Good food, limited variety. Food was good, nothing that was noteable and would necessitate a return visit. However, the renovation is very nice and the restaurant is worth a visit if visiting Salado.

Highly recommend the Stagecoach Inn restaurant! My husband and I ate there for the first time and the service was great and so was the food. The restaurant was busy, but that did not affect the quality of our service. Our waitress checked in us several times. I had the sirloin and it was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. My husband had the ribeye and he said it was good. We also highly recommend the hush puppies!! We will definitely be back. The restaurant is beautiful and the history of the hotel makes it even more special.

Very disappointing. I have been going to the Stagecoach Inn since I was 12 or 13 years old (I'm now 75). This is an historical inn and restaurant in an historical place. The restaurant was known for its delicious food. I'm afraid that isn't true any longer. We were not there during the dinner menu, but there were a number of selections on the breakfast, brunch, and lunch menu. I ended up ordering the biscuits, andouille sausage, and gravy, mostly because I don't want garlic in my mashed potatoes or kale with my blacked eyed peas (mustard greens would be much better). When I got my food, I thought they had substituted crackers for the biscuits. I asked the waiter if they had fried the biscuits because they were flat and crunchy. Perhaps the cooks forgot the baking soda. My daughter ordered the chicken fried steak. It was tough, the breading was chewy, and the "garlic" mashed potatoes were more butter than anything else. It was also too salty. My grandson ordered off the children's menu, a cheeseburger with fresh fruit. He ate the grapes only. We're hoping he'll eat the burger later. The waitstaff was very accomodating and attentive, so no complaints there. Also, the prices are reasonable. We decided not to stay for dessert. I'm sure the chef is simply trying to present a more contemporary menu, but that doesn't fit the historical relevance of the inn or the area. Can you imagine Sam Houston eating kale? Also, the food should at least be prepared better. If this trend continues, the Inn might do a good business with the 20 to 30 crowd, but I doubt that the people who have enjoyed it in the past will eat there more than once.

Enjoyed my first visit to this gem since new ownership. The food was good, there are some changes to the old space and to the menu. You can never go wrong with a CFS, mashed potatoes and green beans. My wife enjoyed their burger. Would love to see some of the old menu items again.

For the atmosphere actually there should be only 1 star. The dining area was extremely noisy. It was impossible to hold a normal conversation. It was so bad that even the waiter had problems understanding our order. For that reason we will not be returning, which is a shame because the food deserves a 4 star rating! But I must be able to enjoy my dinner company as well as my food and this is not possible.

What a shame. A long time tradition is gone.

I don't mind the update building. The atmosphere is really in keeping with the original feeling of old elegance.

At first we changed tables 4 times. The chairs were flimsy and uncomfortable. The tables in the hallway are also a bad idea. I was at a table that when seated, I was in the middle of a doorway. Two customers left. Don't know why, except that one was sitting at the table we were finally seated.

The waitress and hostess were pleasant, but the explanation of the brunch menu vs regular menu was a little weird, the kitchen wasn't prepared for the regular dinner menu, however all dinner items could be purchased a la carte.

That is about a far as I can go for the experience.

The food was NOT the same. Every item I ordered that was kept from old menu had some recipe changes. Flavorless, chicken consume, processed like hush puppies, chicken fried steak and I don't know what they did to the Tomato Aspic, I wanted to cry.

The comments I was hearing from others around me were similar. It seems the management was not understanding that people come from all around the state to shop and eat at this long awaited re opening of a much loved spot in Central Texas. And on Thanksgiving weekend!

Sad so sad. I won't be returning.

Grew up going to the old Stagecoach and wanted to try the new. Hostess was super rude, never a friendly greeting just do you have a reservation? . Still not sure what that was about, but we were seated. Our waitress was super nice though, going over and beyond with her service. Food was not good at all and in no way close to the old stagecoach. Do not recommend. The decor and renovation was nice, but I could not get over the strong odor of mildew and mold! I do not remember that before. Ruined my meal! Will not be returning unfortunately! Makes me sad.

Service is usually great. Nice bar. Food is very expensive for what you get. They need a good chef to compete in Salado in their price range and they just don't have it. Very relaxing atmosphere.

