I am only rating the hospital based on one experience, but based on their general newborn policies.
My daughter in law and niece gave birth on the same day. One at Integris in OKC, and one at Stillwater.
Integris: mandatory 2 hours after birth for ONLY parents and baby.
Stillwater: Everyone is cleaned up, the ENTIRE waiting room can go in now.
Integris: Mandatory break from visitors from 2-4pm
Stillwater: stay as long as you like EVAeN THOUGH the mother has not even had time to unwrap him, look him over, have quiet time
Integris: hospital bassinet provided for tired parents (in room)
Stillwater: no bassinet (this is likely due to the staff being inattentive)
Integris: qcalm, clean, peac ful,
Stillwater: not

Came in to ER in pain in my Chest and Nauseated waited 2 1/2 hours no pain relieve no nausea med till I was being released Dr. Vice nor the staff showed any compassion for this 66 year old heart patient. The absolute worst Hospital ER I have ever had the misfortune of having to experience. Never came in the room to check on me had to buzz them to ask for something to throw up in and when I asked for nausea medication THEY NEVER EVEN TOLD THE DOCTOR. ****The Doctor came into the room and told me to chose to stay with no pain meds in hospital bed or go home. I went home. Three days later I was taken my ambulance to Tulsa Heart certain for 3 days. They found heart damage and kept this 66 year old heart patient with stents, put me on pain and nausea and nitro which you never offered*****. Laid their in misery I will warn every member of my church about the way I was treated there:.......UPDATE: 4 days later I was taken by ambulance from Cushing Hospital! I had lab work and several xray procedures. Everyone was so nice and kind, explaining everything beforehand. SMC is a great place for all my healthcare needs, small and local. I would dislike having to travel to a bigger hospital, where you feel like you're just a number.

As always, the care and compassion shown by the staff at SMC is exemplary. I was treated with respect and concern, my questions answered fully and without "dumbing down". There was deoderant offered to replace that wiped off for the exam, I was offered a bottle of water, and my technician offered to walk me across the street to the hospital proper when an ultrasound was required! My ultrasound technician was kind and respectful, offered me warmed blankets(I love that!) and angled the screen so that I could watch; she explained the various densities shown. The radiologist, despite being younger than me, was kind and fatherly, explained everything, and kindly asked me to get a mammogram every year from now on. I felt so cared for, as if my two procedures were the only important ones to be done that day! Thank you so much for this caring, compassionate atmosphere, it really helps when one is afraid of potential results!

Highly Recommended! Great Emergency Department. The staff was very friendly, quick, and definitely worked as team players. All of the staff, nurses, techs and doctor looked and acted like they loved their jobs. They made me feel at ease and relaxed and treated me great. I came to the hospital down and left extremely happy.

Got there and went immediately to registration - no waiting. Then went to the waiting area for bloodwork. It was the longest wait I've had there. I go about every 3 to 6 months and have never had to wait this long. Not sure if they were short handed or what, but it was a long wait. Bloodwork went fine. Long walk back to my car but with construction, it's normal.

*******On another note -- the gift shop. I have on what seems like hundreds of occasions shopped in the gift shop. When I need something different,. that was the go-to place. I shopped for any occasion and was always happy. I would even drive out there on my lunch hours just to look, and always found something. At one time, that is where a majority of my jewelry came from. Lately when I go in there, either I, or someone else has to back out of the way. It's so tiny and crowded . I'm hoping when the construction is done around the door area, the gift shop will be expanded. It used to be such a wonderful place to shop. Now it's just so crowded, no one can browse. There is nothing, NOTHING, left in Stillwater for unique gifts your gift shop has always been popular for. Please make it larger so we can browse with ease and not worry about knocking something off the shelf if we do go in.

