My family and I stop for snacks at this place and we were not happy with it, we noticed that hotdogs were over cooked and fries were very salty and the buns didn t taste good, felt like the were microwave twice!
Ohhh well.

They make a decent dog with some good toppings at this local chain. The buns are a little heavy and I'm still looking for a sausage place that actually grills their dogs, but Spike's makes a mean Chicago dog in the meantime.

Had some family from Japan visiting, and after a Fenway Park tour, we were hungry for some hotdogs, and boy was I happy to find this place. The atmosphere was great, food was excellent, and the staff was very welcoming. It was the perfect finish to our Boston visit. Thanks for everything!

Such a neat find. Everything is reasonably priced, and the menu is quite large. There are plenty of free and low cost custimizations that can be made so you never have to have the same thing twice unless you want to. I have a food allergy and they were really great about making sure my food was prepared away from the allergen. Definitely worth it if you like gourmet hot dogs.

We love spikes. The dogs are super good on delicious buns. Try the German shepherd and the curly poodle fries. Additionally, we were babysitting someone with a bunch of allergies. The cashier was extremely helpful.

Although my meal was great, I came to find that the price for said meal was just about outrageous. Regardless, this is a good restaurant and you can not go wrong stoping by if you're in the area and want some good food. Atmosphere is fitting for the title as well.

I normally don't eat hotdogs but ended up here with friends. It has a small, spunky interior and stays open late. The staff was really nice and the dogs were pretty tasty and creative.

Boston is NOT a hot dog town so the fact that this place even exists is a miracle. I love this place so much for its simple direct approach. They are solid from beginning to end.

PS ..load up on their sides! that also rock.

For my first gourmet hot dog experience, it was DELICIOUS. Good options to serve many different tastes; the bun is delicious; the honey mustard is some of the best I have ever had; and you get a great portion for the price you pay. Delicious!

I used to stop here as a young twenty something after the bars. Always loved the staff, atmosphere and most of all the dogs. Menu is more than hot dogs but with so many custom dogs on the menu I don't think I ever tried anything else. I have since moved away and grown older...... today while in town I could not resist a junkyard dog. Went with my favorite the Texas ranger dog with fries. It did not disappoint. Even after all these years and hyped expectations it tasted so good, still my favorite dog. Ps the Fries are good to. Thanks Dave!

Great food! They had a veggie dog that was so good. So glad I found somewhere where I can have a delicious vegan hot dog.

Try the foot beer. It really does compliment the dog well.

This place was awesome. The food was on point and well priced. There owner was very kind and had no issues with new guests taking time to process the menu. Our kids were a little tired and grumpy from walking in a different city but he handled it well. He had our middle kid laughing by the time she got her food. Highly recommend and will be back if we're traveling this way again.

I visited Spikes for the first time the other day! This is a pretty cool hot dog spot. It was recommended by my best friend, and I am glad I tried it. We are both vegetarians, and they have a large handful of vegetarian options! The More

The manager was very nice and knowledgeable about what tasted good on a hot dog. Food came out quick and tasted delicious. The flavors blended well together and the dog was great. I'll ask for less signiture mustard next time. The mustard was good but it over powered the mixture.

Open late on weekends; perfect snack before/after a night out. Stare in amazement at the record-breaking/shameful pictures of gluttony on the walls. Highlights: Texas Ranger, Junkyard Dog, 57 Chevy, Joka Dog, Curly Fries, Chicken Fingers

I went here March 23 2019 with my girlfriend.
I left my house in Concord ma to drive all the way there ( 41 minutes) in the hopes of a great hot dog.
I ordered the lonely guy hotdog.
It presented well and all, but the taste of the hotdog itself was not good. I couldn't even finish the last bite. I expected it to be amazing...it wasn't.
If I here that they change the hotdogs I may return. Until then I wont be returning.
And I LOVE a good hot dog too...smh

When you take the hotdog business seriously, but not yourself! Spike's keeps the fun in the atmosphere and menu, along with a friendly, helpful staff. The Texas Ranger and Freaking Hot were exactly as advertised. Looking forward to future visits when I can try more of their offerings!!

You have not eaten a hot dog unless you've eaten one from Spikes! Not some flimsy hot dog roll but real French-like bread. They really are best in the world. Great value for the money! Do not miss this place! Can't wait to go back!

