Took some coworkers into NYC for dinner, got off the PATH at Christopher St and walked up Hudson. Within 3 blocks we stumbled into Spasso. Great pasta. Really nice waitress. Best Pino Grigio I have ever had. Cheese plate was intense. The prices were very reasonable. Will go back.

Very crowded and noisy but overall pretty good. Although in an area within a seemingly large number of quality italian restaurants, I'm not sure this stood out to me. The Orecchiette w/ shrimp, crab, bottarga & white wine that I ordered was quite good and I'd definitely recommend it.
Inconsistent would be the word to best describe our experience at Spasso. It was pretentious without substance, if that's not an oxymoron. The most important features were the least well executed. The service was just okay, and certainly put off by seemingly minor requests (in all fairness it was a Saturday night). Not a single manager bothered to stop and ask about the meal/experience - during or after. The staff just did not seem to care. As for the food, it was full of potential, but like the staff, suffered from a lack of execution. The mussels, while nicely prepared, lacked flavor and were cold. Some other dishes that were supposed to be served hot would have benefited from at least being lukewarm (eggplant risotto and seafood oriecchette). So, it might be reasonable to say they have a systemic problem of a lack of effort.
Sat once at the bar at Spasso - a great experience, which I would highly recommend. The other time I sat at a table in the window - also great. The food is delectable and the service is professional.
The pastas here are outstanding, and the room is warm and romantic except for the fact it's a notch too noisy. Months later and I'm still craving the fussili in pork ragu with goat cheese and mint.
I dined here using a GILT coupon. Although we had a bit of of trouble with the reservation, everything else was handled professionally and efficiently. The waiter was quite educated on the dishes and the coupon itself. I left satisfied and yearning my next visit.
Forget customer service, I tied up my dog outside and they tried to give her boiling hot water. I burned my fingers when I realized... terrible people.
