to fix the bike perfectly, with 50 pounds vouch, within one day.
If you feel you are overcharged in this store, pls immediately leave, either fix the bike by yourself, or go to the other stores will save you more than 50 pounds.
The folks at Summertown Cycles are very efficient and considerate. In the process of looking for a bicycle, I brought two used bikes to them and they checked them over free of charge and gave me thoughtful advice, considering safety, expense, and general planned usage of the bicycle. They always take the time to answer all questions and I always feel well taken care of and satisfied when I leave the shop. If you're looking for a pleasant bike-shopping experience, go to Summertown.
