Really enjoyed the hotel. Service wonderful, especially the concierge. Two negatives: drinks in the bar were extremely overpriced; 2) our room was prepaid but the hotel still put a charge on our credit card for the cost of the room plus $100 per day "estimated" extras. This made check out veery confusing. I've never had a hotel put estimated extras on a charge card and then credit it back.

Cosy and sweet. The room size is better than other London hotels and the rate is expensive especially in sessions. They have a nice lounge with a lot of antique suitable for important meetings

My family had a wonderful stay at Sofitel London St. James! All the staff are extremely nice and helpful, didn't have any problems at all, most of the areas exceeded our expections! The location can't be beaten, in the very center of London, walking distance to Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palance, Covent Garden, Soho, Trafalgar Square, etc., shopping, eating, entertainments, you can find everything you want! Will definitely stay here again during our future trips to London!!!

My wife and I stayed at the Sofitel London St. James for our tenth wedding anniversary and we could not have been more pleased with the quality of the rooms, the consideration of the staff, and the expertise in every aspect from breakfast preparation to cocktails.

Staff seemed genuinely interested in our experience, and many would remember us after a single visit. It was very comforting to call the hotel home during our trip overseas.

Great location and very good service.
The rooms are very comfortable and quiet. The bar/restaurant is very nicely decorated and serves a very good high tea.
You can also explore the spirits, as some very good rhums, whiskeys and more are available. Prices are adapted to the reality of a 5* in london

I think everyone at the hotel worked very hard and tried to do their best. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The food and bar was wonderful, and the reception staff were very very nice. I felt everyone went out of their way to make our stay special. The location is great and the hotel is beautiful. Thank you for everything.

My husband and I stayed with Sofitel on our recent trip to London for his 30th birthday. While there, my husband became very ill and we were surprised at the level of care and true concern from all of the staff for his well being and comfort. From the security officer who came to check on him immediately, to the staff who brought up medication we were expecting to have to go out and purchase, they made his sick birthday a great birthday. We absolutely loved Amalie at the front desk who remembered checking us in, and offered her condolences on my husband's birthday experience, and also genuine excitement and wishes for the remainder of our trip. She really made us feel welcome and part of the family.

We went to the day spa. It was comfortable and spacious. The staff were attentive and amicable. We had a couple massage and afternoon tea. The massage was lovely, the therapists were attentive to oyr individual requitements. The room was ambient in temperature, relaxing and the music was set at a good level. Tea was served promptly after we finished, with a good range of sandwishes and pastries and fresh, warm scones.

From driving up and the dropping the keys with the Bellman to the reverse process in the morning a truly seamless and blissful stay. From a light lunch in the bar, a afternoon snooze to a full on dinner with our son and daughter in law, simply the best. Being a Platinum member helped I guess. No request was too hard. Super people and a nice touch at check in with a glass or two of a fruit cocktail

Arrival was not the best, concierge were not on po...

Arrival was not the best, concierge were not on point. (Busy laughing and chatting amongst themselves while i waited in my limo). Carried my 3 bags in from my limo as they were too occupied chatting, so when they eventually did ask if i needed help, i was rather abrupt in my response (which i cannot repeat here). Check in was good, but when i got to my room, it was clearly not what i paid for. I booked a Luxury King Room, it was neither. Bed was a queen, the mattress was old and creaky, the phone didn't work and the sofa was hard as a rock as it was a sofa bed. When i spoke to reception (i had to go down to the lobby as the phone wasn't working), i asked if i was in the correct room, they said yes. I asked them about the bed being a queen and not a king, and they said "a King room doesn't mean a king bed"...(um, yes it does, and it says so on the hotels own website). Long story short, i was room moved around 11pm to a wheelchair accessible room that night which had a king bed.

