Stahl Exotic Animal Veterinary Review

We first found Stahl when we adopted our bunny. Though it was a long drive from West Virginia, the experience at Stahl was well work the trip. We moved to D.C. and there was no question of looking for anyplace else, we already had a vet. The technicians and vets at Stahl are some of the nicest around and cared for our rabbit, Star, as if she were as precious to them as she was to us. They helped us transition to a wheel chair for her and consoled us when she passed. Whenever we get another small furry friend, Stahl is the only place we will take them to.

This is the absolute best place for bunnies. I would not trust any other veterinarian with my bunnies. They are kind and caring. They take time to listen to clients and are very easy with my bunnies. The entire staff is knowledgeable. I drive 90+ miles to take my bunnies here as I do not trust ANYONE else. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I started taking my bird to SEAVS when she was feather plucking and our previous vet couldn't figure out the cause. I was extremely anxious about my bird's health and didn't know what to do. In my very first appointment with Dr. Nielsen, she suggested a possible cause our previous vet had never mentioned that turned out to be the answer! She also did so much to put me at ease with her friendliness, professionalism, and knowledge. My bird has had so much feather growth since then. I will definitely be taking my bird to SEAVS for all her future appointments.

They gave my Eclectus a thorough exam and explained the whole process. Also the laser treatments on her leg are showing promising results.

Blessed to have a specialty animal clinic in the Fairfax area. We took my daughters hamster and the doctor treated him for mites and took her time to discuss well care with us.

Our Guinea pigs had to say goodbye to Dr. Romo, who has taken care of them for a few years. As we will be moving away this year, they'll miss him. He's the best always so attentive and caring. We appreciate what you guys do at this clinic.we hope to find a place like this in Miami. Thank you!!

Really knowledgeable staff, professional and beautiful office. They took great care of my budgie and stuck around to talk to me about any questions I had. Really pleased about coming here and spending 85$ for a vet visit is worth it. They take the time to really evaluate your animal. Highly recommend.

Very nice people, experienced and willing to help, huge place, food, toys, supplies, boarding, in addition to the aviary, really everything you need for your parrot and more.

I bring my canary winged parakeets and Australian budgerigars here for checkups. The staff is extremely helpful and the avian vet was very knowledgable about general bird care and tips. The avian vet also gave a well rounded treatment plan and diet/supplement recommendation for my budgie when he had bobbing tail/respiratory difficulty, without pushing expensive or unnecessary testing (which is something I experienced at a different exotic animal clinic). Overall I really trust them, and I m looking forward to going to them for some birdy nail trimming as I just found out they offer some grooming services as well. Thank you Stahl Exotics!

What great doctors they have there. We travel 60 miles one way because we believe there is no better doctor or service for or family members.

They provided lovely end of life care for my elderly guinea pig and were extremely compassionate.

This was my first time coming her for my bunnies. They really seem to know what they're talking about when it comes to rabbits unlike most animal hospitals I will be back again if my rabbits have any problems

This place is the best. They are caring and very professional and render great care. They cared for our three rabbits through the years who have now all passed from old age. Dr Nielsen was with us when we had to help our rabbit pass on to the rainbow bridge and her compassion and understanding were incredible. She spent so much time with us and our beloved Duncie. Never rushed us. She was amazing. And Dr Costanza saw us through many tough times. We love these vets and if we ever get another rescue rabbit we would bring them here. They also sent us a beautiful memento after Duncie passed. First class all the way. Can t go wrong. Thanks SEAVs for such great care!

Amazing!! I just got back from them and they were kind and answered all my questions about my guinea pig! They recommended all the right things and helped me understand much more about what I have to do to make my a baby boy feel Better! Definitely recommend SEAVS to anybody who needs help with their exotic pet!!

I drove from Raleigh, NC for my two male chinchillas to get neutered at Stahl's by Dr Magnotti. I had two chinchillas that became four (who would have thought?), and decided it was less invasive to get my two males neutered and attempt to unite them with my two females. I actually had read this was a risky procedure for chinchillas and had one local vet almost talk me out of it. I called Stahls and got a fabulous receptionist who put my mind at ease and shared the information about the different vets at the practice as I was having to change my initial appointment. She answered so many questions and I was convinced the four hour drive was worth it! Due to Covid precautions I did not meet the vet who did the surgeries but she called prior to starting and asked if I wanted a call after each surgery was done or after both. I thought that was very nice to offer. I found Mr Magnotti and her staff to be EXCELLENT, she was very knowledgeable on chinchillas, discussed diet and many other things relating to them and not just this surgery.
I would highly recommend Dr Magnotti and wouldn't hesitate to have a chinchilla under her care in need of surgery.

