This place use to have one of the best reputations in the Rochester area! Now, they hire any and everybody! From the staff parking issues and nasty security guards, to the incompetent nursing staff! The nurses are usually not trained correctly and rushed off training just to meet the staffing numbers! The state came in and they had some dings for the staffing, and lack of supervision. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians! The aides are so unprofessional, rude to the residents, impatient and uneducated! They allow anyone to become a caregiver these days! So sad, people don t deserve to be treated so unfairly or neglected! The nurses change job titles like they change underwear! Aides should not be allowed to snap on family, residents or their supervisor!! Keep hiring unqualified, uneducated, people who lack compassion for others who are only there for a weekly check and this place will definitely be in hot water in no time! One more thing to finish it off, they allow street clothes for nursing staff as well! Very unprofessional! Nurses and aides wear tights, flip flops, head raps, scarves, long nails, big earrings, fake body parts, sweat pants, tee shirts etc Quality of care should matter!!! Let s get back to the old St. John s who had such a good reputation!

My mother is now 91, and was much more able when she entered St. John's. All the caretakers, including docs, RNs, LPNs, maintenance, etc., have provided care ranging from very good to exemplary. She can be very difficult to deal with, and the staff always rises to the challenge. I am very thankful, since I couldn't do this.

Do NOT bring your love ones to this facility the Staff does NOT show ANY care for your love ones here, there are patients that cannot explain or defend themselves properly and have bruises on their bodies and the Staff have no idea or answers and no follow up or call you to inform you of anything, so please DO NOT BRING YOUR LOVE ONE TO THIS FACILITY!! The Staff members here DO NOT care about any of the patients. I and a Security Guard witnessed a St.John Employee come outside get inside a car and had sex with the driver, smh, this is a discussing place,...the State should shut this facility down!

I had a horrible experience at another facility, so I was nervous about going to St. John's. The minute I walked in I knew I was in a first class facility. Every staff member I dealt with went above and beyond their duties to get me healthy and comfortable. I also recommend the food, especially the baked goods. I can't recommend this facility enough. They are the best!! Thank you St. John's.

I have to agree this is the worst place to put a loved one. My mother went down hill fast because the lack of care. When I would come she was always soiled and hungry. She wasn't bathed & the staff was always standing around gossiping about their co workers & on their phones. I came during the night & found the staff members asleep.

I would give negative starts if google allowed me to! Please, please, please do not place your loved one here! My family member was here and was treated so badly and never bathed! She was someone who needed to be fed and nobody would take the time to sit with her and feed her and she deteriorated very quickly. The staff are unprofessional and wear street clothes and there is no type of management at all on these floors. I've reported several incidents and nothing was done about! Do not bring your family member to st johns! They will not be cared for properly!

Well, I guess the morning (5/26) D&C settles it. St; John's had always IMO been among the better nursing facilities in the area. Over the past several years, a friend who's mom resides there has dealt with more uncaring and unresponsive staff than not. That it is ranked (corporately) as 1-star Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services "Much Below Average" is not a surprise. And should there be any denials, staff knew well what the recent audit found: understaffed; poorly supervised. The conventional wisdom is this can be traced to the appointment of the current CEO.

UPDATE: After reading their response, it infuriated me at the generic answer they were able to give. I didn't make my review after reading others reviews. I made this review after witnessing a wonderful employee get blackballed out of a job because their coworkers made up a lie to get them out of there after almost 20 yrs of service. St. John's gave absolutely no reason as to why the employee was losing their job. Due to this employee having a strong work ethic and some other employees not having that strong work ethic there was tension and it was much easier to get rid of one then the others. This was confirmed by many employees who worked with said employee for many years. That's where I'm getting my opinion for this review. I know this person very well and they had an excellent working record for almost 20 yrs. This is a sad way to treat people who dedicated themselves to your facility and residents...

.... Just hearing a story of what happened to a former employee makes my blood boil, not only from said employee's perspective but from many employees and family members of current residents. This place doesn't care about "quality care". They care about money. The bottom line is they will sacrifice a wonderful, caring employee for a bunch of trash that refuse to do what is needed to give these wonderful residents what they really need. And that is QUALITY CARE! I guess it's easier to get rid of one whistle blower than to have to replace a bunch of worthless employees. Be careful where you place your family members. And be vigilant in their care. The best looking places can have the most rotten employees.

Take it from someone whose worked here, and has a lot of friends who worked here, they do not care about quality of care. They do not value their employees. So don't be fooled, it's all a front! They love to fired great working people! WHOEVER works here or has any type of problem, I suggest you record everything!!!! Get witnesses!!! They love to lie on people cause they lied on me and many others. I brought it to the ceo attention, he didn't care. He said he felt that he wasn't qualified to deal with it. So he directed me right back to the people who lied on me. Very toxic environment!

When I tried to alert someone that people were getting missed at meal times, care plans not being followed, and nothing happened! Just made me a target!

So please record everything!!! They love their right to fire people for no reason cause like me and many others, that's what we were told.
Me: so your firing me for no reason?
Julie in HR: ""We don't need a reason to fire you!""

My husband David Hamelink is on the fourth floor in the South Building. Most of the time I'm satisfied with his care. My one complaint is that when I visit no matter the time, he is covered in food. His chair also has food on it. Can't he be cleaned after each meal? I did this for the almost four years, that I was his caregiver. I do like the fact that on weekends and holidays Dave's floor has plenty of staff.

If I could give less than 1 star I would. I am very disturbed with the care given here and the amount of unprofessionalism I have witnessed. St. Johns is not how it use to be. I would never place a family member here EVER!!!
