The siblings of Mantua are a new opera of old music based on the true story of composer Salamone Rossi and his sister Europe who lived in the Italian city of Mantua around the turn of the century in 1600. Rossi composed subconscious music and was a composer at the court where the sister was also acclaimed singer. They were both appreciated artists but also vulnerable to their Jewish birth. The siblings of Mantua are a contemporary opera with their roots in the 17th century Europe, a politically charged time not so different to our own.
