Do not communicate well with students. Professors do not care for students with mental health issues.
Graduated in 1994. Set me on a path to success. Still support the place.
SMSU has been a awesome experience! I love the professor's very down to earth and real life experienced.
Many years ago, I participated in my last national wheelchair paralympics held here at the Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota. A nice campus. We stayed in the dorms, which were okay. Their track and swim center were very nice.
Our son is starting his 4th year. For such a small university, it has incredibly good offerings.
Unhelpful with planning classes, general academic advising, and no career advice. There s not much pride in academics / no academic culture, and I was very disappointed by the fact that there isn t much discourse on diversity and inclusion to make students from all backgrounds feel welcome.
Although I didn t have a positive experience with the institution of SMSU, I did have some wonderful professors who clearly care about their students and academic development. Within the town, there are few opportunities for internships which is not the fault of SMSU but is something to note for students not interested in the fields of agriculture or business. I transferred to the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and it's the best choice I ever made.
I received an excellent education here. The class sizes are small, and I had significant interactions with all of my professors. The school has a little bit of everything in terms of amenities such as a cafeteria, sub & pizza restaurant, Starbucks, bookstore, auditorium, student lounge, extensive library (made studying easy), well-established gym, and an excellent football field. Finding a parking space here was never a problem. Their veteran's department is helpful in getting you set up with your VA benefits.
The discrimination against people who choose not to wear a mask is unacceptable. SMSU should consider treating people with respect regardless of their position on the mask issue.