I received a call from the General Manager the next morning, who was genuinely concerned about the events of the previous night. He offered to move me again to a suite for the last night of my 2 night stay, which i accepted. I packed my bags and went out for amazing steak lunch with a friend (great recommendation by the hotel concierge). My bags were moved to the suite whilst i was at lunch and i collected my new room keys at reception on my return.

The suite was magnificent..! It was the "Lord Lawrence Olivier Suite" and it was the most amazing suite i have ever stayed in. The GM also sent a bottle of Champagne and a large fruit tray with compliments of the hotel. I know mistakes are made, we are all human, i guess it was my turn to have a few mistakes all happen at the same time. But what really impresses me is how mistakes are rectified. Sofitel did this perfectly. What was looking like a terrible end to my 4 weeks holiday in Europe, turned into one of the highlights of the trip. I would definitely give Sofitel London St James another "go" as their efforts to make amends and to impress was exemplary. (The in-room dining is superb, i only had a club sandwich, but it was a delicious work of art). Checkout was fast and charming, and the farewell felt genuine. I look forward to my return.

When I come to London I like to see a musical in Picadily and stay for the night. This hotel is perfect for a London break, with a good price and quality. The concierge can reserve tickets with good seats for you and if you have a favorite guest card you can keep the room later.

The So Magnifique spa and afternoon tea at the Sofitel is wonderful. Had private use of the steam room and jacuzzi followed by one hour of treatment. Totally relaxing, staff were very attentive, and the massage treatment amazing. It certainly helped with my aching shoulder and neck. We finished off the day with delicious cocktails at The St James Bar in the hotel, which were divine.

The rose lounge was beautifully decorated and lovely high tea service. The place wasn't suited to those who are disabled as the sofas are rather low seated. There are higher chairs but vastly smaller tables, not conducive for high tea for 3 people

I tried Sofitel Rose room for the afternoon tea. I liked it so much that I returned back again. The place has amazing charm, with live harpist, nice English rose decorations in the room. It is small enough to create a private experience of the true english afternoon tea. Tea, scones and cakes are delicious and once I am planning to return again.

A truly wonderful stay, from the moment we arrived. We were greeted warmly, and carefully checked in (the juice at reception was perfect after the long flight from Seattle!).
Our room (222) was very nice, with the hallway layout offering privacy and a greater sense of space. the bed was a bit softer than our own, but was comfy.
There was a bit of cranky fan noise from the AC (we mentioned it), but otherwise the amenities were wonderful. The evening treat was welcome...and the variety amazing (during out 8 nights!)
Must commend the staff. They were exceptional to a person...each having the perfect balance of attentiveness without being overwhelming. Each greeted us with a smile and kind bonjour!

I only came for a training session - beautiful venue so the company obviously had some money. They also served breakfast on site which was lovely. No idea what a stay would be like but I'm guessing it would be a case of on expense spared. Only giving 4 as I can't recommend a stay.

My children and I had a very comfortable stay at the beautifully decorated Sofitel St-James' hotel. Daniel at the concierge desk was wonderful in finding us Harry Potter tickets and Remy, Marine and Linda also made us very welcome. Every other member of staff at the hotel was so accomodating, friendly and professional. We will be returning in the not too distant future. Thank you once again for a memorable stay.

I went to the St James Bar which is very relaxing place. The bar has a 1920's 'Coco Chanel' feel and the restaurant's white walls and double height ceilings make the room bright and airy. Fine refined French and British drinks and canapes. I can't wait to go back.

Where do I start apart from saying......WOW what a superb stay!!!!!

We have just returned from a two night stay at the hotel, this is our second visit to the hotel and already cant wait to go again.

The hotel itself has a very relaxing feeling about it, the rooms are also beautiful and kept to a very high standard.

What also makes this hotel stand out from every other hotel are the staff !!!! They are all outstanding in every way, i don't think i can actually quite put into words how amazing the staff are.

From the moment you arrive the door staff are so friendly and couldn t be more helpful, as we left today one of them had a joke with me which just rounded off a perfect stay.

