Thank you for making Mum's 70th Birthday a special occasion. The food was amazing, the wine pairing added perfection and a sweet birthday cupcake just added another layer of loveliness to the whole experience. Thank you Stokehouse for making my Mum very happy!

Okay, words can not describe the culinary experience we had at Smokehouse! Every single item we ordered was heavenly. Order the Ceviche, it is probably the best I've ever tasted. The steak was perfectly prepared, and frankly I can not think of a single thing that did not impress us. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I'd go back there any day of the week (if I could afford to).

very pretentious place. food is quite tasteless.. it is all about the presentation.. if you really like flavorful food Stakehouse is not the right place for you..
your Neapolitan - vanilla semifreddo desert is not a semifreddo at all.. just a pile of sugar.. Ambiance and service were fairly good.

It was my first time to this iconic St Kilda restaurant, and it has truly lived up to its reputation! Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and lovely; offering wonderful suggestions as we chose our degustation delights.

The food is most worthy of a fine dining restaurant...subtle flavours, fulfilling portion sizes and delicious accompaniments.

Stokehouse...we were stoked to spend our 12month anniversay in your gorgeous restaurant

Food & service always great in a stellar beachfront location but new restearant design makes for a very noisy room. The interior architects have 100% missed it and materials already look dated. Can't even hear the waitress read the specials.

STOKEBAR offers a new way to experience Stokehouse, catch up with friends for drinks in a prime location. Enjoy some sea air on the terrace perfectly positioned to capture the sunshine. Indulge in fresh, contemporary cocktails, order from the award-winning wine list, enjoy a snack from the Raw Bar menu or share a dessert.

We returned to the Stokehouse for another meal, this time celebrating my wife's birthday. The food and service were up to their usual high standards. This is our go to place when we want a quick bite to eat (downstairs) and if we are wanting to go the full dining experience we head up stairs. Quality produce and extensive quality wine list

Amazing build and fit out. If you are into your architecture you will enjoy this place.

Service was spot on, as expected. Food was far from a left down. Prices were actually quite reasonable for such a high profile restaurant.

Crowd was pretty mature on the night we went but didn t ooze of snobbery.

Drinks list wasn t missing much.

All in all, a great place to dine out with whatever crew you are heading out with.

I recommend this place for special occasions!

The food was amazing and all the staffs were very professional and polite. But the portions are small and it s a little bit pricey.

A very disappointing experience.

A very disappointing experience.
I took my Aunt there to celebrate her birthday as it had been some time since my last visit.
The restaurant was quiet empty, so we asked for a table at one of the windows. We were declined this request after being told it was a little difficult to expect a table at window at "this late stage" which happened to be 12.30pm and only about 5 tables being occupied out of the entire restaurant.
After selecting from the menu which seem to be 80% seafood dishes (my Aunt being allergic to seafood) we had very little left to choose from, so she ordered a starter and a side dish.
We also requested bread so she could use this to supplement her meal. Finishing our meals which were quiet average and of disappointing portion size, our table attendant decided to take away the bread and crisp bread that was still on the plate without even asking if we had finished with it...not polite. We both planned to finish it while talking and finishing our beverages.
I also had 1/2 bread left on my side plate (in which I was enjoying), however when I went to take another bite I noticed he collected this also with out me even noticing...and once again, without asking if I had finished with it. RUDE!!! Subsequent to this, I ordered yet another plate of bread with which again...a repeat of what happened with the first plate.
Taken away from the table unfinished and without asking if we had done so...And PLEASE, if you have to use a crumber to clean away crumbs ect, that is fine, but how about asking first before almost knocking my glass out of my hand to do so...some warning...please!!
It felt as though he was in a rush to clean up after us and get us to move on. We felt very intimidated by him and extremely rushed. Wasn't a fan of his attitude the minute we were seated to be quiet honest.
I remember being a guest many times at the Stoke House before this new one had been replaced. I used to enjoy the atmosphere, food and service which was why i returned many times over.
However after this experience in the new restaurant which also if I may add feels like you are walking into an office block building, (Zero street appeal and not even a sign to indicate the building) I was sadly disappointed and will not return and will certainly not give it any recommendation to others.
Oh and BTW, as we left the restaurant, not one table around all the windows had been occupied by any other guests. In fact, by the time we left, the place was almost empty. However, we noticed one guest arrive while we were eating, and her table attendant allowed her to chose any table she would like at a window (go figure)
So, if you happened to be placing visitors at certain tables purely by judging them on first impressions, this would be very disappointing.
So many other places to chose from with 10 X the service and meals.
RIP OFF!!!!......Never to return

My favorite restaurant in Melbourne! Layout,
Food, Staff, Service, Views, Cocktails!
The bar area and terrace is really something to see and experience. Peak view overlooking the stunning ocean and MAGESTIC sunsets!... Nobody can be in a bad mood up there or ever has been in my experience. It is pricey but well worth it! The view is DIVINE!

