Thought I would add an update on this review - I have continued to use Solon, for repairs, advice and discussion about bikes. When I was trying to figure out a winter bike for commuting, I got great advice from the team who rides bikes - road, mountain, fat, skinny. I would recommend Solon to anyone looking for a partner in their riding habit. Any bicycle store open at 11 am on a Sunday has to understand bicyclists. Lots of stock on parts and bikes.

Dan from Solon Bicycle is authentic and amazing in his ability to offer a speedy turn over on any bicycle need. I have bought 2 high end bicycles at this shop in the last 5 years (one to race, the other to commute) and the prices were very reasonable. Dan and his team are always ready to help me with care and maintenance, or offer needed bicycle adjuncts.
He has saved me a ton of money and down time by telling me when a maintenance recommended by another shop wasn't needed, and getting me my wonderful bicycle back and ready to go the next day. The atmosphere of the shop is relaxed but professional and extremely efficient, if that is what you want.
This is the BEST BICYLE SHOP ON THE PLANET EARTH!

Drove an hour to drop my bike off for service to be told they aren't accepting any services for over a week

Every time I leave Solon Bicycle, Google asks me to leave a review for the store. I put it off for a long time because I felt that a short review couldn t come close to showing my appreciation for the store. Google is now allowing slightly longer reviews, so here s mine If you don t like reading lengthy reviews here s the short version, this is a great store with an expert staff and an owner who happens to be a champion BMX rider. Everything about the store s fair, but it s their expertise where the value comes from. Here s the extended version, I ve known this store for almost 16 years now when I bought my first bike. I knew absolutely nothing about bicycles and truthfully felt a little uncomfortable going to a professional like store versus a big box retailer where the extent of the help you re going to get is someone helping you take down and off the rack bike. In five minutes, I could tell that Dan Sirkin wasn t just interested in selling me a bicycle and accessories, this guy is genuinely a fanatic about bikes.

During our conversation, I found out that he s a pro BMX rider and had recently purchased the store. Dan didn t sell me the most expensive bike in the store or even try, he went out of his way to find exactly the bike that I would need to actually to enjoy using it and be a cyclist for life. If you don t like the feel or comfort of the bike you bought, you re not going to use it; therefore, Dan s logic makes perfect sense. Over the years, I have gone in there at least two or three times a year for odds and ends things, tune-ups on the bike (yes that s important), even in the world of Amazon when I could have products delivered to my door in two days or less. It s like I said above, it s not about price or product It s about the right that a knowledgeable person can help you find.

Years later, I went back to the store to consider another kind of bicycle because I was done riding on the streets. For the second time around, Dan showed me that I was not looking for a mountain bike this time I was looking for something called a hybrid. This bike allows you to safely ride on an asphalt path or crushed limestone like we have here on the lock system. I bought a Specialized Hybrid, it was the most fun on a bicycle I ve ever had. I went from riding 10 to 18 miles on a trip to a very comfortable 20 to 40 miles. The right bike, with the right seat, I had no soreness, and all of it is because I was using the right equipment. I ll wrap up this review to say all these years later, my wife and daughter ride with me on the towpath, and all the bikes were purchased from Dan at Solon Bicycle. Here s one more great example of the integrity of the people at store. My daughter is a lot taller than she was when she was 11 (now 14), so today, 6/23/2020, during this stupid Covid pandemic, I called Solon bike and not only are they open their store looks like a surgical operatory. Instead of offering to sell me a new bike for my daughter, he sold and installed a $45 part that will give us at least another year so out of the bike. That s the honesty that will keep me a client for life.

Very helpful, knew exactly what my bike needed, installed it for me, and even gave me tips to make my ride more efficient.

Because I bought my bike at Solon Cycle, I went there for one issue I had with my bike and ended up getting a few issues fixed. Dan, the owner is always accommodating even when slammed. Because my issues were all minor, Dan made adjustments without charge. Friendly staff....top service personal....A great reason to purchase your bike from here!

Outstanding work, reasonable price. They helped refurb my old 1994 bike with new shifters and brake lines. It works like a charm.

One of the finer bike shops I have been in. It's nice to shop in a bike shop where every employee has a true love for the sport. These guys are in the business for reasons other than the money, they love what they do. The folks at Solon Cycle are easy to deal with, answer questions in ways that are easy to understand, and have top notch sales, fitting, and maintenance services. I'll be back for sure!

Solon Bicycle is a breath of fresh air! From the moment I walked in the door, I was impressed by their quality of service, everything from the friendly and helpful atmosphere to the knowledgeable and honest advice that all of the employees are eager to offer, represents the standard of customer service that is so hard to find these days. They have patiently spent much time answering all of my questions concerning a bike that I am building; when Dan was unsure as to the specifics of a part in question, he said he would research the part and email me, and promptly, I had an answer.
I will happily be returning to Solon Bicycles for all of my bicycle parts, services, and advice for as long as their doors stay open and you can count on that!