I had a meal out in London which I didn t over enjoy so my partner explained this when we returned to the hotel bar as I wanted to order food there, I believe his name is Koster then took amazing care of us and made myself and my partner feel so very special - giving outstanding customer service and making me forget about my bad meal I had away from the hotel which he so didn t have to do.

We also used the spa facilities during our stay which again was superb from start to finish, lovely treatments and very friendly staff who couldn t have made us feel anymore welcome if they had of tried.

We will be returning again without fail very soon !!

Thank you to everyone at the Sofitel your doing a truly outstanding job !!!!

Favorite hotel in London. Location is excellent, the rooms are fabulously appointed and the staff are fantastic. We stayed here for a mini break after our wedding and we felt so well cared for. The bar has a superb cocktail selection and the breakfast was wonderful. Beautiful grand building but the hotel is small enough to still deliver that personal touch.

Another 5 star property set in a historic building right at central London. The place exudes old world charm, though internal space is not as well proportioned as modern day hotels. However, that is well compensated by smaller more private options as you move from the central lobby into the cafe and private rooms. The reception area is nice, the concierge is friendly and the hotel is busy. Really busy.

This was a return visit after more than a decade. I think it's improved beyond compare. The staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. The towel and bottle of water (and energy bar) on returning to the hotel after a jog in the morning was a classy touch! (My son (10) pointed out that a cold/wet towel and iced water would have made this out-of-this-world!)

A great hotel in London with amazing service. The beds are some of the best i have tried in all my years traveling. I had a small issue upon check in, but the duty manager was very apologetic and very quick to make me very happy. This is what a 5 star hotel should be about. Definitely recommend!

My esperience at Sofitel London St. James was excellent.
Wonderful and pleasant architecture. Very comfortable in a very central position but stil very quiet.
Excellent service and personnel always up to every request, they strive to satisfy your needs.
I have two positive notes to make:
1) I requested a room with view, but because I arrived early, they upgraded my room to junior suite.
2) Both my wife and myself are allergic to gluten and diary products. We've been very positively surprised by the efforts they made to satisfy our request. One evening, the pastry chef made two excellent treats for us, just on the spot!
I strongly recommend this hotel. You can hardly make a better choice.

Wow I have been fortunate in my life, today I spent my time at the Sofitel St James and what a place this is.
My visit was for a seminar, more on that later. I didn't get the chance to stay the night in this spectacular hotel, I was just a guest but even so I was treated like royalty, you know that feeling you get when hotel staff treat you with so much care and attention you feel a little embarrassed, this was one of those times. The food here was out of this world delicious, I mean the chef is a magician. If you are visiting London and really want to spoil yourselves book into the Sofitel At James you won't be disappointed.

This review is specifically about the "Spa & Afternoon Tea" package I experienced last month. I will start by saying that I have never been to a spa before; the spa treatment (full body massage) from start to finish was excellent. The customer service was amazing and I felt very comfortable. So why have I only given The Sofitel 2 stars? The afternoon tea was majorly disappointing. The food itself was okay, however my guest and I had to share the desserts (meaning we had to cut them in half so we could sample the same dessert). The location of the Afternoon Tea was UNACCEPTABLE, we were seated at a table in the middle of the spa reception area, near the pedicure station. So we ate our food while experiencing the sights and sounds of toe nails being clipped, filed and buffed. Upon leaving the spa area we realised that a few feet away (pun intended) there was a beautiful room with a harpist and guests were enjoying a spectacular afternoon tea. Now I was offended because we were unnecessarily subjected to that awful experience.

As always - the service , cleanliness to the room was outstanding. The room we had was great, have preferred previous rooms but it was very good. cleaning and turndown service first class. The staff in all areas are polite helpful and pay full attention to every detail.
As my last survey - the bar is great but way too expensive !!!

