We absolutely LOVE this location! My children love playing sports here. The child watch staff are amazing and I no longer have trouble dropping my children off with them while I workout. My daughter absolutely LOVES taking gymnastics classes along with being a member of the Cheer Team.

We've had a family membership for over a year and get a lot of use out of it. We like that the indoor pool gives us something to do with the kids in winter months and their confidence in swimming and around water has really improved with the frequent pool trips. I enjoy the group classes and feel that the instructors do a great job and make the workouts fun.

I enjoy the spinning classes but don't really go anymore since there are a very limited number of bikes and you have to sign up a week in advance. The classes seem to fill up with the same 10 people every week, making it difficult to get a spot. The locker rooms/hot tub area could be improved as they always seem to have a mildew smell and don't feel extremely clean but overall we're happy with the facility and our membership.

I am writing on my wife's account . My Name is Dan Borkowski. The maintenance at the South County Y is less than adequate. More times than not many machines are broken down, the whirlpool is closed, the sauna is closed and today the steamer is shut down once again. These are ALL reoccurring issues that last for weeks at a time. I am not a silver slipper member so I pay for a family membership and would expect a swifter result in repair.

The showers in the lockers are clean and even have curtains! I have been working out here for a year and everything is the same.

I am participating in the LiveStrong program at the Y right now. Such a great program!! Thank you so much for offering it. Love the South County Y. The staff are all really supportive and friendly. The pool is awesome! I ve tried several classes and have been very happy with them. Lots to choose from and love being able to just drop in on a class to try it. The fitness room is my favorite. Impressed with the cleanliness of this location too!

We LOVE Coach Jess of the All Stars Dance Team! My daughter wouldn t have progressed as she has without Jess and she certainly wouldn t have been confident enough to try out for the team. Jess builds the girls up and provides the structure and drive to make them great. We can t imagine doing dance anywhere that she s not!

We are so grateful to have joined the Y this month...

We are so grateful to have joined the Y this month! We used to be members of a chain gym, but it was way too crowded and had nothing for our children to do but watch TV while we worked out. Here's what we love about the Y:
- The kids are well cared for while we work out. The employees in the kids room actually play with them, and there aren't even any TVs in that room!
- There are so many things to do! Plenty of classes and different rooms. There are also plenty of machines in the fitness center and a system in place for when it's busy.
- The pools are great! The adult lap pool is nice, but the kid pool is even better. It's 2' deep at its shallowest, so I can take all three of my kids in there by myself and not worry.
- There are numerous affordable programs for kids. Karate, dance, gymnastics, swim, soccer, etc. And you have options for each. If your kids want to try dance for a month, they can do so without you having to fork out the cash for recital outfits. You aren't committing to hundreds of dollars wasted on a three month dance program.
- The foyer is awesome. There seems to be a great sense of community where people can come hang out after their workout and chat over coffee. I can even bring my laptop and work for a few minutes while my kids are well cared for.
- Last but not least, the employees are wonderful. They are all so helpful and friendly. The overall culture that we have encountered in our short time as members is that they all love their jobs and love people. It's such a refreshing shift from our previous gym experiences.

If you want more than just a crowded generic gym experience, JOIN THE Y!

We hosted a bridal shower here last Saturday and Shelby went above and beyond to help us get everything set up in time! I am the maid of honor and just had one other person there to help me set everything up, so not sure we would have gotten it all done without her help :) Thanks again Shelby!!

over all just a terrible experience. Ive been a member at this ymca for about a decade. ive worked out here in the gym for 2 years. I canceled my membership 6 months ago after a very rude woman who supervises the gym told me i wasn't deadlifting quiet enough and she recommended me other gyms. i recently came back for a trial and decided to do deadlifts again. i was using blocks for block pulls and the same lady said i was 'damaging equipment' when i didnt damage anything at all. She was trying to use that as an excuse to get me in trouble but in reality she likes the gym like a library. she took a picture of me and the blocks to show to her manager( i dont know what her objective was). I felt highly disrespected and basically ruined my whole workout for the second time. Basically i just walked right out after this. If you are a serious lifter do not even step foot in the ymca. It is probably worse than planet fitness. Also alot of the equipment such as the squat rack is completely broken. i will never come back here again, feels like a hostile environment with the a select few gym staff.

Edit: this is just based off the gym/weight room experience

I usually go to South City and Kirkwood Y to workout and take classes. I decided to take a yoga class at the South County Y (9/15). The teacher and class were the most unprofessional I have experienced in over 30 years of working out. All the lights and fans were on when class started. We were all supposed to do self guided sun salutations with no instruction regarding form while the teacher chattered away for 15 minutes about all the places she could get free treats for her birthday month. I had to walk out. I wasn't going to waste another minute of my time on chit chat social hour! The 'instructor' said she leads a 'laid back' class. Based on her class I don't think she has had any formal education to teach yoga. I felt horrible for the new people trying the class. I rallied and went to the Kirkwood Y for a yoga class led by an instructor with real credentials. The Y should audit their classes, this class was a joke. I am going to stick with South City and Kirkwood where I have never been disappointed!