Spike's junkyard dogs are a late night favorite from drunks of all walks of life. Featuring a prominent role in Troy Schoeller's underground classic, 'Semicolon,' Spike's is a timeless Allston institution

I haven t had a good hot dog in a long time. I stopped eating beef a few years ago now and I ve sadly been stuck to eating disgusting veggie dogs since. My friend told me that Spikes Junkyard Dogs has the best veggie hot dogs in the world. I was dubious as my experience with veggie dogs has been less than ideal but I can confidently confirm that this small home strung hot dog shop has the best veggie dogs in the world. I ordered the veggie buffalo dog and it was so delicious, I had to sit and reflect on the experience for several minutes after finishing it. 10/10 recommend. Good job.

Spike's Junkyard Dogs is a Boston institution, providing the best hot dogs and chicken sandwiches in the city until late every night.

If you're not sure what to try, I'd recommend the Junkyard Dog (meat or vegetarian), a poodle fries, and Spike's root beer.

Went here with the kids last week and we ALL liked it. The choice was great, the food was good, the staff friendly. And I loved the sink in the dining area so washing up was a breeze post-chili dog.

Consistently awesome. The condiments are always fresh and available. The quality of the hotdogs is pretty ok, not as hearty and beefy as Pinks, (For reference, I'm well aware there are none of those in MA.), Spikes hotdog buns, or should I say, sub rolls are amazing.

The guys working the are pleasant, the speed of service is well above average. This is s great spot for that cheat day.

ever since i heard that champion joey chestnut from my hometown won nathan's hot dog contest in nyc, i've been dying to figure out how i can get a piece of the action. now i can, right here in boston. spike's junkyard dog has a hot dog eating contest. this challenge can be taking at anytime at any of their locations. what's even better, vegetarians can participate as well.

I'll admit that maybe, maybe this place was just having an off night, but this was easily the worst chicken sandwich I have ever attempted to eat in my life. I say "attempted", because eating a sandwich that is nothing more than two large flat pieces of chicken placed on a open, half toasted sub roll is not done without some level of oral gymnastics. They do provide a sink for washing your hands! That alone is worth a whole star, and you'll freaking NEED that sink too, because when you DO try to eat the two large pieces of chicken placed haphazardly on a piece of bread, entire mound steaming with BBQ sauce, you'll be covered in all manners of edible preservatives. But, I went over to use the sink, and it was out of paper towels.
So, that was my experience, and I write a ton of positive reviews go look at my profile, this place was awful. A colorful, well decorated package of some of the worst food I've ever had. In an effort to write something positive, the fries were alright.

If your in the bc / Brighton area this dogs are a must have!!! I been going to spikes for a couple years now and when I m on my lunch break I always fly by spikes for one of their signature hotdogs.

Disappointing. Nothing necessarily bad, but it felt very standard. Nobody at my table was impressed. Food took a long time to be made. Only one employee was working there. Was over 5 minutes before he could take our order and we were front in line.

Stopped in for a quick dinner with my boyfriend and the girl that took our order made a small mistake, no big deal. The owner (I assume) proceeded to scream at her behind the counter the ENTIRE time we were there, and as the only people there it was extraordinarily uncomfortable. It was a very small mistake, she accidentally gave us 2 meals instead of 4 regular hot dogs. We weren t mad at all, the owners reaction just had us feeling so bad for the waitress we wished we hadn t said anything.
On top of that, the fries were cold and dry, and the hot dog isn t even cooked on a grill. It s cooked in one of those mini oven conveyor things you d expect to find in a college dining hall. My boyfriend and I were so perplexed by this he went to ask if they had a grill, and instead found out they cook their burgers with essentially a panini press. The interior is extremely cute and friendly, but the owner is beyond intense and the food is very disappointing.

Just tried their junkyard dog for the first time and I was thoroughly impressed with the freshness and the snap while biting into the beef of the dog. Can t wait to try them all to find out which dog is my favorite.

I'm from NH but was in the Boston area & decided to give this place a try. I got the Lonely Guy Dog, fresh squeezed lemonade, and the Poodle Fries & my boyfriend got the Junkyard Dog without tomato's.
Overall experience was good. I didn't really care for my hot dog, but my boyfriend said his was really good. The poodle fries were also good but could have used more salt/seasoning.
The best part of the experience was definitely the atmosphere & customer experience. The walls are covered with cute fitting decor and the employee there was patient & listened well to our customized order. Sometimes places get the order wrong if you make too many adjustmennts, but not this place.
I would definitely go back and try some of their other options since they have so many! I recommend this place.