My son was seen at SMC ED on October 7, critically ill after being in jail for 5 days and repeatedly and deliberately denied access to health care for severe pain in his upper back with shortness of breath by Payne County Jail personnel
The physicians and nurses at SMC ED treated my son with dignity, respect and compassion and skill. We were informed he needed specialized surgery outside of SMC capabilities and was ultimately transferred to St. John's in Tulsa. Emergency surgery was performed to remove a FOOTBALL sized abscess in his mid back, down his spinal cord and extending into his chest/heart area. He will be in the hospital a minimum of 6 weeks and long term care after that. Thanks to ALL the ED staff that cared for Steven that night. You literally saved his life! Thank you even more for seeing the person and not the "labels"! We are all appreciative of the excellent care provided right here in our home town! Respectfully,
Patti Wisler (Mother)

My family had the misfortune of using the ER after my four year old daughter broke her arm last month. It was a stressful situation, but every single staff member we encountered in the SMC ER alleviated a little piece of worry.

I was so impressed with the way the staff talked to my daughter and explained everything that was happening to her. Dr Damon and our nurse, Shelley, were phenomenal!

The emergency room is not the best place to end up in, but I feel so blessed to have this one! Thank you all!

If I could give them zero stars I would. They take advantage of white students from OSU! These kids have procedures done that are not needed just for the fees and because they are not on a free program. My child was given a full body CAT scan with no regard to the danger of ionising radiatian or the cost ($4000). Then the doctor came in and told him that they couldn't use it to tell anything. That's half of his tuition for a semester!!!! We just paid for 10 others to receive a scan free of charge! Welcome to socialized medicine and Stillwater Medical Center fully supports this. Go to the hospital in Edmond! Wish we had....

The hospital (even during construction period) was very clean and tidy. The staff was very helpful during my pre-registation for labor and delivery. During our son's birth, they explained everything to me and answered all questions i had asked. They were very fast to respond to anything i needed help with post partum.

Dr. Fernando- 10/10 would recommend!!!

Great guy, very knowledgeable, down to earth person who makes every visit and checkup easy and simple.
Would definitely be okay giving birth here again.

I recently had to have a follow-up mammogram. Rather than having to wait for a day or two to get the results, to my surprise they immediately shared the "pictures" with the radiologist, who read them and responded within five minutes. Wow! Great work, SMC!

Some of the best care around Oklahoma. I have had colonoscopies, surgery, and procedures. Once out of sight of the doctors, the staff just keep on going. They are engaged and show they care. When having medical services, a person needs a calm competent atmosphere in which to relax and hand off the responsibility of one's health for a time. They do catheterizations through the wrist, innovative. I had one through the groin; it's not bad but healing at the wrist would be better. SMC staff listen to your questions. The more risky the procedure the more question I have. They have professional patience and if they don't know they will get a question answered. I give consent to these folks in writing; I read everything and turn over my care. The feedback I get tell me it's worth it. Good place for care; I would go there for procedures recommended to them.

My appointment was great. Saw both the PA and doctor. They made great decisions, however, trying to get the appointment was like pulling teeth. I was given voicemail and no one ever called back. Called again and told the gal I wanted to talk to a real person. I was worried about a blood clot. To me that is serious! They did ultrasound my hematoma to make sure there was no aneurism or blood clot around it. Again, the tech that did the ultrasound told me I was fine. She saw nothing. I don't think she is allowed to do that as a tech. Now the results weren't given to me for another week, so as much as she shouldn't have given her opinion, I did feel good about it.

I went to the lab on 12th street thinking my doctor had an order for a UA test already there. I dropped off my sample and didn't go back to talk to the tech. The front lady I didn't need to go back. Turns out the test on file was not for a UA test. If I had been taken back and was able to go over what I was there for I would have gotten the correct test. My doctor called later but it was too late and didn't have my sample.

Inpatient stay on the 5th floor. Excellent care and a wonderful staff. Treatment was above and beyond satisfactory. They made what is naturally a difficult time easy to get through. Can't say enough good things about the nurse manager on this floor. :)
