Good quality golf and spa hotel. Had a society day recently, very friendly and professional staff. Good food before and after our round. We played the Gainsborough and to be honest I was disappointed, general condition was good however the greens were very slow and variable. The bunkers were in a terrible state, full of mud and very little sand. My expectations were not met, disappointed!

Stayed in one of lodges for a few days for my sons 18th birthday that we were very pleased with. Food in bar and main restaurant were good. Golfing facilities were good too however a couple of the members decided to hit their shots while we were still on the putting green on more than one occasion! we had 3 lots of 4 balls in front of us so couldn't play any quicker! It would have been five stars but you can't check into the lodge until 4pm on the day of arrival and we were also told we couldn't use the facilities until this time either. You have to vacate lodge by 10am on the day of departure so that's a 6 hr turnaround? Surely you could make the check in time 2pm or at least let guests use the facilities from 2pm.

Fantastic day of relaxation. Enjoyed all facilities including large pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Afternoon tea was very tasty with lots of choice. The wife even had a gluten free afternoon tea which would usually consist of a couple of plain sandwiches and stale cake, but here she had 4 different sandwiches and several treats as well. Very impressed. We had booked a back, neck and shoulder coupled massage which was one of the best massages I've ever had. Would definitely highly recommend this spa and will be returning.

Don't let the published pictures fool you. The "spa" was very noisy, has one small sauna, one small sanitarium and one small jacuzzi. Day visits and public have access to the spa also, and no advice was given to us to reserve loungers for our day in the spa as part of our overnight package.

No advice was given to reserve a table for the meal that was part of our package either which resulted in us having to settle for an 8.30 table due to the restaurant having a large 7.30 reservation which I cannot believe they were unaware of when we checked in. It did not feel that SbN attempted to take care of us during our stay other than one very attentive barman who was very pleasant and always willing to do what he could to help. This was a great shame for my wife and I as this was booked for our 1st Wedding Anniversary.

Went here for a private function for my nan's 80th. We had a nice room with private bar and two lovely staff who were fab. Food was very good, only thing I would of changed is a bit more of a gap between courses, our starter plates had barely been removed when the main came out but you could put that down to personal preference. Overall great experience

Set in the Suffolk countryside this golf 'resort' is an excellent choice for small and large groups. Venue and staff able to deal with big events like our 120+ golfers. The two golf courses are challenging but fair. I have been a regular visitor for almost ten years and always look forward to my next visit. Spa facilities are a bonus. Highly recommended.

Very tried in need of lots of investment everywhere rooms, spa, & restaurant. Hotel customer service was terrible, food average. I did not get value of money. On the plus side, the treatment at the spa was excellent ask for a lady called Page, Page the star is for you.

We went for afternoon tea as we had been bought a voucher. The food was very good and plentiful but I feel that if we hadn't pointed out that we were there for afternoon tea we would have got just cream tea i.e. scones and cream and jam.
Found it difficult to make the booking, I think that at present they may be a bit understaffed as speaking to one waiter they were a bit on the back foot due to much higher number of bookings than they had expected, my table reservation hadn't even made it onto the list but they still accommodated us.

Went for a spa day with my best friend last week and it was amazing. We used to do our spa days at another place in Colchester but that has since changed hands so we thought we would try somewhere new and we are so glad we did.

On arrival we went to reception and were given directions to the spa. Spa staff were very friendly. She showed us to the table reserved for us for the day and explained various things to us whilst we enjoyed our complementary coffee.

The whole spa/pool area is fully equipped but is smaller than the other place we used to go, giving it a rather nice feel. Because the whole spa side is on a smaller scale, to me it felt like there's more a personal touch and not as snobby and pretentious as the other place (don't get me wrong, I really liked the other place before too). My best friend agreed with me and said she preferred the relaxing atmosphere here at Stoke by Nayland. Not having to fight for a sun lounger was also a bonus.

We opted for the Rasul Mud Therapy as the treatment for our destress package and it was a lovely experience. There were different muds of different degrees of exfoliation for the face, chest, arms, tummy, legs, back and hands/feet and we had fun applying the muds. We were then shown to the steam room which got progressively hotter for 20 minutes then the shower above our seats came on and we were able to wash the mud away. The only problem we found was as the steam room got hotter and we started to sweat more, the mud on our faces would start dripping down and we ended up 'eating' it when we talk. I suppose we could just stop talking but we are 2 busy mums wanting to make the most of being able to catch up without kiddies butting in every 10 seconds . After rinsing off the mud we were able to put a lovely body oil all over our body and let it sink in whilst we enjoyed our lunch.

We opted to pay extra to add an extra course to our meal. We both had grilled halloumi for starters and the meat platter for our main course, which was a very generous portion, with a full basket of warm bread on the side too. For pudding, my friend had the baked cheesecake which was very nice whilst I had the chocolate brownie. My brownie was a little too sweet for me but I still enjoyed it.

After lunch we went back to the spa/pool area to enjoy the facilities before relaxing on the sun loungers. It was such a lovely relaxing day. It is worth noting that on our visit the swimming pool was open to children from around 4pm. Didn't bother me but some may notice an increase in noise.

