TL:DR; DO NOT DO A DATA RECOVERY AT FRIENDLY COMPU...

TL:DR; DO NOT DO A DATA RECOVERY AT FRIENDLY COMPUTERS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. DO NOT RISK IT!

I have a 4tb hard drive that became unallocated from windows updating and turning it into a bootable drive. I never formatted the drive and thought that I would take it to someone instead of doing it myself. I went to Friendly Computer on the North Side and gave them (Specifically Anya) a complete run down of what happened. I have a paper index of every file that is on the hard drive and know every folder that s in it, it was exactly 2.1tb of space used. I have never deleted a single file on the hard drive and have used it to back up my video library. Anya and I talked and I told her everything and she told me that it was going to be $75 to $100 and that I would have to pay a $75 dollar down payment. So I did. 2 weeks later I get a call from Anya and she tells me that she pulled off 6tb of info off the drive and that it would be $399 dollars to get them to finish the recovery. I was dumb founded and asked her to explain so she replied with the program will pick up any file that has been deleted (remember I said I had never deleted anything off that drive). I ask her why it was over the amount that she had quoted me and she blabbed on about how it takes so long to do a transfer and has to charge per hour. Suspicious I ask her what files are on the drive since I have that paper index of what s supposed to be on the drive. She replies with oh I m having a technical difficulty I m going to have to call you back. Perfectly timed technical difficulty. I would never have agreed to pay the down payment if I had known it was going to cost that much money. I would of gone to anywhere else including the Geek Squad who charges under half of that amount. That is a SCAM to get money off you so that they can get paid for doing nothing because they can either rip you off by making you pay a ridiculous amount or if you refuse to let them do that they just steal your money because I asked for a refund and they said no.

For Future Customers:
Save your money and take your broken technology somewhere, anywhere else.

For Friendly Computers Management:
I m not unreasonable, I just want what I was quoted or I want my money back. And if not I m more then willing to redefine the word Petty while I go to unbelievable lengths to save people from experiencing the same scam that I did. Which for starters I m going to write review after review to drive them down to the proper rank of One Star, and then contact the better business bureau and then I ll pay my nephew to stand on the street with a sign warning every customer to not do their business at Friendly Computers. And then I will use word of mouth to let everyone know to stay the hell away from Friendly Computers. I feel bad for all the other people that could of been scammed by this place but don t have the time or the will to stand up for themselves. You have my number. Do the right thing.
