Sports Garage Cycling Review

Look, this is Boulder. There are bike shops and there are bike shops. Brad and his band of merry cycling gurus is the latter. Brad and I embarked on a three month project to get me onto a bike that better served my needs. Essentially, exclusive road cycling has become more dangerous I wanted to get onto gravel and light trails in addition to the occasional paved surface. The team at SG found a wholesale buyer for my road bike, stepped me through the pros and cons of various gravel bikes, kept me informed of the purchase and shipment of the bike, and went out of their way to keep me on a unique travel schedule to swap out the bikes. I can't say enough good things about this crew. Emil was the consummate professional in the shop and even taught me some new things about bikes while he did some finish work. Fred put my fit into the bike and was instrumental in helping me understanding some of the more esoteric variables in bike fitting. There is no equal in my experience. This is the best LBS on the front range and they'll have my business for life.

This shop carries some great brands, including: Wilier, BMC and Yeti. Their sales team is very knowledgeable, and they really do put the customer first. They even talked me into buying a less expensive bike because it fit me better. Thanks so much!

The bike shop to go to for all things off-road. Gravel, mountain...The staff and owners are as friendly and helpful as it gets. If you're looking for a bike, they'll go above and beyond to find something that suits you, fits your budget and you will absolutely love.

I cannot say enough about the entire SG team - helpful, engaged, friendly - just incredible customer service that you don't expect to encounter, but feel excited when you find it. As a mtb newbie, I was bracing myself to feel intimidated and out-of-place, but it was all for naught. After a month of demos, I left the shop with a beautiful Yeti. What a great experience with which to enter the biking community. I'd recommend Sports Garage to anybody, and hope to continue to stay connected through their clinics, rides, and other events.

In my opinion this is the best bike shop in Boulder. The workers are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and do whatever possible to get out on the trail.
I ve gone to other shops in Boulder looking for replacement parts and if they don t have it in stock they just shrug and have you go on your way. However, at Sports Garage Cycling, they ll take the time to look up your part and order in a replacement for you.

Sports Garage is an awesome biz. Foremost, staff is very congenial, knowledgable, unpretentious, authentic, supportive. Love SG's dirt specificity. Every other facet is top-notch: mechanical prowess and attention to detail, brand portfolio, a cool, historical quonset hut facility at a nice central location.

Awesome demo process, super knowledgeable and helpful staff and great buying experience. Their customer service is top notch - Fred went above and beyond to get me my bike as quickly as possible after a factory snafu that was completely out of SG's control.

Very nice, did good work. When doing work put my dropper lever back on the wrong side, not a big deal but not perfect and kind of a pain to switch back.

Just picked up a very lightly demo'd Santa Cruz Bronson from the kind folks at Sports Garage. I've had a few friends buy from them, but this is my first bike purchase from the SG crew. What a great experience. Granted, I didn't need to test a bunch of bikes, it was more love at first sight, so I pulled the trigger fast, after just a couple laps around the parking lot. I will say that Frank and the service crew went above and beyond getting the bike to "new" condition, as, (mentioned earlier) it had been demo'd under 6 times. They bled the brakes, pulled the lowers on the fork, serviced the dropper and cleaned it up so it looked absolutely brand new, aside from some marks on the drivetrain / cassette.

Overall, I felt so comfortable with this shop and really felt like they will stand by this bike for years to come. That's a rare and important thing for a shop. Thanks to Sports Garage for getting me on the Bronson.

Great guys there. I bought a bike from Brad (the owner) he is incredibly friendly and helpful. The bike I bought was not available right there in the shop so he had to order it. The order ended up taking a few days longer than usual. I was annoyed at first because I had made plans to ride and I passed along my frustrations to Brad. He gave me a Demo bike to ride in the meantime which he didn't have to do but clearly keeping his customers happy is important to him. Also his employees are very smart and helpful as well. Buy local, these guys will take care of you.

My favorite shop in Boulder. I bought a used Yeti and the folks at SG were kind enough to educate me on the needed maintenance and to help me work through a few small issues I had to address at no charge. As a result I make a point to purchase my parts and service there. In short, a very stand up establishment.

Need to demo high end bikes? Check. Need the money spent on renting demos to go towards purchasing the one you like best? Check. Need to trade in your bike to help purchase that new bike? Check. I worked with 3 different folks (Omar, Dan, Brad) and they all were phenomenal. Great communication, they got everything perfect for the custom tweaks I requested on my new ride...it was the best bike purchasing experience I have ever
had! These guys know their stuff, are serious riders themselves, and know everything about the brands they sell. Do yourself a favor and come check them out. Thanks SG!!

If you are in the market for a mountain bike, do yourself a favor and go to Sports Garage. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The demo program here is awesome, great selection and they set the bike up specifically for the rider each time. Placed my order for a Pivot Mach 5.5 on a Wednesday afternoon, I was able to pick on Monday at lunch, AWESOME! Sports Garage exceeded my expectations.