This is becoming a weekly ritual. Prime location and a top spot after a game of golf at Albert Park nearby. Wear formal attire or glam up if you can, especially in the evenings and when dining in the restaurant. You can enjoy a cocktail and snack at the terrace even if you are not wanting to dine, or just fancy a drop in for cocktail hour!

I find the crowds friendly and unpretentious. Have met some really lovely people up there and my family enjoy it too. Don't confuse it with downstairs, you must go upstairs to get to the Stokhouse. Pontoon is downstairs. People often get it confused as the old Stokehouse was downstairs!

Finally, cocktails in this venue are on point. Staff and Chefs are down to earth, friendly and SKILLED. Love must be their secret ingredient as everything is delicious and this is my happy place.

The barmen are also handsome so the view is really nice on the inside too!

Thanking Angie, Olie, Lee, Mateo and Henry (to name a few), for your amazing personalities and quality service. Also Josh for making the best Negroni I've ever had! Love your work!

Thank you Stokehouse for your consistent excellence and being fabulous!

Attractive setting on the beachfront. Formal dining as well as a separate bar area with standing and seating sections. Reasonable drinks range. Food was delicious. I recommend fish of the day (king fish when I had it), steak or fish and chips

Ordered appetizers and hadn't even finished entree was brought out. Asked for lemon 2 times to go with our appetizers and still waiting, not enough variety for main and very overpriced regarding what you got in entrees. Though our booking was for 9pm and expected to enjoy our meal we were very rushed and felt they wanted us out asap. Not sure if we'll go back or if we'll be recommending. We had guests from overseas and wanted to impress, they were definitely impressed for the wrong reasons

4 of us celebrated a birthday there. It's a nicely decorated restaurant with beautiful water views. We have ordered about 12 dishes (not including deserts) mainly raw bar , starters and snacks, one duck main dish. Out of those ones I would reorder only the beef tartar. Nothing special about the food for the price and amount you pay. For desert we've tried 3 dishes, 2 of them were very nice , but one (pineapple) was again nothing special taste wise, but nice presentation.
The food was served very slowly (for Monday). We've mentioned that we want to share. But they still brought one small dish at the time and we have to wait 30 mins till another one comes! I am happy to wait for 30 mins for the main dish but for raw snacks!!!
Also for fine dining cutleries looked very outdated and scratched.
Overall , I would not return unless only for deserts.

Has to be one of the best kitchens on Australia but you sure pay for it. I think its worth it for those special occasions. Right on the beach. Everything is shiny n expensive . its five stars so dress smart casual. Get your taste buds n wallet ready for pleasure ... Yummmmm .

I thought the service was wonderful the staff were very friendly..
but the quality of the food for the price you pay leaves a lot to be desired.
my steak was ordered medium but it came out raw ,with a lot of fat , parts of it I couldn't cut with a knife due to the outer fat content.
I just felt that the small quantities for the price was not satisfactory
Unfortunately I won't be coming again or recommend the restaurant. kind regards Chris Pecora

Very nice. Great cocktails. Nice starters. The best view! Amazing waiters. Pricey but also very special tasty food.

We enjoyed ourselves and our waiter was great.

The only whops was that they served a snack for me that had dairy in it even though I am intolerant and allergic but they where so awesome and nice to apologize and it ended up being total worth it.

Thank you and I will see you again!

My husband and I had a lovely dining experience. The food was excellent and even though one of the staff forgot to bring out our oysters, we still had a fantastic experience! So much attention to detail, there was so much care given to us. The only reason why I m only giving Stokehouse 4 stars is that the windows could have been cleaner. The design of the windows makes them very tricky to clean, I understand this, but if the view is one of the reasons why this restaurant is so popular, then I think this really needs to be looked after. The salt and dirt on them was all I could see when looking out the window! We ll still certainly be back regardless

Firstly, the white chocolate mousse + blueberry & chocolate brownie cake we pre-ordered was DIVINE. Everyone on our table absolutely raved about it - perfect way to end our evening with a light and delicious dessert.
The wagyu was delicious and the 'Fish and Chips' (K.G. whiting) was perfectly portioned and a beautiful piece of fish. Even though we had a miscommunication about two of our orders, the staff were completely accommodating and resolved the situation quickly and with no fuss. We had a stunning view of the bay at sunset. The downside: we had a bit of a long wait for food and the noisy atmosphere contributed to a few misunderstandings with the staff.

Improved over the one that burnt down. Very trendy crowd. Guys in suits with no socks, if you get my drift. Expensive drinks and I hate being served a Manhattan in a champagne cocktail glass. Give it to me in a low ball.

Our table was a bit delayed, however, our server was great.

The food was just amazing, we ordered only fish dishes.

Everything came out in good time and was well balanced and flavourful.

Amazing service, location, menu! From the wonderful bar and wait staff, to the inventive and delicious dishes on offer, there is nothing to fault about this beach front restaurant! My only regret was having breakfast before coming here. We had a few snack menu items (smoked eel toast, tuna, fish tacos) and the 2 main specials (bug and wagyu 8+ marble score yum!). Need to come back and try the fish and chips, we had food envy from other tables!! Would give 6 stars out of 5 if it were possible.

