I recently checked out Sound Central during my first visit to Montreal. I noticed a few records that caught my eye on the discogs page so I had an idea of what kinda stuff was there

There's lots of residential area around the shop so finding parking wasn't too bad. Shawn the owner was super welcoming, personable, funny, and helpful. He's been apart of the Montreal music scene for many years and has lots of cool stories.

The shop is organized well and has mix of used and new vinyl. He definitely has more used selection which is just what I'm into. He also carries some cassettes and CDs. Lots of genes too poke through, but I spent more time on the punk, hardcore, and alternative bins. The inside of the shop is also cool with lots of posters, flyers, and other stuff adorning the walls and ceiling.

The prices were very fair and condition of everything I was interested in was good. Shawn even hooked me up with a tape from his 90's punk band Blood Sausage. I'm so glad I stopped here and would recommend checking this shop out!

Small place, but with great character. The gentleman who worked there, you could tell he loved what he was doing but respected your space and your interest in searching through his collection. A lot of random old stuff you can find there. Also, metal and punk records. I loved the selection and the variety abd obscurity provided in this shop. Homey and authentic. I would def check it out if you're looking for things you won't find anywhere else. Also, inexpensive.

As an expat NY'er, this humble (yet complex) record store is one of the hallmarks for Montreal Underground music (specializing in the provision of quality local acts like Dopethrone, Powercup, Vulgar Deli, and Crimes amongst others), and a welcoming oasis of coffee, CDs, vinyl, music-related literature/video/toys/etc. that made me feel like I was back on the Lower East Side. Steeped in an unrepentant musical "True Grit", this establishment embodies a jackhammer-wallop of drive and purpose. As well as the physical establishment, their online shopping cart is clean and well-organized, with all current releases easily found under a well-indexed classification standard. Having embraced socialization long ago, Soundcentral is easily located on both Twitter and Facebook (with numerous fans and likes to go around). For the vinyl aficionados, it's well worth an afternoon browse that may net you treasures worthy of Memory Lane (just picked up "Get The Knack" for RIDICULOUSLY cheap, with awesome playability). Just get down there, already? You won't regret it.