A friend referred me to the Sport Garage saying they are one of the best shops in Boulder, CO. I stopped by to look at new and used bikes and I agree with her. The staff was great helping me with my questions and finding me the right bike.

Contrary to what many seem to believe, Boulder is not entirely populated by avid cyclists. I was a bit nervous going into a shop aimed at more serious cyclists as a casual commuter. These guys were great. They were very responsive in setting up an appointment, and were both friendly and professional when I showed up. My commute experience was vastly improved with a quick tune-up. Whether I continue at my current level or start trying to take it up a few levels, I would definitely go back.

Great, knowledgeable staff. Everyone was friendly and helped me find what I was looking for. A week later when I needed some support, they went above and beyond to help me out. They have my business for life.

Was in search of a better bike service in the Boulder/Denver area and was referred by a friend to this shop. I was happily greeted at the door by one of the owners and I gave him the run down on my bike shop experience and what was going on with my mtb. He was very kind and unhurried in his demeanor. He got one of the mechanics right away to start looking over my bike. Now, for some people like me, my bike is my baby and Frank (the mechanic) thoroughly impressed me with his care, knowledge, and trouble-shooting. Frank kept me up to date on the status of my bike and gave me thoughtful options when he hit a snag with my suspension. I am thrilled to have found this shop and I cannot wait to support this business. Thank you so much Sports Garage!

I recently demo'd a couple of bikes through Sports Garage. Brad was awesome; he's an incredibly personable guy and his staff was great. They have the best bike brands to ride, and also some of the best rates: I was able to ride bikes for 3 days at the price that other shops were charging for 1. I've been in all the Boulder shops, some I'll never go back to, but this was the best customer service I've had.

My experience at SP Cycling has been great so far. Went in and met w/ Chris for a refit on my road bike. I left feeling like Chris really took the time to truly fit me on my bike. Chris ask so many questions and would keep checking and rechecking to make sure that I was seeing all the options. I took my bike home that day and felt much better in my saddle and had more power thru my legs and stability thru my feet and didn't feel the numbness in my left foot that I had always experienced. I highly recommend a bike fit with Chris.

Brad and his crew run a great shop. Omar is the lead mechanic and will take great detail in tuning your bike. They also have some of the fastest turnaround times in the front range.

Excellent mechanics, super knowledgable salespeople, great fitting. They fixed the squeaky bottom bracket on my singlespeed after 2 other shops tried & failed. Their demo program is excellent: they take lots of time to make sure your bike fits and the suspension is set up properly and so on. I recently bought a Pivot 429 (after demos from them and a couple of other local shops) from them and couldn't be happier.

I wouldn't go anywhere else. Every time you walk into the shop everyone is friendly and helpful and didn't judge me when I went to get my 20 year old bike fixed up. So guess where I went to buy my new one? Great guys and they really know their stuff. You won't be disappointed!

LOVE these guys. About the only shop in town I will let work on my bike. Brad and the staff at SG consistently go WAY above and beyond for us - getting us back on the trail ASAP. Can't say enough good things about the SG crew. Highly recommend.

We have purchased several bikes from here. Our impression is that they are super knowledgeable, friendly, and honest. They are a small outfit in a cool funky location and it seems most of the time the actual owner is present.

Very courteous, prompt, and reasonably priced! I had my bike boxed at SGC and they very courteously offered to drop the box off at the FedEx across the street. Would definitely take my business to them again, and recommend them to others too.

These guys do amazing work. Their super knowledgeable staff were able to work through some crazy unexpected hurdles (frozen linkage bolt) and get my bike back up and running. All while being clear to me about what they were doing with my bike and the potential risks along the way.

This review is for their bike fitting service only. I have never purchased a bike from sports garage, only because I get amazing team deals from a different bike shop because I'm on a college team. Absent the great deals I get elsewhere, I would get all my new bikes from SG. I don't normally write reviews, but the service I get from SG is just so good that I want to share it.

If you are considering a bike fit and you live anywhere within driving distance of Boulder, there is literally no other place you should go. Here is why SG is better for a fitting than any other place around: (1) SG has better control over it's fitting process because to my knowledge the only person doing fittings at SG is Chris Jacobson the shop owner (yes, it's a local business). At other places you might get a very experienced fitter or you might not. At SG you're getting Chris and no one else. (2) Chris at SG is maximally interested in the outcome of your experience because Chris owns the shop. (3) Chris uses the latest technology. He videos your pedaling gait and then superimposes lines representing the angles of your body. Not only that but he keeps archives of the videos for future reference. (4) All the guys at SG are passionate cyclists. (5) None of the guys at SG are bike snobs. Yes, they all ride awesome bikes and are all in great shape, but no they will absolutely not talk down to you, make you feel stupid, or make you feel bad about the quality of your current bike. What they will do is set your bike up perfectly and use their bike knowledge to help you. When I first started my relationship with SG, Chris explicitly explained to me that he does not accept bike snobbery from his employees, and it is true.

