Make sure your order is your order, I thought I was getting the wrong order and I tried to speak up but the person at the register reassured me saying "I know what I'm doing" and then I get home and get a call that it was the wrong order... It was okay, not what I wanted but still good. It's just the service that bothers me, a double check could've been all it took, I didn't mean any disrespect to the worker, it just wasn't my order

It seems the food quality has gone downhill from when many of the excellent reviews were posted. I had also hoped for better since the restaurant is still labeled as one of the "hidden gems of Durham". Sadly, of the buffet menu items tried today the Chicken Tandoori was the only decent offering. The rest of the food seemed overly commercialized, being oily and salty. I guess I should not expect more.

Amazing Indian buffet and great regular dining and take out. Our new favorite Indian restaurant. The prices are reasonable and selection is great. Good vegan and vegetarian options. The restaurant also has nice murals, near perfect health code rating, is clean and well maintained and live Sitar playing on Fri and Sat nights. What more could one need?

I had ordered a mix veg platter and kadhai paneer for takeout. The mix veg platter was okay, but the aloo bonda in the platter was LITERALLY rubber, and uneatable. The kadhai panner looked and tasted more like chili paneer, and had huge pieces of garlic which made it taste absolutely terrible. The naan was so thick that it tasted like raw dough. This has got to be one of the worst Indian restaurant I've eaten at in the US. Stay away, there are so many food Indian places in the Triangle that deserve your patronage than this disgusting excuse for a restaurant.

Good only when you don't have any other option.

He is trying to make people fool. e.g. I have not seen Potato in "Saag - Paneer" ever, may be he want to save money by putting Potato instead of Paneer.

Racist? Not only was i not greeted, while 3 other white visitors were, I also had the pleasure of having my food slammed on a table in front of me with no apology after waiting 45 minutes for a call ahead order. If you dislike African Americans for whatever reason just say it!

This was my first time here and I couldn't have had a better experience. I love Indian Cuisine. One of the men on the staff came over and walked me through the buffet and explained all of the dishes and recommended dishes to try. The waitress and other staff members were also fantastic at customer service. This place felt like more of a family welcoming you into their home, than just another typical buffet. I tried one of everything and all were well prepared, fresh, and delicious. I wish I didn't live out of state so I could come here more often!

The interior was beautiful and the staff were very courteous, however the food in the dinner buffet was terrible. The rice grains were very hard, clearly indicating that it got dried out and was reheated. Even the other dishes weren't any good.

The Sunday buffet has a variety of offerings and all are delicious. Not a lot to choose from if you are vegan or vegetarian, though. They label everything so if you have food allergies you know what you can eat. The service is fast and friendly. We love this place.

Went here for the first time for dinner and will definitely be going back. While there was a full buffet, we decided to order off of the menu. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Great atmosphere, too! Upscale finish and generally quiet makes perfect place for a date. Also, real sitar playing on Saturday nights!

Service: 4/5. The hostess/waitress/bus girl/food prep woman was all over the place. As a result, she came off as curt and hurried. Come time for the bill, she tosses it on our table without even looking at us and says "Pay whenever you're ready" before tearing off again. We literally had had ONE PLATE when the bill came.

Price: 4/5. $38 for two all-you-can-eat dinners with only waters to drink. You're looking at around $18 bucks per person! Yeeesh! Way too expensive!

Cleanliness: 5/5. This place was incredibly clean! Cloth tables and napkins. Silverware spotless. Super clean buffet bar and bathrooms.

Quality: 5/5. The food here is incredible. I have never tasted such an incredible myriad of flavors and spices. The Lamb Ghosts was my favorite. Spicy and perfect. So many different powders to add for spice. I didn't feel like tampering with an already perfect product. I will definitely be back.

Great and authentic Indian cuisine. On weekends a buffet will be served and the restaurant even include deserts and fruits included with the buffet price which is something really worth it.
I would certainly come back to dine at the restaurant. Highly recommend it if you like spicy Indian food.

I was so disappointed with this place. I'd seen so many good reviews but I'm not sure why. We went for the Friday dinner buffet. It was overpriced ($15/person if I remember correctly) and the selection was tiny.

