Drottningholms court theater is a baroque theater from the 18th century with an original machinery still in function today. The auditorium has been incredibly well preserved for 253 years. You can follow guided tours daily in 4 different languages or book special tours to visit backstage or to learn more about 18th century life style.
Very gorgeous, chilled, inspiring and amazing place, nothing bad to say about it
An excellent must see, if you do nothing else, do this place!!!
Thank you for a nice em in Gustav llls track through the theater accompanied by singing M Bellman and court lady dressed in court costumes.
The place would deserve 5 * if the staff were a little kinder. The guided tours are only with them who keep repeating not to touch anything because it is all original from the 1700s. You feel treated like a 5 year old who does not understand things immediately. The most interesting part of the visit, the theater, is made quickly and if there are rehearsals, concerts don't even make you sit down. Even the scenes of the theater are inaccessible to the public despite being shown everywhere.
A must for those who love Opera in a fantastic historical setting. Magically!
Went on "History of love and passion" Great to sneak around, backstage with a top-notch and entertaining guide.
Super nice, visit is worth it, if not in the Stockholm Pass, but rather expensive.
We were at the Easter holidays child-friendly guided tour. Very interesting and fun trip for all ages.
Very interesting that they such a well-preserved and old theater
Great experience. High professionalism. Time-Typical Instruments. World-class. Outstanding original play at a 17th-century theater.
I toured this theater in the summer of 2014, so my info is dated. However, this was a GREAT tour! From sleeping upright to social hierarchy and flirting amongst the audience at performances to creating thunder to the use of short actors to portray distance on the stage to the tale of a dead Swedish king swearing in Swedish during performances because he can no longer see the show to the tale of a famed French theater director imported in the 18th century to enliven Swedish theater and then held against his will because the king didn't want the director to leave. And who does this director look like? Quentin Tarantino. As far as I can lookup on the internet, the theater director was Jacques Marie Boutet de Monvel and the Swedish king was Gustav III. A VERY interesting tour and a looming movie for Quentin Tarantino to write, direct and star in.
Well guided while visiting the Drottningholm Theater and the guard on site
Nice park, both English and French. Good bus connections and you can hear the story wing as you walk through the park.
Inevitable. Superb and unique in Europe. Super and really complete guide. Great choice of language for the visit. Beautiful place to visit absolutely.
Charming theatre, much more austere than the palace next door. The theatre hall itself is harming as is the mechanics of the stage effects. Unfortunately, you don't get a demonstration if there is a rehearsal on.
Interesting old theater. Still has all the old stage machinery.
Good environment
Keep in mind that you need a ticket to get inside
There is change of guards here
The location is fantastic. Lovely 18th century environment, well worth a visit just the one.
Such a beautiful theatre, took the guided tour here and got to hear the interesting history of the theatre
You can freely pick up the goods at the counter, there is no toilet to go to the restaurant next to it. The garden is great for an hour or two, and the museum can also watch an hour, which can be used as a half-day trip. It is free to enter with Starka. No need to take a boat
From a functional point of view, not the best theater in the world (long benches, limited possibilities in terms of scenography and light), cramped foyer areas with toilet deficiency), but this is offset by More
A great travel back in time in a very well preserved piece of history. The guided tour is absolutely marvelous, in a perfect English, and the nearby royal park is simply great! What would make this a truly great experience: a visit in the back-stage area to see first hand the very complicated machinery involved in stage performance.
An interesting piece of Swedish history. Must see place if you are visiting the Drottingholm Castle. The tour guide is outstanding.
We were listening to the opera siblings mantua at Drottningholms slotteater. Great sound acoustics and good songare
Surprisingly WAY MORE than I expected. It was really cool. Glad I took this tour before the castle which was overwhelmingly ornate. GO SEE THIS!
Fantastic and engaging actors and staff. Professional and varied program. Thanks for a great day for both children and adults!
