TL:DR; DO NOT DO A DATA RECOVERY AT FRIENDLY COMPU...

TL:DR; DO NOT DO A DATA RECOVERY AT FRIENDLY COMPUTERS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. DO NOT RISK IT!

I have a 4tb hard drive that became unallocated from windows updating and turning it into a bootable drive. I never formatted the drive and thought that I would take it to someone instead of doing it myself. I went to Friendly Computer on the North Side and gave them (Specifically Anya) a complete run down of what happened. I have a paper index of every file that is on the hard drive and know every folder that s in it, it was exactly 2.1tb of space used. I have never deleted a single file on the hard drive and have used it to back up my video library. Anya and I talked and I told her everything and she told me that it was going to be $75 to $100 and that I would have to pay a $75 dollar down payment. So I did. 2 weeks later I get a call from Anya and she tells me that she pulled off 6tb of info off the drive and that it would be $399 dollars to get them to finish the recovery. I was dumb founded and asked her to explain so she replied with the program will pick up any file that has been deleted (remember I said I had never deleted anything off that drive). I ask her why it was over the amount that she had quoted me and she blabbed on about how it takes so long to do a transfer and has to charge per hour. Suspicious I ask her what files are on the drive since I have that paper index of what s supposed to be on the drive. She replies with oh I m having a technical difficulty I m going to have to call you back. Perfectly timed technical difficulty. I would never have agreed to pay the down payment if I had known it was going to cost that much money. I would of gone to anywhere else including the Geek Squad who charges under half of that amount. That is a SCAM to get money off you so that they can get paid for doing nothing because they can either rip you off by making you pay a ridiculous amount or if you refuse to let them do that they just steal your money because I asked for a refund and they said no.

For Future Customers:
Save your money and take your broken technology somewhere, anywhere else.

For Friendly Computers Management:
I m not unreasonable, I just want what I was quoted or I want my money back. And if not I m more then willing to redefine the word Petty while I go to unbelievable lengths to save people from experiencing the same scam that I did. Which for starters I m going to write review after review to drive them down to the proper rank of One Star, and then contact the better business bureau and then I ll pay my nephew to stand on the street with a sign warning every customer to not do their business at Friendly Computers. And then I will use word of mouth to let everyone know to stay the hell away from Friendly Computers. I feel bad for all the other people that could of been scammed by this place but don t have the time or the will to stand up for themselves. You have my number. Do the right thing.

Fantastic company!! Locally owned and managed in Spokane, I hired Friendly Computers to help set up a new desktop (purchased through them) and printer. The tech, Drew, was a dream to work with. He was amazingly patient, friendly and extremely competent. This young man went way beyond the call of duty to help -- he even put my new vacuum cleaner together!! Seriously, I wouldn't call anyone else now or in the future. Best experience ever with a computer company! Julie Montgomery

Had a Macbook that I spilled orange juice on. Took it to them and they saved my butt. Fixed it and I didn't even lose any data. I had not hooked up my time machine drive in quite some time so I was really worried about it. Already sent a friend of mine here for some issues and they had a great experience too. Would recommend to anybody with any Mac problems.

Had the pleasure of calling the North store and working on my anitvirus issue with Anya. Through some investigation Anya was able to figure out that my AVG antivirus was out of date and needed to be switched to Avast. She was very easy to work with and having the Friendly Computer Remote Access program on my computer made diagnosing the problem easy and seamless. Overall the entire process was easy to update to Avast so that my computer had antivirus protection through Friendly Computers. Excellent experience and I recommend Friendly Computers to my friends for their computer repair needs. Thank you for providing such customer friendly and knowledgeable service.

We needed a very tiny screw for mounting a M.2 SSD hard drive which apparently if you don't have on hand can be a challenge to find. That being said, Friendly Computers not only had what we needed but provided several different sizes and amounts to be on the safe side and didn't charge us anything! So grateful for their help! They just became our go to shop if we need any help in the future.

My husbands MacBook Pro is his lifeline for his work. So when the MAC encountered major problems that we could not repair we did our research, checked reviews, and chose friendly computers in North Spokane. Chris was professional, patient and calming. Assuring my husband that even though he needed the computer for a day or two he felt he could bring it back to life. Two days later the Mac was ready and you can t imagine how ecstatic he was when he turned it on and it ran like new. These guys are ethical, affordable and really good!!