The main reason we went to Stagecoach Inn was for the experience. We were disappointed that under the new ownership/mgmt the distinctive experience is gone. In the past, the waitresses dressed in period costume and recited the menu by memory (no written menu). Now, the food is good, a bit pricy, but nothing to distinguish it from any other decent restaurant.

Oh, how our Family misses the OLD STAGECOACH INN!!! The Salado Stroll and going to the Stagecoach Inn for dinner had been a yearly family tradition for years until a few years ago, but now the kids are older and we had the time again, this year we were starting back up... NEVER AGAIN will the Salado Christmas Stroll include a visit to Stagecoach Inn. :-( We arrived at 6 for our reserved time... Our dinner FINALLY arrived at 7:27!!! Yes, that is correct, almost an hour and a half for 3 chicken fried steaks dinners, a roasted chicken dinner and 2 salad dinners... I am guessing that they had to kill the chicken and then slow roast it, but no one ever said what took soooo long. In fact we only saw our waitress about 4-5 times in the TWO hours that we were stranded there. What once was a very fast & high quality service for a packed historical restaurant, is no slow with much of the dining areas now being used for meeting spaces, so they didn't come close to having the crowd they once had. We missed to bottomless hush puppies, which could have helped pass the time. Because we had 6 in our party, we were force to leave a 20% tip so the waitress received almost $32, which was no where near deserved for the limited times that we saw her, although once about an hour plus into our visit she did remark that she wasn't sure what was taken so long, but never investigated the delay, or at least she never came back to tell us what the delay was... my guess, the chicken, which we could have easily changed. The food was good, just not worth the time. We got engaged on Valentine's Day after dinner at Stagecoach Inn years ago, we enjoyed our first dinner as a married couple at Stagecoach Inn, and as a family we have had many visit to Stagecoach Inn for special dinners. This time we brought two special friends with our kids that had enjoyed the experience. This sadly was our last visit unless we hear drastic changes are made to go back to once was an awesome historical place to visit. The modernization to bring the restaurant up to the 21st Century did not serve you well, and this is coming from our 18 & 22 year old kids that like their traditions. :-/

Stopped for lunch with my Mom. The staff was attentive. The tex-mex menu was given to us and We were told the waitress would tell us about the traditional fare. The waitress went through several offerings. I'm not sure why they wouldn't just provide a complete menu up front. Both of us were satisfied with our food. My fajitas were good, got the beef and chicken combo. Stick with the beef. It was much more flavorful and juicy than the chicken. the hush puppies and broth that were complimentary were tasty (according to my Mom)

This is a historical jewel. The food has a basic southern/ central Texas style presentation. We frequently go to Austin on business and stop at Stagecoach Inn whenever possible. Salado is a small gem of a town and well worth stopping and browsing. The price for a Stagecoach Inn 4 course meal is certainly much less than trendy Austin restaurants or even informal BBQ places. You will spend as much at a chain restaurant on the highway--so I am not sure that I understand the complaints about pricing. We have a wonderful prime rib meal for $24. The staff is always courteous. You will have to plan ahead on holidays. Frankly-- we like it for it's old fashion qualities. The Inn is being remodeled, and the remodeled parts retain the traditional charm. To us it represents a facet of central Texas which is rapidly evaporating in the name of "trendiness". If you want overpriced dandelions or picnic food eat in Austin.

We stayed at Stage Coach growing up as a child and going back was an amazing experience! The rooms were very nice and the pool was amazing!! The heat made the pool a little warm but didn t take from the experience!

Stagecoach was fun but I d never want to stay there again. Rooms are far from restaurant, bar and parking. You have to park far from rooms and get a guy in a golf cart to take you there. Lots of stairs to room and no microwave, mini fridge or full mirror. Plus ice buckets but no ice machine nearby. We booked two downstairs rooms but they gave us upstairs rooms instead. Restaurant is 5 star though.

The service, food and atmosphere were wonderful. The had a good selection of craft beers. We had a marvelous time visiting and catching up with family and friends. If there was one thing to criticize, it would have been the acoustics. There was a much larger group of people near us that were too loud. The glass walls seem to make the vibration/sound worse.

Not a good experience: the food had no flavor, the waitstaff was cold when attentive (infrequent as such interactions were), and the price was ridiculous. 1.75hrs was too long a time for so small a meal at such a cost.