I have been a member to the Y off and on for over 10 years. Staff members are friendly and welcoming. Facility is clean, along with up-to-date equipment and popular exercise classes. Outdoor track is a plus for those who don't enjoy the treadmill, as well as an indoor track during winter. Definitely recommend for anyone to check out!

Very anti-consumer practices. Attempted to sign up for a trial membership and the person signing us up attempted to charge us because "the people who handle trial memberships are not there on Sunday". When I went to cancel a few months later they refused to refund the membership fee for the upcoming month because we canceled after the 20th of the month.

The facilities were fine, but they'll make absolutely sure you overpay one way or another.

The reason this place gets 1 star is because of the customer service! We were up there for 45 mins to an hour. There was a African American gentleman there named Rowland who did absolutely NOTHING! he was lounging in his chair chilling the whole time. Nobody was in front of us and we waited to be called to the counter for help. After about 5 minutes we walked to the counter. Again we were away from the counter cause the sticker for COVID told us where to stand. When we got to the counter he didn t acknowledge us or say anything answered the phone and sat on it. We then walked over to an AWESOME individual named Josh who helped us as fast as he could to get memberships. During this time Rowland got off the phone strolled on over and said I don t want to work here anymore ! Didn t ask if he could HELP! didn t apologize for ignoring us, but went back to his seat to sit on his butt. Josh continued to work by himself getting us squared away. After about 45 min to an hour we said don t worry about it and walked out cause he was getting killed by himself. The gentleman named Rowland should not be working there if he doesn t want to be there. That YMCA is putting him as the first contact to show what the YMCA is I feel bad! He s terrible and we will not be back! Josh you are awesome and deserve a raise for how hard you worked. We watched as he tackled 3 different groups all by himself and Rowland do nothing! Even when a lady came he pushed her off on him. Smh the guy needs to GO! Hire someone who cares and has customer service.

The people are amazing! The staff is well-trained and very helpful. They always make me feel welcome. There are some things that could use some sprucing up, especially the ladies locker room. Most of the guests are happy to be there and get to know one another. Joan in gymnastics is so kind and works so hard to keep everything running smoothly. The staff in the fitness center feel like friends and Judy at the front desk is always so happy and friendly!

I'm not surprised this location has such a low rat...

I'm not surprised this location has such a low rating.

A few months ago, my car was deeply keyed, I was at the YMCA only for an hour for my daughter s gymnastics practice, the front desk staff told me the cameras were not able to see the place of my car. It wouldn t surprise me if an employee was the one to key my car.

On June 21st, I received an email from Jenn, who has coached my daughter in gymnastics since she was three. The email informed me that the YMCA executives had terminated her, as well as others, employment effective immediately. Jenn also informed me that she was not aware what would happen to Tiny Team moving forward.

On July 1st, I called the front desk at the South County YMCA, asking if the Tiny Team had practice at their normal time, 6pm. They said yes. My daughter, her uncle, and I show up for practice only to find the doors locked with a note saying no practice from July 1- July 7.

On July 8th, I called the front desk staff asking for Joan, the gymnastics director. It went to voicemail, so I called the front desk again, asking if there was practice for Tiny Team at 6pm. They told me yes. For dual diligence, I decided to email Joan. I asked her what changes will be happening to Tiny Team now that Jenn is no longer there, she responded letting me know that my daughter could continue coming on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-645pm for the pandas, which I believe is a low-level class. Or she could attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 445pm to practice with coaches. I responded to Joan explaining how I was disappointed this is the first time I m being communicated with about this change, but never received a response.

After the third time I was being told incorrect information by the front desk staff and director, I decided to call and ask for the head manager, they said they would transfer me to Jenny who has been disrespectful to me before. Once I was on the phone with Jenny, I started to tell her a little bit of the gymnastics situation, she cut me off and asked me for my daughter s name. I was reluctant to disclose this to her, because then she would know who I was and not be helpful. As soon as I told her my daughter s name, Jenny s demeanor changed, and she became disrespectful as I expected.

She informed me that she emailed me about the changes to Tiny Team weeks ago, I let her know I never got it. She responded with, well is this your email? Because I sent it. I told her that I check my email all throughout the day and I never received it. I also added the fact that two times now her front desk staff has told me there is practice when there isn t. She wasn t interested to hear how her front desk staff was communicating false information, and proceeded to say, well maybe you shouldn t be a member here anymore . The conversation ended with profanity and disappointment.

AVOID THIS LOCATION AT ALL COSTS.