Worker accused my son of being hit by a car and charged 2 times more than the bike was worth

This shop generously lent their mobile support vehicle to perform repairs for the Fuller Center Bike Adventure as we cycled through Aurora. What a treat to have them work out the kinks in our fleet, and get us rolling smoothly towards the coast.

You all went above and beyond helping our mission to cycle for affordable housing, and we certainly appreciated it!

I gave my first bike from the 70's to my son as his first bike. He rode it so much the back pedal brakes broke. I first took it to a shop in chagrin falls but after two weeks they still couldn't figure it out. I took it to Dan and it was fixed in a two days. This is an authentic bike shop with people who know their craft. Don't waste you're time with the other silver spoon suburban hobbyists.

My husband needed a new set of tires and tubes. He has a Specialized brand bicycle. After calling and being told they had a few of them he drove up to have them put on only to be told they don't have them and don't carry that brand anymore. Really??? You told him you did right before he drove an hour to your shop and an hour back!! I will NEVER recommend your business! You didn't even bother to listen on the one in the first place!

Fabulous bike store with very knowledgeable and friendly staff. They were very patient while we tried out a number of bikes, and finally settled on 2 specialized carbon fiber bikes. One was in stock, the other they got in within only a few days.
They did a fabulous job of setting up the bikes to fit us perfectly, including adjustments for us older but avid riders with some neck and back issues. They have also done excellent tuneups on our older bikes in the past.

I had an A+ experience starting from my phone call to ask about the hours and if we needed an appointment to bring our bike in. Matt told me to bring our bikes in and they would take care of it that day or the next day. I brought two bikes in and they took my name and number and said they should be done by tomorrow at the latest. Two hours later they texted me my bikes were complete. I brought another bike to get a kick stand and they put that on immediately along with a new seat! The service was exceptional! Everyone was very pleasant and helped any way they could. I would highly recommend Solon Bike shop for any bike needs! Thank you!!! My family is so happy we can all take a bike ride together

Got mine & my 6 year old daughters starter bike here over the summer & she loves it. They will definitely last. They were so helpful and so much better quality than big brand stores. Will be back for her next bike in a couple years

Knowledgable, professional and always smiling staff. Dan and Curtis took the time to speak on the phone and so I decided to drive in. Curtis helped me out in store. I'll say it's great to talk to people who give honest assessments. I'm new to road biking and the shop isn't trying to force "unnecessary" down my throat. They showed me bikes for exactly what I wanted to do and weren't pushy in the process. The parking lot allows for test riding and they don't hesitate to take a bike down and put platforms on just to let you try it. Great shop!! Stop in!

To the yoyo that gave a 1 star and said Dan is rude--you must be a real knucklehead to deal with.

Solon Bicycle is a terrible place. The owner Dan, is extremely rude and shouldnt even be running this shop. Everything is extremely over priced and a very very tiny selection. Go to a better bike shop, anything is better than Solon Bicycle. Tiny rinkydink shop and a jackass owner..Ill never go back!!!

Very informative, no pressure bike shop that guided us well in choosing our first "real" mountain bikes. Wide selection of Specialized and Jamis and willing to order anything that they don't have on hand.

My son's bike was stolen. Dan and Solon Bicycle, along with the Solon police, gifted him with a new one. I am now a customer for life!

It all starts with an interview session where he gathers information about the kind of riding you like to do and any existing medical problems you may have. Then, he uses that information, along with some pretty cool laser scanning equipment, to dial in the best possible fit.

In my case, I wanted a more aerodynamic position on my road bike, and I needed help eliminating knee pain while climbing hills or pedaling hard. After some precise measurements, Dan made several small adjustments to my seat, my bars and my cleats. The difference it made was undeniable. Smoother pedaling. Better handling. Stronger climbing. Less wind resistance. And I really appreciated the way Dan encouraged me to keep in touch if I noticed any new problems. My only regret? Not doing it sooner.

I just recently stopped in to check out the selection. I have always owned a bike from Wal-Mart or something similar. I realized you pay for what you get. Specialized bikes are amazing and it is apples to oranges if you want to become a serious rider. Yes prices seem high at first until you see what a real bicycle rides like. After comparing them to other places I realize they are very knowledgeable and have good pricing. I would recommend to anyone and I will be buying a new bike this spring

I stopped by this great shop countless times "just to ask more questions" as I pondered the purchase of a new bike. Every single time one of the staff would patiently answer - sometimes the same questions - and allow me to ride. I was never pressured to purchase. There are plenty of other bike shops around where I could have purchased but there was no place better to do so. The staff is amazing - friendly, knowledgeable and fun.

