The building is on a small hill. You can climb the stairs, and on the sides the grass is usually full of students and people lying and chatting. The building is very beautiful, and free entry. Of course, an extreme silence is requested. They have a large games room with free access books, computers and video consoles, as well as Wi-Fi. It is worth stopping and entering because it is a superb building and the environment is second to none.

A must-visit if you are in the Melbourne CBD area. There are free exhibits in the galleries that can be very interesting and informative. You can start your visit by checking out what's on at the computer terminals located at the information section. There's currently a beautiful exhibition on the history of the book, perfect for a bibliophile like me. Make sure you take a good look at the famous dome and take a seat underneath it.

There is a lot of reading space in a very atmospheric building that is no longer a library. It is recommended to go to Melbourne because you can visit for free. We can look down on Duomo part from the top by elevator.

This is one of the most beautiful libraries I have ever visited. The architecture is simply magnificent. The reading areas are well lit, airy and have sufficient space & seating for readers. Librarians and other staff are helpful. I have been able to find most books I was looking for.

Beauty to cry museum

Beauty to cry museum

Once you enter the right hand elevator, you can go directly to the top
Don't go to the last elevator
The last one can only reach the 4th floor

It's fun to play next to a library door
Crepes are good to eat outside
Push nutella plus banana

I love taking people to see the State Library with its exhibitions, the reading rooms and the architecture. Our overseas visitors are overwhelmed with the Dome room and the other reading rooms. So good to see people studying and using the library.

A very beautiful library. Sit in the famous radial chairs and enjoy reading. There were half and half of the tourists and locals inside. In particular, there were many local students studying and reading.
There are free exhibits as well as books and reading spaces. (The history of the book was on display when I went)
I went there on Sunday afternoon, and many people gathered in front of the building plaza to sunbathe or play chess.
It seems to be open until late, and I think people living in Melbourne are happy to have such a wonderful place.

Came to here to look at the free exhibitions and the La Trobe Reading Room. The exhibitions are brilliant, reciting the history of Victoria and featuring the death mask of Ned Kelley as well as his suit of armour. The La Trobe Reading Room is a great example of grand Melburnian architecture. There are two art galleries featuring collections of landscapes from Melbourne and the surrounding area which give a great insight into how the city developed.

Great place to study, lots of desk room and robust facilities - free wifi, reception, lockers. It was my go to study area when studying for my degree as it was quiet and close to Melbourne Central station.

It is more Melbourne central than anything. It is where demos are hosted, speeches are performed and where people just meet and sit on the grass. It has a great architectural feel to it. And that is just the outside. Inside it has loads of space to study, books to read and ponder on, and of course heritage architecture.

The renovations have helped a lot, it's given more reading rooms and space to work and the collection of books is great to read, you could stay here and browse for weeks becasuse there is so many to choose from.

Beautiful building with great facilities inside. It has great free exhibition as part of the community program. The special books exhibition was simply amazing. At times it can get crowded and noisy but most of the times it is quite good and conducive to learning and studying. Well worth a visit if in Melbourne

Amazing building.
Great place to visit for reading, relaxing or photographing.
I'm sure there is more to do there.

One of my favourite places in Melbourne, especially because it's very rare to find anything in Melbourne that's free. Only bad thing is it's often packed full of students so it can be hard to find a desk. While they're upgrading it at the moment, it would be good to put in more study tables with power points in all the large open spaces, like the room with the artworks on the walls.