I have been to several other Indian buffets in the past and have always liked them. This one was nearly all overly spicy foods and mostly chicken dishes. I would have thought that for the price they'd have at least one lamb dish. The naan bread was also the worst I've ever had. Dry and flavorless and completely lacking the traditional chewiness. I thought maybe it had just been out too long but the fresh version they put out wasn't much better.

The service was not very good either. Our waitress was not speedy at clearing our plates, never refilled our drinks, and we had to hunt her down for the check.

The only impressive thing I tried was a mango mousse dessert that was very good.

My wife Victoria, and stepson Sebastian, stopped here on our way back to Florida, after getting married in Virginia a few days ago.

I love their interiors.
Very artistic paintings, a catchy name, and beautiful background sitar music.

They even had a buffet open at night, which was a pleasant surprise, and a first for me.

In all honesty, having lived in India for 23 years and having traveled all over, I found their food and flavour to be not outstanding, but good.

Nothing seriously wrong with it.
It's just that as far as other veg. options in North Carolina go, and also taking into account pricing, and other Indian restraunts in the US I've eaten at, I found Sitar to be a restraunt with exceptional interiors, with above average veg. food.

Even after reading all negative reviews, i ended up here due to travel time and realized reviewers were very much right. Had ordered tandori grill to take away - Worst Ever, it was filled with onions and only chicken pieces.
Chicken seemed like it was left over. Tasted hardly a piece and threw it over .
I am still trying to figure out how and who gave them good reviews, had no choice or wouldn't have been to this restaurant.

WORST FOOD, PLEASE DON'T GO TO THIS RESTAURANT

Outstanding lunch buffet. Numerous meat and veg options. Outstanding Kheer, Masala, Saag, and fresh chutney. My only (small) quibble is that I'd like Idli with the Sambar, but the Medu Vada was a good substitute.

Tasteless and unpleasant. Service needs work. They did manage to serve up a decent Kheer. The Paneer with yogurt sauce had no flavor whatsoever. Vegetable Samosas were served with no sauces; bone dry.

I really like Sitar. I like the veggie dishes. I like the curries. I like the tandoori dishes. I tend to like spicy foods, but some friends don't and you can get either. I think the vegetable pakoras are wonderful. I am not a huge fan of Indian desserts though. I walk away from the last trip to the buffet line knowing I will be stuffed.

One time we tried this place and they had a wonderful very spicy buffet, very expensive but decent food. This time we had to eat flavorless Indian food, even after we did not ask for mild. Also an opinionated waitress insisted in changing our original choice for the children, which resulted in overpriced chicken fajitas. This place was still expensive this time, the rice was over cooked and they charge for naan. I guess I'm used to better Indian restaurants by RTP.

As a general rule I would only recommend Indian if they serve buffet. Otherwise it's always a surprise, and generally not a good surprise.

2 starts mainly for their good selection of appetizers and desserts - otherwise I would've given a one star.

Overall - a very underwhelming Indian restaurant.
First the good - the restaurant is quite large, good ambiance, very clean (from the outside), fast service.
Next their choice of appetizers was pretty good - Idly, Dosa and medhu vada and they all tasted as close to authentic south Indian taste as you are going to get in these type of multi cuisine Indian restaurants. And their desserts was very good - gulab jamum and rice pudding - both tasted good. It is so easy for these restaurants to mess up gulab jamun.

Now comes the reason for only 2 stars. Since I am a vegetarian my focus is on the veg selection and taste. The choices were pretty bad - chole, some sort of mixed vegetable Curry and a most horrible tasting cabbage curry, and a improperly cooked sag paneer - none of which blends together in a single serving. The food appeared to have been cooked by someone unfamiliar with Indian cooking and just prepared by reading a book and trying to cook Indian food for the first time. And what's up with the cabbage - it was watery, soggy, mostly raw with absolutely no resemblance of any Indian dish that I have ever known or eaten. At least the chole was edible.

In summary, a most underwhelming Indian restaurant. The only saving grace was their appetizers and clean bathrooms.

Find a better place to eat than Sitar restaurant.
