State Department store Review

The State Department Store is not a cheap shopping option. But it does offer condensed centralised shopping - from it's (usually) well-stocked supermarket to the tech floor where you can purchase local SIM cards, a currency exchange (check the rates) and it's souvenir floor.

As mentioned, there are numerous brands / cashmere outlets all on display in the one shop which provide a good general choice. There are seasonal sales as well.

Yes, there are cheaper options available throughout the city but if you're time poor, then this makes a good location to visit. Be careful of the pick-pockets though - especially in peak season. They are very very good!

Overrated place too expensive. Same thing i saw in black market it was 2 times cheaper

It is easy to exchange money and it is good to shop in the 1st floor mart

It is a large building in the heart of Ulaan Baatar on Peace Avenue, where there are several trendy shops, a supermarket and even a Cinema. The only negative note is the slightly expensive prices probably due to the Nomin chain which boasts a really nice and well-stocked supermarket

There are all but a lot of money for memories of Mongolia, including antiques and jewels

A good place for tourists to start their shopping. It has almost everything you need to get started. Top floor is where you will find the cellular service providers for your local sim card. Bottom floor has the grocery store. In between is mostly clothes etc. Good place overall!

There are many things, but many are crude. It is very crowded with many people. You can buy groceries at a nearby mart, so don't buy it here. Wonderful and cool items are that expensive. Let's think well.

Basically you can find anything you want here. Supermarket with food imported from around the world. Sadly, finding Mongolian products in supermarket is a bit of a challenge.buy the Mongolian milk vodka here if you intend to get is as souvenir. Not available at airport duty free (14 oct 2018).
Souvenirs are on 5th or 6th, top floor. Good variety of choices. Expect service and attitude from communist era. Authentic travel experience.

Big shopping center with something for everybody. The best that I have encountered in UB so far.

This is the place where you can get most things you need. It's much like a shopping mall in America, although you can expect to pay much more here than you would nearly anywhere else. The positive is you can find most anything you need here, and pretty good quality.

You can buy almost anything you want from here. Souvenirs can be bit overpriced, but can be fancy. Clothing brands, grocery, coffee shop, bakery, beauty products and so many other items inside. Little bit crowded sometimes.

A good place to exchange local currency. But definitely try soft cream shop outside. Personally recommended the one at the right hand side of State Department Store (1000MNT/per).

Best souvenir shop in Ulaanbaatar. Plenty of choice

It is one of the main landmarks in downtown UB where people meet, especially for tourists because it is easy to recognize and its right on peace Ave, just north of the circus. The supermarket on the first floor has variety of products. The 6th floor has a large souvenir and book store, where youll find that souvenir for your little brother back home. However, the customer service is the worst of your trying to return things. There is also variety of cashmere products on one of the floors. There is a movie theater and electronics store for your convenience.

As its one of the biggest stores, malls of Mongolia, their staffs are not qualified. Also this store has only 1 restroom which had been there for 20+ years i guess. The smell that i dont want to talk here, but they need to build at least another restroom for god sake. Otherwise, you can almost find anything you want.

There is a large supermarket on the first floor, and all kinds of souvenirs are sold on the sixth floor, but the staff is lazy, and the payment by the customer is extremely time consuming.

A supermarket with groceries and daily necessities for Ulaanbaatar citizens. There are also many food miscellaneous goods from Russia and Korea.

This is the largest and most complete shopping mall in Ulaanbaatar.

Id say its the best department store in this area. The customer service is topnotch and very experienced. Rich in choices like foods clothes souvenirs whatever you ask. It has that friendly environment where you dont feel uncomfortable at all.

Things are usually a good 30% higher than other places. But, it's more expat-friendly. The supermarket on the first floor has western organic and vegan items. Get the Bonus card to get additional discounts and points. Make sure that you have purchased items before and have a receipt. Also, it costs a few thousand tugriks (I can't remember, but it was very little) when applying.