All in all we had an amazing day and hopefully it won't be too long before my husband treats me to another spa day here at Stoke by Nayland

Played both courses last weekend in blisteringly hot weather and enjoyed them both.
Both courses are well layed out and a good challenge. Greens were a bit slow and the grass on the tees was a bit long but overall I thought the courses were great.
The accommodation was excellent and the food was tasty.
The whole weekend was also good value for money, even the drink prices were reasonable.
If you want a round of golf or just a nice place to stay in a beautiful part of the country pay Stoke by Nayland a visit.

Over all I enjoyed my stay although even on a spar deal I feel it was over priced. Spa decor looking a bit tired with peeling paint and dirt around the jacuzzi area. Staff in restaurants over stretched especially at breakfast when I finally got a cup of coffee having already eaten my cooked breakfast.

We had a one night golf break last week, and we were very impressed with the Hotel and the Covid policies they had put in place. No shortage of hand sanitisers around the hotel. The staff were excellent, as was the food in the restaurant. It was our 3rd visit, and we will be back next year.

This hotel has a nice setting, but they charge quite a lot for a room overnight - this is not a problem as I don't mind paying for top quality service however this hotel lets down in so many ways.

However faults include:

Not being told check out was 11am when booking a spa treatment for 10.30am - meaning we had no where to go between the treatment and lunch which was booked for 12pm

The lunch which was booked for 12pm after 30 minutes of having to float around the hotel was not possible as the restaurant doesn't open until 12.30pm !!

Poorly maintained room - TV didn't work properly, shower was awful, no bedside cabinet

Refused entry to our friends 2 year old child who has downs syndrome into the pool as it was before 5pm - no mention of this when booking and our friends child uses swimming as a form of physio therapy - despite a request for a bit of flexibility as the pool was empty the request was denied.

When checking out the member of staff asked if I enjoyed my stay, I replied not really we had a number of issue... his response "no problem sir, we hope to see you again"...... no questions as to what my issues were, no attempt to rectify, nothing

To summarize this is a hotel with potential - the setting, spa, gym and restaurant are all very nice. But they are billing themselves as a top class hotel... but unfortunately have a premier Inn mentality.

Lovely stay and excellent staff. However, incorrect information given when booking by telephone affected our stay, as we were not informed of the necessity to pre book treatments and pre pay for restaurant reservations.

OK hotel in fantastic location. Everything looks tired. Hallways are old looking. Rooms OK. If you take kids, limited times they can go in pool. Hotel is expensive for what you get. Also, very expensive breakfasts if you have a family with kids as no discount for small ones. They get you as noting else around. They could probably up their game I feel.

Positives - Nice spa area, good size pool, lovely sauna, plenty of sun loungers, really nice full English breakfast, great table service and customer service. Range of spa services, massages etc. Negatives - rooms a bit dated, old worn leather chair and tables, pork belly meal on festive menu could be better quality, shower not easily controlled.

My partner and myself booked a Christmas package two day stay here. A week before leaving i injured my back, resulting in excruciating pain down my leg so much so i couldnt walk.It was a blow to have to cancel, we waited until as late as possible to see if i was able to travel . We were told by the hotel no refund whatsoever. We are both in our sixties and have lost hundreds of pounds due to a medical emergency. There was no token gesture even, just a no refund.Considering we didnt even make it there or use any facilities i think this is grossly unfair for such a large successful hotel.Extremely disappointing, i would not recommend.

We stayed at one of the lodges for 2 nights as a group of 10 for a hen party. The lodge itself was lovely. It was spacious with everything we needed for the weekend (apart from bin liners) as was the spa. Unfortunately, the organisation at the lodge and spa seemed to be pretty bad. None of the staff seemed to know the answers to any of the questions we asked and our spa appointments were moved without our knowledge. When we told them our appointments were wrong, we didn't get an apology and were just told it must have been a mistake. We also contacted them several times before our stay to ask if we would be able to go in a little earlier than check in to decorate before the Bride-to-be got there but we were told they didn't know if we could each time. All in all, it was lovely accommodation with a really nice (albeit busy) spa which I would definitely recommend, it's just a shame that the organisation was so bad.

We had a two night stay at the hotel. The staff are very friendly but aside the spa facilities there's not much to do. Going for a walk is not
possible as people are playing golf. The rooms need fridges. One annoying thing is the single beds joint together to make a double I found that quite cheeky considering it was a booked double from the beginning. It was a very nice break for us but not sure if we will go there again to be honest.

We got married in May last year and had our wedding reception at Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf & Spa. We fell in love of the venue itself as well as the area surrounding the hotel when we saw it for the first time. It definitely exceeded our expectation as the staff were fantastic and well organized, taking care of every single detail to make our special day running smoothly. The food was excellent with lots of choices to accommodate our request. We enjoyed our night stay in the Tamara suite accompanied by flowers, champagne and a lovely card from the staff. Everyone had a great time and people are still telling us how great our wedding was. We would definitely recommend this beautiful place to everyone for their special day. Enzo & Rosa