If you need a bike fit (and honestly anyone that rides a road bike on regular basis NEEDS a bike fit - I learned this lesson the hard way. The cost of a bike fit pales in comparison to the cost of a repetitive use injury. Believe me, a bike fit is the best bike related money you will ever spend. Stop trying to "push through" that nagging back, knee or muscle pain. You are damaging yourself), anyway if you need a bike fit, go here.

I honestly can't say enough good things about Sports Garage. Brad's honest, expert advice led me to buy a fantastic Pivot 429 Trail. All those I spoke with at Sports Garage were very courteous and professional. It's your money, spend it wisely - buy at Sports Garage Cycling.

I stopped by Sports Garage today hoping to try out new road bikes. Though I walked away without a bike, I walked away happy and with much more knowledge. I'm looking for a true intro level bike with an aluminum frame which SG does not carry; however, unlike other shops I've checked out in the area, there was no up-sell pressure when the bikes available were out of my price range. The person I spoke with gave me great advice and also tried to see if he had flexibility to make a carbon frame work in my budget. This was totally unexpected, but gave me great confidence in the shop. If I ever do decide to upgrade my bike, I know exactly where I'll be headed.

I've been coming to Sports Garage for years for all things bike related. If you're looking for customized and thoughtful recommendations for a new bike, a better set up for an existing bike, or a really well curated collection of accessories and trail recommendations by people that ride locally, this is the place. I find myself just dropping by to check out sweet bikes, and chat with the staff because it's just that type of place for me. I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking to get great service and looking to become a great biker.

Bought a Pivot LES in January. Ive been riding and racing for 20 yrs. One of the best customer service experiences i have ever had. From Cam who put the deal together, to Chris who gave me a professional bike fit, Paul who sold me on the bike, Brian in service who has been teaching me how to maintain the bike. If your looking for a shop to take care of you, you couldnt find a better selection of bikes and top service. A local shop with a personal feel. You walk out of the shop feeling like they took care of you like they would a sponsored pro.

Had the opportunity to demo a few bikes to purchase, and Dan & literally the entire team were an absolute pleasure to work with. Wouldn't buy a mountain bike anywhere else.

I have been getting my bikes serviced in the Boulder area for 15 years. The service and new bike purchase experiences I have had at Sports Garage have all been excellent. I won't take my bike anywhere else in Boulder. Sometimes it takes a week to get your bike serviced because they get booked up, but its because they make your bike ride great. Two thumbs up!!

Easy day of picking up a demo bike for the weekend.

I use Sports Garage to maintain my 3 mountain bikes and they always do a great job. I work with their tech Anthony a lot and he always is super helpful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend using Sports Garage to anybody that needs extra help with those difficult or easy mountain bike repairs and maintenance.

I have now purchased 2 bikes from SG and I can t say enough about how great my experience was with both of them. The staff is filled with real down to earth people who are riders and passionate about bikes like me. They spent a ton of time educating me about my options and I really felt that they wanted to get ne on the right bike. I never felt for even one moment that they were trying to sell me anything. Having been in retail a long time I know it takes a genuine interest in providing the perfect product for a specific client s needs. I really appreciated this. Though I love the bike I got from them I did run into many issues that at one point required the bike to be fully replaced. SG was amazing during this very frustrating process. They took such good care of me, always trying to remedy the situation as fast as possible. They never made me feel like I was annoying them and did eventually work with the company to replace the entire bike with a new one. I can t imagine this happening at any other shop. I feel great loyalty to SG and recommend it to everyone I know who rides.

I walked into this shop and said "I came all the way from Long island to buy a Santa Cruz Tallboy 27.5+ size medium". They had exactly what I was looking for (or were willing to order what I wanted). Everyone is the shop was more than accommodating and wanted to help. They spent a good amount of time setting the bike up for me and teaching me everything i needed to know about from taking care of carbon to tubeless tires. It couldn't have worked out any better. In the past five years, I've purchased two mountain bikes from Sports Garage, and go there for all repairs and routine maintenance. My experiences have been uniformly positive. I had custom fits for both bikes, and they made a difference to the quality of my rides. The sales staff explain benefits of the products they offer, without applying pressure to buy particular brands or models. The mechanics are knowledgeable about all components, and how they interact with my riding style; when they fix something, it stays fixed. I am greeted by name every time I enter the shop. I give Sports Garage my unqualified recommendation.

Brad and his team have been have been amazing - helping us demo the right bikes by listening to our thoughts and reactions and steering us to the choice that works for each family member based on their very unique skills and riding style. Brad and his team at Sports Garage Cycling are the BOMB! I rented a demo bike at the start of the season and LOVED it. So, when I returned the bike, I ordered one up.

COVID affected delivery but, the team handled this with grace by keeping me updated on the status and in the loop throughout the whole process. I am sure it wasn't easy calling to say, "Hey! Your bike is not in yet but..." multiple times but in these times what can you do.

Once my bike finally arrived, it was slightly different than what I had ordered...in a good way!! I am one happy customer and HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend doing business with these guys. Not only are they easy to work with but really rad too!
