Let me start with the fact that we have been going to Sonodas since the late 1990's and have consistently had a positive experience. However, it seems that it's time for a break...we had a reservation for a group (10) tonight and the service was below even the most tolerant of expectations. Everything was disorganized and delayed:
..to start it was 40 minutes to get water, constant prodding and reminders to our waiter (who also happened to be the host) to get drinks and food that was ordered, forgotten soups and appetizers...and everything took significantly longer than it should on even a busy night...and there were still open tables to be had this evening. On a positive note the sushi was still quite tasty (the reason why this review isn't a 1 star), but the overall experience was so frustrating that likely we will not be returning in the near future.

Wasabi on all sushi. After the first order, I asked for no wasabi...she brought all 3 other orders with wasabi all over the rice. I paid 140 for a meal that I disliked. Server did not care and wouldn't correct it. Sushi Katsu so much better in every way

When our family is going to visit a sushi restaurant, it is the first place to go. Sushi is always fresh, tasty and well-presented. The Happy Hour specials are great. The staff is super attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend visiting.

5 Stars! This is my favorite sushi spot, i ve been coming here for over 6 years now and I wouldn t put any other spot above it. They ve always treated me as if I was family and they make my favorite- Bobs Rolls even though it s not on their new menu. Lots of Love to Sonoda s and my two favorite sushi chefs.

This place has quickly become my favorite sushi place in the area. Consistently fresh and high quality fish every time and a great place to go for true japanese sushi - not just american style rolls (although those are good too). Reasonably priced as well. I've only gotten takeout/delivery due to covid and it's always well packed.

Great food, and Kirin on draft is a rarity.

I left my credit card at the restaurant and had to return the next day. The store owner met me outside of business hours, which was much appreciated.

Good service but honestly some of the worse sushi I have ever had. As part of a sushi meet up group I have extensive experience with eating sushi. It tasted very fishy which fresh sushi should not taste. It was worse than sushi from the grocery store.

Decided to try this place out since we drive by it all the time. It was my birthday and my son's first time trying sushi and I wish we would have just stuck to our usual spot. I'm surprised that people go back here and that there is good reviews. the worst Sushi I've ever had. I literally had to wash down each piece with water. My sons was also awful. Will not be back and would definitely not recommend. I was surpirsed how slow they were. Our usual spot usaly has a line out the door for their dinner menu....guess now we know why this place barely had any customers at all. Sashimi smelled bad and was all "mushed" I should have took a picture but being the only people in the restaurant I wasn't trying to be totally obvious and rude. The reviews must be all family cause this place was dead and I cant imagine any sushi lover coming back with so many other wonderful options around. I usually feel amazing after a good sushi dinner. But now I can't get the taste of fish out of my mouth and not feeling to great at all. Fyi pretty sure its not family owned and or opperated. Majority of the cooking staff and sushi chiefs were Hispanic.....

I ordered to go because I was fighting the flu. I wanted to split the udon noodles into two to go packages. They said they will not split them for anybody. They even told me they lose money by splitting the noodle bowl. It was a terrible customer service experience. Besides that, nothing has been updated in years. The bathrooms look like they were from a poor public school. The dinner wear is light blue and out dated. The decor has never changed. They have one TV and it is from 1999. This place use to be top notch but never innovated. I won't be back.

This is more of a 3.5 star sushi spot. Very friendly staff and sushi bar staff. Rice was a little mushy, opposed to a traditional sticky rice. I ordered to rolls and was full with one! Portion size is huge for sushi, I am not complaining at all. Over all it's a good place for cheap sushi.

The sushi wasn t fresh it was warm and not even good. I stopped eating it. Also happy hour prices are either the same price or .50 cents or so cheaper. I tried this place based on reviews and will stick with my favorite sushi place in Colorado which is Osaka Sushi.

Coming from Los Angeles, I didn't know what to expect from a sushi joint in Denver. But the quality of food and service at Sonoda's is on point with my favorite Japanese restaurants outside Little Tokyo. Good price for great food and comfortable atmosphere. The magic mushrooms make a delectable appetizer.

Went for dinner, lighting is low but the place is clean. Sushi rolls were good size and tasty. A little skimpy on the veggie tempura. Sake was amazing. A bit on the pricy side, $54 for 3 rolls, tempura & sake. Nice server

Girlfriends and I wanted to try a new sushi place, so I picked Sonoda. The sushi was good. My friend took to bites of the teriyaki chicken and stopped eating. Service was much to be desired. Two of us ordered tempura. Waiter brought it out without the dipping sauce. When I asked for the sauce, she said they ran out and offered teriyaki sauce. I was so mad. Who eats tempura with teriyaki sauce. I said I wanted the sauce and fresh order of tempura. She brought me out the same tempura warmed, but said it was fresh. Also, noticed the the portion size served was not the same around the table, but we were charged over 7+bucks each. I spent over $50, but left disappointed.

Would not recommend. Waited 1 hour for our food. Only ordered 3 rolls. The excuse was that they were busy. The place was maybe 1/4 full. People who arrived after us got their meals before us. And the sushi was not even good. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

I m real picky about my sushi. Having traveled the world to many different countries it s hard to find sushi that s up to my standards. This place is the place to go. I m visiting Colorado and was very skeptical however this place is legit. The food was great and I will be returning ASAP.

Love love love this restaurant! I have been a patron for over 22 years and look forward to every time I can go. Amazing Unagi and rolls. Staff has been there for as long as I have been going. Always consistent and friendly.

Our waitress was so patient and funny. There was a group of 5 of us. Whenever we would discuss what was in some of the food she definitely let us know who was right and who was wrong. The fight between what was in the green hornet definitely got intense when one person thought it was eggs and the other one said it was balls of wasabi. The second guy was right. Thank you for allowing us to come in and eat. The food was delicious!

I ordered delivery, the shop is three minutes from my house. My husband and I ordered sushi, and it was absolutely disgusting. It looked nice, but the rice was extremely over cooked, and the rolls all fell apart because of it.

This place has been an Aurora mainstay for many years. The sushi is always fresh, the staff is always friendly, and the food always arrives promptly. In the 20+ years I've been going there I've never had a bad experience.

Love Sonoda's! Great sushi and great service. We used to go all the time pre-pandemic and just recently went again. They have the distancing and cleanliness guidelines down so you can enjoy good sushi and feel safe!

Delicious, affordable, and the inside has lots of pretty aquariums. They also do their very best to make their customers happy and I appreciate it! I've only been once, and they were short staffed or something because my time waiting for staff was a little too long.

Restaurants come and go but Sonoda came to stay. Decades of success with professional sushi bar and reasonably priced, fresh entrees. Good for special occasions, happy hour or entertaining business clients. I have done all of these things with good results. If you get a frequent diner card, then they will build points and return $10-$20 gift certificate to you over time.
