This is a review about Stanford Health Care in gen...

This is a review about Stanford Health Care in general. Basically, stay the hell away as it has extremely shady billing practices. I made an appointment over the phone, citing my annual free preventive check-up as the reason for my visit. I did the same thing at the office the day of my appointment and to the doctor. I was shocked to receive a bill about two weeks later for over $500. Because I was a first time patient, I was hit with a $441 'new patient' fee that my insurance barely covered. Stanford Health had ample opportunities to tell me I would be charged this fee: I could have been told when making the appointment on the phone or when I showed up to the appointment. Or they could put it on its website. But they kept it a secret and because I have never previously been charged such a fee (I'm 38 - this wasn't my first time visiting a doctor), I never thought to ask. On top of this fee, I was charged $200 for the five minutes it took to remove wax from one ear. Mind you, I was charged for both ears despite the fact the doctor said only one needed to be cleaned because the other was "only 25% blocked". I chalk this up to me not asking if it was covered but the 'new patient' fee is ridiculous. I appealed the 'new patient' fee to Stanford Health billing department but the woman there was incredibly rude and basically stated the charge will not change. Worse, this person stated that if I came in next year and got the same services, I wouldn't be charged meaning it's all semantics and has absolutely nothing to do with the services rendered. I appealed to my insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield) to fight the fee but they also couldn't care less about patients. My last hope is the California Department of Managed Healthcare. Worse part...I told my wife to go here before the bill came so now we owe nearly $900 for two basic preventative visits.

The care from the Stanford doctors is fine but it's not special in any way. Proceed with caution if you decide to go here and make sure you ask what you will be charged. I don't recommend this place at all.

I have the most respect and admiration for this company. I signed up and was hired for a volunteer position. I've heard so many bad comments about them, and I have to say they have 'class'. May forever they live! Hip Hip Hurray!

I went to Stanford for an annual health exam and discussing some personal concerns. The service was high but I cannot say the same for the billing. My visit was charged as an Office visit which didn't meet my insurance's criteria to offer assistance. When I called their support and asked for guidance they said that they're charging all of the new patients an Office Visit even if it is preventative! On top they suggested that there is no way to file 2 separate claims for the preventative part of the service and that I should have known to have booked a separate appointment.
I thought that I would go again but I'm not sure anymore. The cost of the service was pretty high and after being treated so poorly I would expect even worse billing cases in the future.

Consistently the best our Area has, until you drive all the way there and then get I d k from your supposed expert on uti (that was expensively bilking )
Consistently the best on phone.
Consistently the promised best.
Let's hope that the British expert pediatric psychiatrist for care of by proxy of Munchausen syndrome is found. He disappeared patient abandonment, and the administration say they cannot locate his past records employed there!
The UTI dr referring recurrent drug resistant mysteries over to the psychiatry division, ?!lol, ( because the fiscal mysteries are not hypochondriac indeed they are causal affected neurological disorder which is sending signal to the body to create illnesses- at rapid pace- in synchopation with the Alarmist, panic blood pressure spikes, .This keeps in play wide circles of medical Personell- All hopping- satisfying the craving urges for $ick attention .
Hmph, so yeah, having to be the dr when we bring her to the drs kinda sucks-- but I rate Stanford as my brightest in our area HOPE

If they locate a not evasive committed to be expert MSBP resident who won't disappear and do Patient abandonment

Clearly the weak link in the entire labyrinth, the syndrome illnesses- evade typically true diagnoses, and erstwhile are real examples of self- induced anomalies.

Could the reason why God has Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy ( attempted homicides, homicidal serial killers with self- harming life long) be.... For the medical folk to communicate clearly with the neurological disorder folks and be ready to try lobotomy or electrotherapy on these maladroits plus as Germany instructs, tie their tubes.
The narcissist megalomaniac must not be able to murder children and families inside hidden homes, vehicles. It's an essay.
I'm studying it. This scourge MSBP goes tiptoed around by medical places they encounter it alot and abet the homicides by handing the Munch's more drugs and tools to feed the urges which equip the msbp to make murder on family, visiting friends kids, the stray kids, the crying scraped knee kid at the park who gets " treated" by the saccharine cooing mom or dad who has the first aid kit, only what was that practice technique of torture on his knee? The parents can never erase the trauma nor the scarring. What was in that aerosol? Hmm.
It just spreads- msbp was supposed to be eradicated when Germany discovered it.
Hitler's mother was MSBP.
It's an anti .

Stanford has evasive disappearing staff with perplexing dearth of accountability when a disease if you will, is dire.
Thus far, Stanford rests
And I mean goes on vacation xx
On it's laurels.

We need diligence. Not evasive tactics for tough but treatable complex conditions.