Many thanks

There are two points t hat I would like to make:

1. I stayed in room 611. The bed is appalling - two beds pushed together with an inadequate base and mattresses that are overused (old), of poor general quality and totally orthopedically unsuitable. Add inordinately thick and inconsistently filled pillow tops to disguise the poor mattress and it is chiropractor's dream come true. I do have a chronic back issue and it was exacerbated by this atrocious bed.

2. On the positive side and the reason that I have scored 'satisfied' is the staff who are friendly and efficient. I would like to highlight the restaurant staff for breakfast. They are wonderful. Two lady staff members, in particular, provided exceptional service and helped make me more comfortable given my back issue. See point 1. I failed to secure their names and am disappointed in myself for that.

The receptionists were happy and enthusiastic, even sent a cake to our room for my sister's 50th birthday. Housekeeping attentive to our needs and reservations very kindly gave us a late check out as we await for our afternoon departure. Our deluxe room however didn't have a beautiful view. We were offered to change but we were settled already.

Was very average compared to the other hotels I st...

Was very average compared to the other hotels I stayed in during my trip around Europe. The price compared to what you actually get leaves a lot to be desired - the suite we booked looked directly out onto a brick wall, the shower was impossible to work, mini bar and room service was a rip-off, and the tea and milk were never restocked by housekeeping. The staff however were lovely and it s in a great location, but I definitely won t be recommending the Sofitel to anyone!

ADDIT:
Dear Mr. Pesty,

I urge you to please visit room 330 and admire the view from the window - that will clear up the confusion.

If you were genuinely thankful that I took the time to tell you about my experience (which I highly doubt - given other guests have complained about being unaware of the brick wall outside their window online when booking their rooms, & have been given the same arrogant, dissmisive response), you would ensure that guests are informed/offered lower prices for rooms with a brick wall view. I would also urge you to inform housekeeping that (given guests are advertised & are paying for a luxury experience at your hotel), that they know to restock the rooms accordingly, and hire a handyman to fix the showers (again - not the only guest to complain about this online).

I would definitely urge you to undertake some quality improvement initiatives at your hotel, given the competitiveness of the hotel business in London.

Warmest regards,
Brooke G.

Our stay at Sofitel st James was the best one we ever had! Warm welcome, big comfortable clean rooms, delicious food, kind happy smiles every morning at the breakfast room. The location is also great because the hotel is exactly in the centre of London. You can go everywhere so easily since public transportation is next to the door. This hotel gave us a lot of memories! What is the secret for the success? We have the answer! Your passion for what you do there! Sofitel St James team a great thank you for the memorable hospitality! I have stayed here at December last year. I m not impress to see Room Service pizza in folded box. It's feel like I'm ordering Domino's, Papa John's and Pizza Hut. Probably under 5* hotel standard. However, I m enjoy large TV in my room for watching football or NFL. More than 100 TV channels available.
Don't miss the amenities from Hermes. It's must try when you stay with Sofitel. Thank you for the warm welcome and service from the guest relation team. This hotel very close to Piccadilly Circus. Many restaurants and shopping surround here.

We had a wonderful time, first at The Balcon Restaurant within the hotel, where the staff were absolutely AMAZING. Our breakfast was breathtaking, and left us SO full, we had to take half away!

Then the SPA was EVERYTHING I could've hoped for. My Mum loved every second of her treatment with the lovely Suzannah. She got the choice of champagne or a lychee martini with her manicure, of which she enjoyed the latter profusely! It was a day of firsts for her. First jacuzzi, first Balian massage, first facial...it was a wonderful experience! We'll have to repeat, maybe once a year.

It was a leisure trip changed into a business trip, hence started with little dis-organisation. The welcome at the hotel was great and Elsa went out of her way to accommodate our needs. Remy immediately made friends with our three-year-old daughter and advised us about the great history of the old Bank which now houses a great facility.
The hotel is in a perfect spot in London, the facilities are astonishing, but the service would be the thing that I'll remember and will take me back the next time we go to London.