I am so thankful for Friendly Computers!! I took my macbook in, and although it was pretty much toast, they were able to recover all of my files, and back them up onto my external hard drive. I was so happy to be able to recover sentimental family photos. Their customer service was outstanding, and they were able to answer all of my questions clearly. In the future if I ever have computer issues, I will be returning. Thank you!

Truly I did not know what was wrong with my computer. I had let some coworkers upload information on my personal computer and ended up with a mess. I dropped in at the North Spokane office and Ray Boston worked on it less that 5 minutes and had it working perfectly again. He was friendly, pleasant and made me laugh before I left the office and that is exactly what I needed! I appreciate the cheerful "can do" attitude Ray brought to his work! You can always expect good service at Friendly Computers.

I accidentally spilled coffee on my laptop recently. While my laptop, an older refurbished one couldn't be saved, Anya was able to transfer my hard disk and all my data to a newer model refurbished laptop that I have been very happy with. She also coached me on various issues regarding the newer laptop I was just getting acquainted with. She and the other staff at Friendly Computers are so very helpful, professional, and knowlegable. They made a very stressful situation for me go a lot easier, and I was thankful for all their assistance.

Sam at "Friendly Computers Spokane" has been a Godsend! Having been extremely reluctant to trust my laptop to a stranger, I had not used it for a long time. After reading the reviews for computer repairs online during a visit to Spokane, I called "Friendly Computers Spokane." Sam epitomizes the name. He put my fears to rest during this call then re-affirmed my confidence in him when I went into the office with his professionalism, knowledge, thorough helpfulness and friendliness not only for me but also for another customer who was there at the time. Sam kept me informed of his progress while he had my laptop, offered suggestions and options for making it even better and ultimately fixed the problem and more. Since returning to my home town Sam has been readily available via telephone for further questions. With kindness and friendliness he successfully assisted me through the technical difficulties I was having.

This business has you pay a good sum of money for diagnostic services up front before they even look at your computer. It cost me over $100 for them to tell me the cracked screen on my laptop would cost several hundred dollars. I knew that from a google search on my own. I am guessing it took them less then 5 minutes to make that discovery. The other laptop I brought in was also over $100 just to look at it. I m pretty sure I spent $200 per hour plus for my repairs/advice. Next time I will do it myself from YouTube

Anya - I am a boomer and not totally computer ignorant. I use a computer quite a bit. Months ago when I was having real problems with my computer and thinking " I am going to have to purchase a new computer", I passed the Friendly Computers store and stopped in. They very kindly explained their services to me and it was then I found they would make an appointment and come to my house to evaluate my computer and tell me just what was the problem and fix it if it could be fixed or not. They fixed my computer and requested if I would like to have
their antivirus program installed and when I problems in the future all I would have to do is contact them and they can attached to my computer and see exactly what is going on and help me thru the problem. This has been wonderful. I have had several tech problems that I wasn't sure how to proceed with and after calling them they hooked in with me could see the problem and what I was doing incorrectly and show me the correct way to do what needed to be done. The people have been so helpful and courteous to me and I couldn't be happier with Friendly Computers and their people!!!

I had a very bad experience here. I brought my computer here and asked if it was even worth fixing. They said yes it was but also said nothing about only a only a 30 day guarantee at the time.
They called me and said they had to remove everything off the computer to fix it and it would be another $100 or so dollars on top of the $110 I already paid. They also said it would be a good idea for this protection thing for another $69 so I agreed.
When I went with my husband to pick it up they had lost part of my pictures, etc. The manager called the guy who worked on it and in front of my husband and I we heard him say to him " Why didn't you back up her stuff first"! I almost started crying right there.
We took it home and plugged it in and it worked for about 5 minutes. I called the store and was told I could not get a refund (I wanted to just go buy a new computer since they lost half my stuff anyway) but was told I had to bring it back again so they could try and fix it. It was then I was told about the 30 only guarantee.
I had to go buy a new computer and eat the $215 REPAIR and the $69 computer protection and end up with a NON-WORKING computer that has a year protection on it!
My advice is to avoid this place like the plague!

Ultimately the fixed my computer which is what I w...