Small but interesting. A guide in period outfit shows you around the theater. Visitors are divided into age groups :-) - adults and children - a very nice idea.
The Drottningholm theater is contemporary with the Versailles theater, they are in an exceptional state of conservation. They are the two oldest theaters in the world. During the guided tour in French, you will be told that French troops, "troubadours" were invited to play in Stockholm in the 18th century.
Nowadays, in June, a Baroque theater festival is held in Drottingsholm. Come with your children, they can make it rain and shine behind the scenes. We recommend that you come by boat - bus from Stockholm.
Absolutely amazing tour. You definitely need to do the one in your language because the detail is fascinating. Best bit of the whole place.
A very nice excursion to the castle and its surroundings, which reflects the historical background. The royal 18th century theater was honored with a very nice guide, which reflected its entire history in an exemplary way!
Only accessible by guided tours (in French, English, German and Swedish). The theater is atypical and the tour very complete. The French guide is very nice.
An amazingly beautiful and and uniquely authentic 18th century theater that still lives and works today!
Chose to go on a family tour. Very nice and good focus on the bar by the guide.
So surprised it got 4.4 rating! Must come from those who went to see a concert/opera there... The theatre tour is definitely NOT worth it. Short, dry, no access to the backstage. Just watch the video shown at the gift shop. That is FREE and BETTER than the tour.
Fantastic baroque theater. Even the benches are the original, but they have been padded. But it is not a place for people with bad backs.
It is worth taking a tour of the theater to learn more interesting details.
A favorite building with its cool beauty. However, bad luck with the guide, who was in a hurry and not very informative. Although I can't speak French, I understood when we passed the French group that they got better guidance than we did.
Absolutely disappointing. Better to take a ride in the park.
Very beautiful theater with history and in beautiful surroundings. The theater itself is not responsible for the quality of the sets. So if there is a complaint at a specific theater or dance then it will be taken with the organizer. The theater has a text strip that can be used for operas, much appreciated. The slope makes sure there is a good view even in cheap places. It was when I visited the opportunity for guided viewing. Wooden benches (which to me were not inconvenient). No efficient cooling system, which felt during the hot summer of 2018.
The theatre is kept in its original shape with one of the oldest mechanisms still active to this day (around 250 years old)
So old! The tour is lovely and not to be missed! This is added to UNESCO's world heritage list. Recommended to visit during the weekend. If you're lucky - if the number of visitors during the tour is small - you may get access to the backstage!
A nice castle building in Drottningholm castle park.
A very nice place, and he have at least three or four hours to be able to roam in the environs
Good place to wander around. From inside not that great palace..
Scenic location to visit during summer. In winter it looks so different and not as nice. Great toilet facilities and good cafe.
An interesting building but very disappointed not to be allowed backstage on the tour. The unique selling point of this theatre is the machinery and you don't even get to see it.
A beautiful little Theatre which is only accessed by guided tour lasting around 30 mins. In the Theatre itself our guide gave us an interesting talk about the operation of the place and who sat in the different boxes around the Theatre. King Gustav 3rd enjoyed participating and acting himself.
Calm and nice.
Good parking facilities.
An amazingly fine restored old historical theater, which can still be used! Mkt sights
Where and when the Sisters in Mantua - based on a true big
The siblings of Mantua are a new opera of old music based on the true story of composer Salamone Rossi and his sister Europe who lived in the Italian city of Mantua around the turn of the century in 1600. Rossi composed subconscious music and was a composer at the court where the sister was also acclaimed singer. They were both appreciated artists but also vulnerable to their Jewish birth. The siblings of Mantua are a contemporary opera with their roots in the 17th century Europe, a politically charged time not so different to our own.
Theater tour is a bit week... wish we could have seen back stage... what this theater is really known for!
Fantastic theater as it is also a museum in itself. Keep in mind that special rules apply to bags, drinking water in the premises, etc.
Always exciting experience with new sets each season.