Older facility but great staff and on of the few places with racquetball courts left. Great group of guys on Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. We can always use more players though. Front desk is always helpful. They have pickleball leagues. pickup basketball early on Friday mornings. Really enjoy it there.

The reason we have a Y membership is because our daughter takes dance at this location. We love coach Jess!!! She puts her heart and soul into these classes. We most definitely would have moved to another studio if she was not teaching. My daughter has grown leaps and bounds in the year and a half we have had her as our coach. We would not be Y members if she was not teaching dance! I have never seen a teacher who is so dedicated. Coach Jess is amazing! She is building these young ladies into not only great dancers but teaching them countless life lessons by a great role model.

You can find my family and I at the South County Y almost daily! Our kiddos participate in SO many activities, from swimming to soccer to basketball to their competitive cheer team, this Y has so much to offer! What we love most about the Y is the staff that work with the children. The child watch/hub staff took the time to get to know our kids. They are caring and interact with the kids! It's so much more than 'babysitting' while we workout! The cheer team coaches are amazing too! They care SO much about the girls on the team. They make it a point to send out special birthday messages to every girl, celebrate achievements (above getting a new skill), and support the girls when they are struggling.

Besides being a great place for our children, this Y has introduced us to some wonderful new friends! Some of our closets friends are friends we've met at the Y!

This facility has really gone down hill. It s dirty, there are always kids in the adult locker room, and they use the racquetball courts for taking pictures and anything else they feel like. The only reason we joined here is for racquetball and now you can use the courts for anything you want. You say something to the staff and they look at you like you re an alien. Such a same. This place was top notch, but not anymore.

The Y is a great organization. It serves a much needed role in today's community by providing activities and facilities for youth. Better youth, stronger families, better communities. I've been a member for 20 years.
The men's locker room could use some improvement. The carpet needs replacement and the showers need repairs.

Coach Jess Carlson, leading our Studio All-Stars dance team, has been such a blessing to our daughter! Under her leadership, our daughters passion for dance and dedication to a team has dramatically increased. Our daughter comes home from school each day either being excited she has dance that evening, or disappointed she doesn t have practice scheduled that night ; ) Coach Jess is a wonderful role model, and works so hard to share her passion and talent with the team.

I recently had my membership on hold due to the pandemic. I only go to the South County YMCA for the Racquetball courts but as soon as they started up my membership they take away a court to use as storage for construction. When I called to find out why they didn't simply rent a pod to store their other things they didn't have an answer. They are poorly managed and have no thought for their members. I don't see why anyone would keep a membership there. It's 4 times what a normal gym membership is only to be treated like they could care less if you use their facility. Just sad.

The South County Family YMCA makes the members feel like family. Jess, the dance team teacher/coach, has not only taught my daughters the necessary skills to be great dancers but has has helped improve my daughters' self-confidence. The front desk employees have made me feel like an episode of Cheers because everyone knows my name. The clean staff go out of their way to make sure the place is spotless and to make sure that all guest have a great experience at the Y. If you want a judgement free place to get healthy, the South County Family YMCA is your place!

We love this Y! Our preschooler has gone from being terrified of the water to swimming the full length of their lap pool. He s about to enter his third year of preschool camp and not only does he love it But this mama feels 100% confident that her child is in a safe, nurturing environment. He also participates in boys tumbling, sports, and martial arts. I love that the Y has something for the whole family and programming for kids of all ages and interests.

I would give a 0 star if I could!! This is the second time I had an issue at this facility. The biggest let down was the staff. Most of the staff are friendly, however, the supervisor there was very rude and was not customer friendly!!! Her attitude was very disgusting! This is absolutely the rudest person I've ever met in my adult life. Also, the gym is very small and claustrophobic to me. This facility does not have a lot to offer. Terrible service, very unorganized! Avoid them if you can!!

We absolutely love the swim lessons at the South County YMCA. We were a little uneasy about the cost, it is definitely cheaper at other places, but you get what you pay for. We did swim lessons at the Arnold rec where it was cheap and there were a bunch of kids teaching the swim lessons who would flirt and not pay attention to the kids. After our son went underwater and no "teachers" noticed my husband pulled him out of the water and we have not returned. The Y has been a blessing. After two rounds of swim lessons my 5 year old can almost swim alone!! The only reason it isnt 5 stars is because it's hard to find out the registration days, very confusing.

When I was a child I took classes and went to camps, as a teenager/college student I work there (11 years) and worked out like crazy, and now I'm there as an adult with two children to entertain. It's such a treat to introduce them to my second home growing up.

This week, just after getting to the Y, I heard over the loud speaker that the pool was being closed because of Lightning. These are indoor pools. A number of young workers told me the building wasn't grounded for Lightning. I doubt that. But they made everyone leave the pool.
I was very dissatisfied by this ridiculous inconvenience.
