The original Sonnys in Gainesville FL is always busy when leaving the dragstrip. Will stay open late as long as they have a steady crowd. Good service and food.

This is my favorite place for BBQ when visiting Florida. Great food with a huge glass of sweet tea.

Haven't been to this location in a while, thought I would give it a try again, but disappointed. Friend and I shared sliced pork/pulled pork plate Sliced pork had lots of greasy fat on it and pulled pork was so dry and hard. Fried pickles for free app- tasted like cooked in fish oil- Not going back.

The customer services is horrible at this location, when asked for a manager they prolong or avoid coming to your table sending a responsible through the waiter. I'm a loyal customer to Sonny recently started visting this location on Waldo road because it's close to my home since I've relocated however I'll be driving to 39th or Archer Rd location for better services!

There was hardly any meat on the ribs and there was a very unpleasant odor in the air. To me it Smelled like soured mop water . It could have been because the AC was dripping on the nasty carpet, or it could have been the mildew on the ceiling tiles around the AC vents. I'm giving one-star because the waitress was nice. However, I would never take a chance spending my money there again.

Wait was very long and they screwed up my order wont go back to that sonnys.

As usual I frequent Sonny a lot, not only is this not the first time but the second time, I ordered the 2 rib personal dinner with an extra corn bread not only was my cornbread EXTRA HARD but unedible. I was served a bunch of baby rib tips that were too hard to eat, Brunswick stew was awesome, My wife just looked at the review and SAUD honey this is your favorite place and it still is but the food needs to be served better.

Dana's a great server she's also my mom but I'm not biased

The menu was extremely small, the food came cold and they weren't even busy and the waitress was not very bright.

Still the best sonny's in town. Service and food portions are outstanding. Love the retro atmosphere

The original Sonny's BBQ and as always excellent service and the food outstanding but get there early it gets packed at lunchtime

All i can is wow! They ought to be ashamed of them selves. The meat portions were ridiculous, very small, absolutely no smoke or bbq flavor at all. Asked if the mac n cheese was made in house? Nope comes in a bag on a truck. So i ordered green beans, im sure they came from a can and no flavor. Also got broccoli it wasnt to bad. We had five that ate together and all was disappointed. The last couple places i had bbq were mom n pop places and were 100 times better. Had real meat in the greens homemade mac. I will probably never eat there again. Sonnys is sure not what they used to be.

Had a few people help us, (didn't have a server) so didn't have anyone when I needed to ask for something. Took forever to get our food. Not happy.

This place is such a rip off. Don't go there unless you just want to give your money away for nothing. Go to starke Sonny's and get more for your money. Gainesville Sonny's Sucks.

I frequent this location, close to home. Usually good, salad bar has room for improvement. Entree freshness and quality seem to improved lately. Servers hit and miss tho.

The family has eaten at this location a few times (it's not the closest to us) because they do fund raising for our daughter's HS band. That is an extra point for them!
Service has always been good and friendly. The food is good, basic BBQ. Nothing special but certainly good and a fair value.
Plenty of parking and we have not had to wait, even when coming at busy times.

I love the food at Sonny's! My only problem with this location is that the booths are too close together.

On a business trip, our host brought us here to try the original sonny's BBQ. Well original is best. The pulled pork was great nice and tender. If you are in the area. You need to stop in and try it!!

Open on new year day! Yum. Yes, I recommend this over all other bbq joints.

The Sonny's on Waldo is worth the drive no matter where in town you are. We strayed and went to the 39th location and I won't make that mistake again. It just wasn't the same. Good, but not great. Sonny's on Waldo? I can't get enough of those dry-rubbed ribs.

Love love love the food, the servers and the atmosphere. This is still my go to for BBQ.

Called from Hawthorne, wouldn t answer the phone until I was back in Gainesville 2 minutes away to be told there is a 30 minute wait, never again.

This location was the original Sonny's. Food was great and waitress very attentive with southern hospitality. Place needs some renovations but very clean. Definitely recommend.

Great Barbecue! I'll go out of my way to get a meal here next time I'm driving into Florida for a visit. Big fan of good NC Barbecue, and Sonny's delivered lean and tasty chicken and also pulled pork. And the whole sweet potatoe as a side was cooked well and enjoyed. Nice selection of say Ed on the table also. And a good sound track with Alman Brothers and Clearwater Revival playing. I'll be back.

Dirty silverware ordered 3sweet teas and 1 in sweet got 4 un sweet teas

We have been fans of Sonny's BBQ for over 45 years. Their BBQ is dependable. No matter which location you try, yoy know what you are going to get moist and flavorful BBQ. We love the pork. Their BBQ beans are to die for.

Great service, very impressed by our waiter. Food was standard Sonny's fare. Downfall is the bathrooms are horribly LOCATED in the restaurant, clean enough but need an update. No separation from people waiting for a seat and those of us @ the first table closest to the door. Very uncomfortable to have people waiting @ your back, door opening right at you, etc. Advice, loose a booth and add a partition.

The service was slow and the fries were extremely cold. It was carryout but I only live 2 minutes from there so fries shouldn't have been that cold by then.

My husband and I go to the Waldo Road Sonny's every Saturday because they have the best BBQ ever. They have 4 sauces to choose from. That way I get the sweet that I love and he gets the original he likes.
Our server Pam B is awesome. She sees us parking and she gets our table ready including drinks. She has NEVER failed us. Our order is always perfect and served with a smile.

I understand it was July 4th holiday ,and maybe things were a little hectic but to ignore us when the restaurant was not even crowded...then I guess he was the cook who brought out our baked beans just drops the beans on the table wasting half of them and just walks off, no " sorry can I get you a napkin " or nothing.Then there's my food ....the fat they trim off the beef brisket must have been what they made my sandwich with.So no I don't think we are coming back.

Loved today's service at Sonny's Waldo Rd Gainesville Fl. Come on down if you want some good eats and hospitality. Oh they have remodeled as well. It's nice and clean.

Good barbecue, Home style atmosphere. The staff for the most part it's friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. I love their baby back ribs and their appetizers. We can not forget about the garlic toast if you can order extra.

I think this salad bar is better than the one in Alachua.

Incredibly slow service, dirty plates left on tables, they brought us some else's appetizers, and when our food finally arrived it was lukewarm and ribs were dry. Not planning to return anytime soon.

Excellent !! This is THE Original Sonny's. You will not find better Southern BBQ anywhere! The servers are also excellent and very friendly!
