Although the quality of care I received on my short ER visit seems to have been decent, the billing system is exceptionally poor and completely lacks transparency. I am insured with pretty decent employer-based coverage, yet Stanford Healthcare has hit me with multiple bills totaling hundreds of dollars, on multiple months since my visit. The charges listed appear to be for the exact same services, yet they keep rolling in. Had I lacked insurance, apparently the very simple X-ray and consultation I received would have cost upwards of $3,000.

I do not recommend Stanford Healthcare. Although their problems are surely indicative of a broken American healthcare system, I have to believe that other health systems are doing this better, and if I have further health issues I intend to explore those options more thoroughly.