Ultimately the fixed my computer which is what I wanted, and it works again

Here s the long story.

My computer that I built in Spring 2020 began having blue screen issues. I took it apart multiple times attempting to find the issue and ultimately came to the realization it was the motherboard or the cpu.

I decided I didn t want to go further on my own, and I didn t want to wait what can be months for a replacement Mobo or cpu just to possibly have to replace the other.

I ended up taking it to friendly and explained all I had done.

They do have a $100 diagnostics fee, but let s be honest all, they have a lot more overhead than Joe Schmoe working out of their basement. They have a store front, employees, the top tools needed.

Anyway, let s continue. I don t remember the exact time frame here, but a few days go by and I get a call while I was out and about. It was explained that it was either the motherboard or the cpu (yup, made it that far), and that the motherboard would be $200 (approx) to replace. It sounded odd so I literally asked in that moment is it a newer or upgraded? I was told it was the exact model. I thought maybe I had the price wrong in my ahead so I agreed and that was that.

After I made it home I went back over my purchase history and saw that I only payed $100 (approx) for the motherboard. I called confused and was told we get our parts from a specific vendor that covers part for defects, warranty, and lemons. I was even more confused and explained that every vendor covers replacements for lemons, and the manufacturer has a warranty already. Then the script was changed and the extra charge was because they had over head, utilities, cleaning crew, and a storefront (paraphrase). At this point I was getting flustered, I maintained my composure, allowed the employee to speak, didn t raise my voice, but I did continue to stress my confusion and frustration about not getting a straight answer about where the 100% mark up came from. I mentioned that I understated how overhead works, I am a freelance worked, I also have overhead. That s what their diagnostic fee and labor fees are for, and a mark up on items is reasonable, but a $100 markup on a $100 item was a bit ridiculous.

Ultimately the conversation went nowhere past that. I did request a conversation with the manager and was told I would be contacted by them later (I never was). I did call back to apologize to the employee about getting flustered because I knew it wasn t their choice to charge that, I was just extremely confused about the cost and wanted transparency about why it was that price.

As I stated I never got that call from the manager, the next call I got was to say the motherboard didn t fix the issue so a cpu was being ordered. The price I was quoted for the cpu was exact retail..... no mark up at all... anyway.

The new cpu came in and worked great with the new motherboard, in an attempt to save me some money they tried the new cpu with the old motherboard it worked momentarily then stopped, and actually fried the new cpu haha. All in all the issue was the motherboard was bad, and it s issue was it was frying CPU s so both needed to be replaced.

Honestly I would have likely given 5 stars had the whole price debacle never happened at all and I was charged retail for the motherboard, heck probably 4 stars if I was told sorry about the confusion $100 is our minimum make up for motherboard replacements because all I wanted was transparency. Even 3 stars had I gotten that call from the manager.

I was obviously okay with the $100 diagnostic fee, heck I even said right off the bat that I was willing to pay to get it fixed faster that go through the RMA process that would have allowed me to fix it myself for free. It wasn t about the money all in all, I paid the bill and didn t dispute it at all when I went to pick my computer up, all I wanted was transparency. I never received that, and because of that I am going with 2 stars and will unfortunately choose other avenues if I need computer work done in the future.

Several months ago, Friendly Computers did work for us: Windows 10 rebuild and hard-disk clean out, for which there was a reasonable charge. Subsequently, they have passed up TWO CHANCES to charge me plenty.

Today (Chance #2), the PC wouldn't wake up from an hour on "Sleep". I schlepped the thing over to their branch on the north side of the Subway building in the Five Mile Shopping Center near Francis and Ash.

Chris connected it up. It fired right up for him. He said it must have just needed to go for a short ride in the car. He counseled disconnecting the power for a while if this happened again.

Even after I brought it home, it booted right up and is running fine.

My Wife and I started using Friendly Computer on the North side of Spokane to solve our WIFE connection problems. They have increased the speed on our present Lap Top by 2 X for a fraction of the cost of a new Lap Top and captured all of our data history at the same time.
A PLUS.
Have came out to the house and synced our devices.

Keep in mind we have limited internet service (3 mbps) and use a Micro-cell to achieve Phone service. This makes it interesting in the way all devices need to work efficiently.
The staff has been understanding and flexible with our needs.