Today I walked out with my new bike. Thanks Brian and all for the great service. You know we'll be back!

Decent place. Service was Ok. Nothing special. This is a VERY expensive bike shop. I probably wont go back due to pricing.

We had the best experience yesterday. All of the employees were so kind and patient with my son who wanted to explain what was wrong with his bike. They had him ride it around in the parking lot so he felt comfortable with the fix. They installed a bottle holder for him and did not charge us for the repair. I will soon buy my own bike there. It made our night.

Dan and the entire staff at Solon Bike are truly amazing. My husband deals exclusively with Dan with his bike purchases which have been several. I recently decided to ride again and Dan worked with me to custom fit a bike that just worked out wonderfully!!! We can't say enough about the personal service they give!

Great place to purchase a bike or bring one in for maintenance/repairs

Since I moved to the area 14 years ago, I've been going to Solon Bicycle. I'm very comfortable with their knowledge and trust their integrity when I take my bike in for service, etc. The associates are truly there for you. I personally would go out of my way to have my bike serviced at Solon Bicycle if I had to move from the immediate area.

Friendly service and a good selection. I've been very happy with the bikes I've purchased there and have taken my other bikes in for service there several times.

Have purchased 4 bikes from Solon Bike over a 15 year period. Recently had a bike serviced there. New pads for the disk brakes new cables the works. Bike has never worked better. The disk brakes, quiet as a church mouse, no matter how hard I apply them. Gears shift smooth as a baby's backside. Tim is a genius.

Fantastic service at Solon Bike Shop! My 12 yr old son needed a part to secure his bike wheel. We tried to find one at hardware stores etc...We went into the shop and within minutes, they found what we needed. Curtis and Chris sent my son on his way without even charging him for the part. (He was thrilled because he was using his own money!) They were both genuinely interested in helping him and even told him to come back to have a safety check on his bike.....there are still good people out there!! Thank you!!!

There are certainly people who have had good experience with Solon Bike, but I am not one of them. If nothing else, that represents a lack of consistency.

I am not new to bikes, but I typically had bought used. For the first time ever, I bought a new bike, and I bought it from Solon Bicycle. It was a ~$1500 Salsa Vaya. Right off the bat, I was surprised that they didn't do any sort of fitting or bike checkout other than adjusting my seat height before sending me out the door. That should have been a red flag for me, but at that point I had never bought a bike new before so I didn't know that a fitting and mechanical checkout were standard procedures for most good shops.

Over the course of 7 days and only a couple dozen miles of riding, the bike had a laundry list of issues that can all be attributed to a poor attention to detail in assembly.

After multiple visits, they did eventually make the bike run the way it was supposed to. Unfortunately, instead of having a customer service attitude and recognizing the hassle of bringing a brand new bike back into the shop multiple times, the owner was very condescending and at times even threatening. At one point remarking via email "lets be careful about how you word things with me if you're looking for my help."

Based on my experience, I have actively steered anyone that I know looking for a bike shop to go to any of the other local bike shops. We are lucky to have tons of options for LBS in NE Ohio, and I would highly recommend taking your business elsewhere. There are some great shops just down the road in Chagrin, Bainbridge, and Cleveland Heights.

I just purchased my new BMC roadracer SL01 from Solon Bicycle! The bike is an absolute dream and I could not be happier. Additionally the staff were truly INCREDIBLE. I felt very comfortable working with them and they never once made me feel pressured to make a purchase. Also, they did a great job with the fitting process and were extremely knowledgable. Overall, they made the entire experience enjoyable and I would HIGHLY recommend this shop!!!

Love them! They care about bikes and customers. We went there to get our broken cannondale bike fork repaired during covid (March) . The replacement part was out of stock and they kept my bike stored in their shop for atleast a month trying to get the right part but it was out of stock. I picked up the bike in April. Went back to them with a part in May for replacement which I purchased on eBay. That was the wrong part. Went again in July and again the cannon dale dealer had shipped the wrong part to me. Finally in September they got me the correct fork. With patience and excellence they serviced my bike and didn t charge me anything additional but their first quote. Kudos to such awesome customer service. They even cut out the seat rod to make it smaller for free. How can anyone go anywhere else when we have such a great bike shop right here in our hometown Solon. Amazing!

A got my bike on the internet and tried to assemble it myself (almost successfully) decided to check with real professionals. People at Solon Bicycle were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, helped me with adjustments, the pricing is very reasonable, will sure come there again with any questions I may have about bikes. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!