Booked for a birthday lunch on a quite day, seated at next to a pole blocking the view with very dusty windows (dampened the experience). Service was average, meals were nice. A lot of hype, better places for the price

A Melbourne institution that has had a great facelift following a fire that burned the original place down. One of the best wine lists in town, service to match and the food is consistently good.

On a gorgeous, sunny afternoon we sat "overlooking" the beach. I love the set up, however the wooden blocks used to eat off were a bit low and I know it's not proper etiquette to cross your legs or put your feet up, but I found myself doing so several times. Food was served quickly, big thumbs up. The fried calamari is to die for, so flavoursome and by that, I didn't feel the need to dip into the accompanied aoli. The ice-berg lettuce with creme fraiche salad was substandard. Prawn bun was tasty with a bite, bun could have been fresher. Nevertheless will be back to try the pizza and hopefully will be greeted by staff on arrival.

We attended on a Thursday night and the restaurant looked completely full. The service was good, attentive and friendly but the upselling was definitely in the staff's training package. The new restaurant fails in capturing any of the atmosphere the old stoke house had, timber walls, floors and large windows exacerbate the sound level - perhaps further devouring the atmosphere of the restaurant and resembling a Fast Food restaurant overtaken by a class of year 7's.

The owners have opted for the modern sophisticated approach - original but perhaps what the market demands in 2017. The food was very well presented, of good quality and mostly fairly priced. Portions were perhaps on the smaller side.

Sitting there I was thinking the view of the esplanade and bay are perhaps the only similarity this restaurant has with the old until I had seen a couple sitting in the downstairs outside area enjoying a glass of red.

I had dinner with 2 of my friends - who I haven't seen in a long time - tonight. The food was good...but the service was horrendous from a waitress named Alana. Her attitude did not match the supposed standards of a fine dining restaurant the Stokehouse is supposed to have. She was rude and had an unapologetic attitude after we told her she has whisked away my friend's plate that had the zucchini starters - which she had only put on her plate - without asking her permission! Her response was "it's ok, I can give you back one zucchini if you want". Again, when my friend's mains came with shellfish (my friend is allergic to the latter) this Alana insisted that she told us the mains had shellfish in it. No apologies whatsoever. Implying my friend had ordered the mains (to which she was allergic to) on her own volition after being told there was shellfish in it??
It was a shame! It was the first time ever I had requested for a waitress to not serve our table. Her attitude doesn't even suit her working in a pub!
Most likely my friends and I will never go back.

Had lunch here and was very impressed. Really nice venue with a great view of the ocean if you are facing that side. People who book the earliest are given priority over the tables by the window, so bear that in mind when booking and you definitely need a reservation whether going for lunch or dinner. Food was pretty good, apparently the steak was excellent. The staff were very friendly and pleasant, the sommelier especially.

Lovely modern place near ocean and younger staff helpful to correct mistakes but I can't shake the feeling that we weren't welcome there. Not hip/cool/young/expensive looking enough perhaps. The manager served us drinks at the bar finishing a bottle of bubbles during the pour and it wasn't full. Then preceeded to ignore us while we waited for him to fill it. In the end we walked away. My $20 cocktail was forgotten as well. I felt insignificant and unwelcome. It's all money and I had some to spend. Why does a rude and cranky bar tender get to judge his clients? Expensive and tiny drinks. Better to bring your own and sit on the beach. Pretentious is the word that comes to mind, unfortunately.

Wake up Stoke House . Friendly staff , good atmospher. But never again ..too pricey.

We finally visited the new Stokehouse on Valentines day for lunch. The staff were friendly, the coffee was great and the cocktails were original and delicious. They describe it as 'relaxed formal' which I think is a great description for a fine dining restaurant overlooking St Kilda beach.

The restaurant had set menu for Valentines but we chose to order a la carte. The staff were really helpful with menu suggestions and we ended up shared several starters and entrees and then had the lamb and the flaxseed gnocchi for mains. Everything was perfectly cooked, beautifully presented and tasted amazing.
We finished up with two perfect desserts and the moved to the bar for a final glass of champagne looking out over the sand and sea.

Stokehouse is on the pricey side, as you'd expect from a fine dining restaurant on the beach - however the food is fabulous and it's definitely worth considering for a special occasion. They also have a more casual bar and a fish and chip kiosk downstairs if you're looking for great food with a more accessible price tag

Beautiful venue. Great food. Fabulous service. Obviously very expensive but it worth it once in a while. They don t have many vegetarian options (only one main) but it s a very unique one.

Extremely disappointed - we asked to be seated near the windows, then the receptionist said tables have been reserved for months . However, upon eating lunch for an hour, all tables along the windows were still unoccupied. In addition, snails moved faster than people who served us so we decided to have dessert elsewhere.

Thank you Stokehouse for making our 10th wedding anniversary a very memorable night. From the moment we walked in the door, your service was first class. We loved everything about our night, the view, the food, the wine, the service. Can't wait to come back!