This is one of the best exotics in the area ! Dr Romo is great with my rabbits!

Yesterday I saw Dr. Emily Nielsen at Stahl Exotics, and she is the 7th veterinarian I have seen for my miniature chicken. I have been to Pender and seen 3 different vets there, I have also seen 3 other vets. Dr. Neilsen is the first doctor to actually figure out what is going on with my little Serama chicken. So thankful I found her, she is brilliant. After wasting about $2000.00 on vets who gave her all different antibiotics and checked her for worms, did x-rays, ultra sound, I now have Dr. Neilsen to thank for knowing what is wrong with my tiny little chick and how to treat her. She is also the nicest, most friendly vet I have ever met and for you blokes out there, she is stunningly beautiful! I also want to mention how nice Kathy B. the vet tech is and Katie at the front desk.

Another great visit with Dr. Emily Nielsen today! She is just wonderful, so smart, a person who radiates kindness and patience with big smiling beautiful eyes. She is so caring with my tiny miniature chicken. Today she had a vet tech with her, Baden, I had not met him before. He was a smart, articulate, and very nice young man! What a sweetheart! I also want to say the ladies at the front desk are always nice and friendly, every time! There is one lady, she faces the font entrance, has a blonde pony tail, she always remembers me and sends me back to sit down. I don't come that often so I really appreciate her bothering to remember me. Anyway, once again, so grateful to have found Dr. Emily Nielsen, the best vet I have ever been to in a lifetime of having pets in my family, starting at my birth! <<less

The staff is extremely professional and caring. Very friendly and kind especially in your times of need. They take very good care of your animals. if you need an outside opinion , they will either bring that person to the clinic or get your animal to their Clinic. They offer a wide variety of services the prices aren't that bad either. A usual office visit starts at $77 and goes up from there

Best exotic animal care in the DC area. Small mammals, reptiles and amphibians, all birds. They do everything and are the hands down best, you do pay for thier expertise.

I would like to thank Dr. Susan Baley and staff for their amazing service today! My budgie broke his leg and they were the only place that would see us on such short notice and at an affordable rate. Dr. Baley took her time on the phone with me, explaining what the prognosis was, and what was needed for my little R2D2 to get better. I appreciated her compassion and attention as well as the time she took to explain what the next steps would be. I didn t feel pressured or rushed to make a decision, which is rare in my opinion.

Took my chicken here. Everyone I spoke to was so helpful - and they always picked up the phone really quickly!

Great, Dr. Constanzo is excellent with my rabbits and came up with a treatment plan for my rabbit who has chronic upper respiratory problems.

I don t write reviews and as a vet tech myself I can understand mistakes and malpractice can happen. I don t blame one person but the staff as a whole.
On January 29th I brought my new parrot in for a routine exam and bloodwork... to make sure my new guy was healthy. The next morning I rushed my parrot to the ER where he ended up dying of cardiac arrest due to blood loss. It was a tragic loss. I even called Stahl s the night before because I was concerned he had a bloody nose. They said it was normal.
Just over a month later I called Stahl's and made an appointment for another new parrot. I walked in with my new baby for the appointment. I told them I was there for an exam for (my new parrots name). They couldn t find it so they asked for my last name. They said Oh, you have an appointment for (my previous parrot who passed away). This was something they should have been well aware of because I talked to multiple employees about my previous parrots death. There should be a way for their computer program to record that a patient is deceased.
I had the same vet tech and vet. The vet tech didn t recognize me (as a vet tech myself I know to research every patient and every client before I walk into the exam room.)
After the exam I walked out to pay. The woman behind the front desk is very impolite, no smile and acted as if I was irritating her. The employees behind the front desk are the faces of the clinic/hospital. They are usually the first and last people the client sees. She was the last indicator for me and after that I knew I was NEVER coming back to Stahl s.
Another thing I learned is that Dr. Stahl is the only board certified avian vet there.
With all these issues that have happened I can tell the employees do not communicate well. With the 5 star review I am very disappointed with my experience as a whole.

My guinea pig Dolly was extremely sick with stasis and Dr. Romo took amazing care of her and saved her. They entire staff is very kind and helpful and were very sweet and reassuring during a scary time.