No doctor anywhere from San Jose, CA to Merced, CA could diagnose
and treat my raspy voice. Lost out on several job interviews with top
technology employers because of my terrible voice.

Endured years of lost wages, lost confidence and depression because
everyone struggled to understand me over the telephone and in person.

Stanford Medical Center in Stanford, CA transformed my life.
Vocal cord surgery was on March 15 and for several weeks afterwards
my voice went from bad to very bad. Feared the operation damaged my vocal cords and I would have scars.

Then about 2 months after operation one morning my excess mucus
and raspy voice disappeared. My voice was near
radio quality. Different voice but way better than ever before.
Reminds me of the homeless 'Man with the Golden Voice'.

Absolutely deplorable conditions for the patients making them wear their same clothes for 4 days at a time and then coming up with the excuse that housekeeping doesn't work that day or not providing their clothes for laundry then making patients wear somebody else's unknown clothing deplorable conditions at this facility do not recommend it to anybody

Amazing. . .simply amazing work. In October my husband was diagnosed with Stage IV Giant Cell Glioblastoma. We were seen by a neurosurgeon (Dr. Steven Chang) the very next day, placed on steroids for a week to shrink the tumor/inflammation. One week later they removed as much of the tumor as they could (it was wrapped around several structures in his brain so they couldn't get it all). After removing 25% of his brain he still had all of his faculties and was (with the exception of the loss of ability to read and write) his own self. Our on-going joke was that they took his brain but left his mind intact. Because Glioblastoma is a terminal disease my husband, ultimately, chose to go on hospice. For the next 5 months we (he) did great; again no loss of cognitive ability/facility except the expected expressive aphasia and some minor memory issues. Up until 5 days before he died on March 19th we had the most wonderful times together and were able to reaffirm our love and build memories to tide me through the rest of my life without him :*( YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!! Thank you!

Staff was very friendly, but the rooms were very uncomfortable. There was a single chair with no kind of accomodations for staying with my dad over night. Any guests that came to visit were constantly shifting in and out of the room due to size. No seating area for guests anywhere near our room and any area we chose to relax in was cramped and uncomfortable.

Don't let them fool you: they are a research hospital and patients come third. First: the MD's--who are "inventing the future," an actual quote, and thus too busy to see a patient in less than 8 weeks who is facing open heart surgery or death (my situation). Second: the "nurse ratchets" and other apparatchiks with whom mere mortals actually communicate. And third: you... or your mother with Alzheimer's... or your daughter with a fever and diarrhea--that might be potentially fatal C-Diff.

If you beg and scrape, they will lecture about how they are doing you a favor, how wonderful and important they are, and how they personally will go beyond the regular procedures procedures to try to help, but they "want you to remember it."

From my experience, once my mom entered the ICU you the first option they gave her is that it s best for her to die without any intervention to save her life. They have at least 3 family meeting rooms to discuss comfort care with family members. They don t spend their energy trying to fight for a person s life which is what they are supposed and obligated to do. Instead they spend their energy on convincing family members to have no hope and give up on their loved ones. The first thing the doctors say to a patient in the ICU is how soon they are going to pass away, to leave them mentally destroyed and with no hope.
Don t take your loved ones there. Because the only options you have for an ICU patient Is to take them out of life support or transfer them. They don t try much !!

They asked me $1100 for the video appointment. Then refused to help me once I told them that I have medical limited insurance. This place is as fake as NASA. Stay away from this place. It's full of young students who will test new medication on you. Overall they are interested in making money and hook you up with medications.

Unsincerely,

Such a disappointment. Not living up to their name. Incompetent doctors and nurses. Horrible communication. No results, just more prescriptions and no interest on my doctor to try to find a solution.

Dr. Kimberly Stone - Stanford Breast Surgeon

Dr. Stone preformed a bilateral mastectomy in Nov. 2018. She has been nothing but exceptional in all aspects of the pre and post surgery consultations. Very patient and understanding of the difficulties that go along with this type of surgery.

Well they have more than once saved my dads life. Hes been through some crazy extensive surgerical procedures taking up to 14 hours. His staff was always soft and friendly and kept up update about every hour. And helped us get into a private room which we were more than thankful to have for my mom. Amazingly talented people who run this hospital

I was diagnosed with 3 types of cancer, 2 different breast cancers and thyroid cancer which created cancerous tumors in my lungs. I moved her to go to Stanford as my daughter lives an hour away. I was from the east coast. I truly cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Colevas and his team After 15 months my thyroid was removed, hormones balanced and two lumpectomies removed those cancers with clear margins. The cancerous tumors in my lungs are terminal. I am treated with oral chemo which shrunk the tumors but was told it will lose it's effectiveness and I will be switched to a different 'trial' med. These trials come with heavy side effects that are often quite nasty and dangerous. Care and follow is excellent. I have so many other doctors there, but do nor have all their names handy. Stanford gets an A+ from me. By the way...I never smoked and was an organic chef all my career. Where do these cancers come from?