We used to go to the Stagecoach Inn many years ago. It was really cool, the wait staff dictated the menu from memory which they don't do anymore. The restaurant had an old western, turn of the century feel to it. Food was excellent. We wanted to take a special friend there since we heard they had remodeled. I made a reservation and we got there early and they seated us. Everyone was very nice, our waitress was over the top. Food choices were okay and prices are mid to upper mid-range. I ordered the "Roasted Chicken and Dumplings" the presentation was beautiful, however I thought the portion was a bit small for the price. The chicken was fine, but they were really skimpy on the dumplings. It tasted good but could have used more seasoning. Salad not included in the entree, and we asked for rolls, or bread. They said they really don't have rolls or bread (really?) but they'd see what they could do. Shortly the waitress came out with three small plates, each with two slices of toasted sandwich bread sliced diagonally..Good effort and charged extra. Thought it was odd that a restaurant of that caliber doesn't serve any type of bread. Our friends had the pork tenderloin which was really good and one had the chicken fried steak which was the best value on the table as it was HUGE. I do miss the more rustic feel but the dining room was nice, perfectly clean and everyone was very professional from the gentleman who seated us to the wait staff who was very attentive. I think we'll likely return.

Came here for an event. My table was completely ignored the whole night. We had to grab servers to get drinks 30 minutes after the rest of the room was served, & waited another 20 minutes for bottles of beer. I don't know how big my ribeye steak was, but it had more than 6oz of fat left on the plate. Poor service, several lights out, so the room was dark. All around, very disappointing for the price.

Yum yum yum. I wish I could go every day. My fish and chips were delicious. The strawberry kiss was perfect. What a fabulous cup of coffee!!
Additionally our petite server was quick and constantly there exactly when I needed something and was incredibly polite and professional. Absolutely love this place (and it's renovation was years ago but it's so well done!! Love how welcoming this place is!)

If I could put a NEGATIVE 100 I would!! Worse service ever and NOT THE ORIGINAL Stagecoach Inn. Took a long time for food to be severed which was under cooked and raw. When told about food allergies but still brought the food out.

It's been a few years since my Wife and I have eaten here due to renovations and my work schedule. The new look is quite nice with the hard wood flooring instead of carpet. The doors from the foyer to the dining area are much wider and more inviting. And, there is a bar, now. Unfortunately, they no longer recite the menu, but, they do have an expanded menu than before the reno. The service was very good and attentive. We had a minor issue with my meal and the server and manager remedied it immediately and appropriately. I would even say beyond appropriately. My wife had the BBQ Shrimp and I had the SCI Burger with the Works. The shrimp was seasoned well and cooked to a succulent perfection. My burger had a good sear and was cooked to a juicy medium well. The only downside for me was that the meringue for the strawberry kiss was a lot less than was previously served. We will certainly return, though.

I'd love to give this a higher star rating just by the aesthetics of things. And this review is mainly for the restaurant, so be sure to take note of that.

The menu is great and has a lot of unique and interesting dishes which is super. I'm told the Prix Fixe menu is the same as it has been historically. The Prime Rib menu was also affordable if you're looking for a course meal.

The problem is the service. We had to remind our server multiple times about waters, side of green beans, and a coffee at the end of the meal. She disappeared after taking our signed check - so strange!

Go for the food, stay because you can't find your server to get your final bill and now you live here.

It is a nice place just remolded and re opened after all the road construction around Salado. The restaurant itself is nice and it has a full bar. Don t expected a high class dining experience. It is just regular food dressed up to look pretty but The was old ok.

Service was terrible for our party of 5! The waiter never checked on us. We had to get up from our table a total of 4 times asking random wait staff at the bar area for condiments and refills. We also asked for coffee after our dinner and were promptly told that they ran out of coffee filters. When the check came, we asked the manager to remove the charge for my son s kids meal since my son never received condiments and since our meal was disrupted from having to get up so many times. The manager, Madison, refused to credit the $6 kid s meal off our $110.00 bill, stating that my son had in fact finished his meal without the condiments. Negligent and oblivious staff!

I drive to the restaurant every few months. The food and service is excellent! I have brought friends from Austin, Florida, VA and Fort Worth. Everyone loves the food. I have been visiting Selado for the past 25 yrs. The Stage Coach Inn has greatly improved the service and food !!! The renovations are fantastic.