I have been a patient at Stanford for over a decade. I am lucky enough to to live in this region to have amazing & one of the best hospitals and Dr's. My twins were born at the children's hospital 3 months early, I have had multiple surgeries. I'm very grateful for this amazing hospital.

The ekg techs do not regularly clean the 12 lead wires from the ekg machine after every patient use. I know because I was trained that way when I worked there. Huge OSHA violation and Health Hazard.

These are highway robbers. Try getting treated anywhere else in the area. My girlfriend's visit ended up with two different kinds of overcharging.

The more egregious overcharging is that they performed a surgery that she did not need. The staff presented some information and said she had 10 minutes to make a decision, and the nurses essentially pressured her into accepting the doctor's recommendation. After the fact, she took some time to read, learned that the operation was completely unnecessary, and has regretted it ever since.

The less egregious overcharging is that she had an appointment with a specific doctor and, when she showed up, the doctor was "unavailable". Instead, someone else saw her, told her she had nothing to worry about, and made her another appointment with the doctor she was supposed to see. This was charged as a "hospital visit", for over $13k. Insurance cuts that down by a lot, but this is still pure bait and switch.

There's been a report on this hospital by Vox and this hospital only cares about the money... They even sent a letter to a mother saying "We are sorry you weren't satisfied with your experience" DUDE HER CHILD DIED... Her child died due to a perventable disease while other hospitals take it more seriously and actually have a totally safe solution.

Although the quality of care I received on my short ER visit seems to have been decent, the billing system is exceptionally poor and completely lacks transparency. I am insured with pretty decent employer-based coverage, yet Stanford Healthcare has hit me with multiple bills totaling hundreds of dollars, on multiple months since my visit. The charges listed appear to be for the exact same services, yet they keep rolling in. Had I lacked insurance, apparently the very simple X-ray and consultation I received would have cost upwards of $3,000.

I do not recommend Stanford Healthcare. Although their problems are surely indicative of a broken American healthcare system, I have to believe that other health systems are doing this better, and if I have further health issues I intend to explore those options more thoroughly.

Absolutely awful. I gave them 2 stars because there are a handful of nurses who are amazing but I had to spend a week there after a major surgery. Hopefully surgery will heal okay. Regarding ortho drs, awful they rather teach then take care of patients. Maybe saw and heard from them once or twice. Trauma wanted to take a chest tube out bc they weren t sure if it should or should they just wanted to try. A dr should make decisions with confidence. I made them one wait one more day. Most Olof nurses forgot to bring me medicine I had to call and remind them. And the communication between Drs was the worse. Trauma came in one morning And said they we re waiting to discharge me because they wanted to see my final CT scans and XRays. I had to tell them that both were done the night before. They had no idea. Don t go here!

I have never been to any of the Stanford Medical Centers. My initial impression from speaking with the receptionist about making an appointment is highly negative. I called the Back and Spine department and had some questions.

She couldn't have care any less.

In early September 2014. I was flown in from the island of Kauai. In critical condition. With heart and renal failure. The Staff at this wonderful Hospital came to my rescue . Quickly working to qualify me to become a candidate to receive a heart and kidney transplant. While there. The physicians, surgeons, nurses, therapist and the entire staff. We're the greatest. The kindness shown to their patients. Is truly heart felt. On September 27, 2014 I was blessed to receive the gift of life. I am now recovered, retired and healthy. Thanks to our lord Jesus Christ, Stanford University Medical Center. And the loving, caring, gift from a very special Family.

Best wishes

Stanford Hospital lost my friend's wallet and van ...

Stanford Hospital lost my friend's wallet and van keys during his stay, during a scrambled room change, in which it was carelessly dropped on the floor. The wallet was allegedly placed in a safe, with a tracking number, but could not be located when my friend was discharged. The wallet contained everything, including his birth certificate, SS card, bank card, ID, etc. It also contained his address book with all his contacts. As a homeless individual, the loss of his van keys is the equivalent to the keys to his home. Also on this key ring were 3 small antique keys, which are the only things that my friend owned that had formerly belonged to his mother, and which can never be replaced. Stanford offered no help in finding these items, no compensation, no apology, and no concern. I cannot help but believe that if this had happened to myself or my husband, it would have been handled differently. But since it happened to someone who was homeless, no attempt was made to right this mistake. It has taken months of work and support to replace the wallet contents, but the antique keys and address book can never be recovered, which has caused my friend significant heartbreak. I was shocked and appalled at the lack of concern for this devastating incident.
